Six kilometers of covered arcades shelter shops and cafés along the medieval lanes, the old Zytglogge clock has chimed since the Middle Ages, and brown bears roam a riverside park below the cathedral terrace. Swimmers float down the swift, clear Aare through the middle of town each summer.
