Pros: The staff members were very helpful. The breakfast was very good, but not excellent for the price. I had stayed at another Holiday Inn in Beijing where the breakfast was excellent. The management may consider to visit the H. I. Haidian hotel. The location is geographically good between the city center and the northern part of the city where the Olympic village and academic institutions are located. It was reasonably easy to find taxi. The weakness is the lack of nearby subway station.

Pros: We enjoy our choice of the hotel in Beijing. Holiday Inn Deshengmen Hotel offers all facilities which are necessary for a comfortable living: spacious light rooms, free toiletries, bathrobe, slippers, electric kettle, etc. All staff members are very friendly. This hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from Jishuitan subway station (line 2) in a quiet district. There is a restaurant and bar on the first floor of the hotel where you can have a lunch and dinner or just have a drink.

Cons: Be ready to pay deposit about 1000 yuan in the time of check-in. This information is not indicated in booking confirmation and hotel description.

Pros: It has a reasonably central location. The breakfast is decent but not spectacular but get in early because if you are late (after 9) they stop replenishing it. Do Not order room service - I ordered a BLT one night and it cost more then the room night cost.

Cons: The room was over 30 degrees. I talked to the front desk and informed them that the room was u comfortably warm and they did nothing. I had another day booked but cancelled to stay in another hotel.

Pros: Good location, centrally located with good highway access if you have lots of driving to do on your trip. The breakfast restaurant is decent but quantities were poor later in the morning.

Cons: Room was as hot as the 7th circle of hell. I was worried about spontaneous combustion. When I got into the room it was 32 degrees. Pretty far from room temperature. The hallway was pleasant but the room was so hot. Even with the heat off, it was still crazy hot. Management were informed but the situation didn't change so I cancelled and moved to the Hilton which was much better.

Pros: Very nice place, great location, very nice and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Clean rooms. Quite street, good public transportation, restaurants and shops near by.

Cons: Two visits, two different rooms. One of them nice bench to put some stuff on, but no closet / chest, just one small bedside cupboard, so we used the luggage as closet. The other room two small useful bedside cupboard, and small very useful chest.

Cons: Bed was not made. One night as we came back, towels that were hung nicely were wet. Noisy on the main floor and ventilation from kitchen (oily smell) didn't go over well. Sewer gas and strong cigarette smell comes in from outside or other rooms.

Pros: The hotel was off the main street walking about 5-7 minutes walking from where the taxi dropped us off. A little trouble when traveling with kids and getting there after dark. The neighborhood felt safe though. The taxi from the airport was 130 cny but we paid 260 cny for 5 people + 10 for a toll (about $40). Our guide for the next morning found it and picked us up at the door. Subway is very close but we were tired to navigate after 12 hr flight. Breakfast starts at 7am but they were fine to take orders a little earlier. It was basic with eggs, toast and bacon & sausage. Rainfall shower - classic Chinese firm beds. We slept well. The hotel was quite perfect for a bit of culture that I wanted my grandchildren, ages 9-14, to see on a layover in Beijing.

Cons: Location was not that close to Forbidden City. Name implies it is.

Pros: The property is soooo beautiful. The restaurante on the 3rd floor (i believe) is very beautiful and delicious. The room was fairly spacious for 2 people and 4 suitcases. It was clean and comfortable. The front desk ladies were very helpful. Around the hotel there were many places to visit and many restaurants. Tiananmen Square is only 20 min away, walking. The hotel exceeded my expectations that I had by looking the photos.

Cons: - I know is not the hotel's fault, but be mindful that the main road is under construction and they work until late. my room was facing the road... but since i have a heavy sleep, it was not that big of a problem. - I needed to get a flight from Daxing Airport to my next destination. I asked the concierge guy to confirm if he informed my taxi driver that I was going to Daxing Airport (because the taxi drivers do not speak English), he said "yes". 10 min later I noticed that I was going to another airport (I was following the direction with google maps). It was a mess to explain to the driver that he was suppose to go to an airport 1 hours away.... but thank God for Google translate. LOL. Summarizing, triple check if the concierge provided the correct the information to your taxi driver.

Cons: The girl who do massage for my husband asked for his WeChat and phone number , this is not appropriate and acceptable behavior from the staff .

Pros: The location was good.

Cons: Room was dark, facing a construction site, not particularly comfortable or clean. Reception barely spoke English. I wouldn't recommend this place if you are a foreign visitor who doesn't speak Mandarin.

Pros: The location was fantastic right on Wangfujing street. The hotel has a large open area like Venetian hotel in Las Vegas but smaller with Buffet restaurant. The cleaning lady was waiting for us to leave to meticulously clean our room.

Cons: The Internet very slow and could not check my emails. It may be the government’s restriction to access foreign websites. The room was small. If I were the owner, I would get rid of the bathtub to make the room bigger.

Pros: Bed was exceptionally comfortable and I had an amazing sleep. Buffet dinner and breakfast was great with a great selection. Location is fantastic.

Cons: It was very hot in the room, with no way to cool it down. I understand that it is winter, but it was a little too hot to be comfortable.

Pros: The location is great, conveniently close to malls. The hotel is right next to a church, which leads one to think about the cultural and historical aspects of this city.

Pros: The hotel is hidden in a small back street (hutong) very close to the houhai lake. The hotel is modern, small and well designed, nicely decorated. I was lucky to get one of the big rooms which opens on the theatre in the inner court. Hot water arrived immediately for the shower. Bathrobes are provided, a nice solid soap, hair dryer. Breakfast was very good. The bed was very comfortable, the room was cozy and pleasant. Not all rooms are that big however and only a few have a nice view on the inner court. The shadow art performance was fine but a bit too short! Very interesting though, it could have lasted twice as long!!

Cons: They lack big mugs for tea, only coffee cups. The tea bags are low quality, in the country which invented tea, it is a pity. They change towels and even hardly used shampoo bottles every day which is a terrible waste. They should wait for the bottles to be emptied and the towels should be changed only upon request (who changes towels at home every day ? It is incredible that people should like to have them changed because they are in a hotel!)

Pros: Breakfast was great, a mix of Western and Chinese. Complimentary shadow art performance on certain evenings.

Pros: convenient location (close to 2 subway stations - 10 min walk) Nice interior design in the lobby. We arrived very early in the morning and they offered us complimentary breakfast and tried to give us our rooms as soon as possible. Much appreciated.

Cons: There was no view from the window. Small bathroom. The room was not cleaned daily; They only made the beds and refresh the amenities. They did not clean the floor or change the towels. Only 1-2 persons were speaking English. We booked through the reception a tour to Great Wall (with an English Speaking guide), however we hardy understood the English that she was speaking, and she only gave us some useless information (like where the toilets will be and which cities to visit in China!) in the bus (about 10 minutes talk) while in Chinese she was talking for about an hour!!!! Also at the end of the tour, they did not drop us off at the hotel, but close to a metro station (we were walking for 45 minutes to find the station!!!)

Pros: Lovely example of a classic courtyard hotel. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds. As a bonus the free shadow puppet show is interesting. The area that the hotel is in may seem a little daunting to those who have not spent much time in traditional Beijing before but it feels extremely safe and is fine once you get used to it.

Cons: Very little to complain about, the shower door didn't fit quite right so the bathroom floor got a bit wet.

Pros: The breakfast was awesome. The staffs and the facilities are good too. I enjoyed the food very much.

Pros: Breakfast with good coffee, bacon and eggs, and toast and yoghurt suited me. Not much choice if one was wanting Chinese breakfast. Staff kindly advised when breakfast service was finishing and they did restock items as they ran out. The hutong area has a nice vibe, but navigating the journey from the subway was not straightforward. It is only 10 mins walk from the subway so we didn't need a taxi, so that is not really a problem unless you have a lot of luggage. If you have GPS you will be fine. The reception is always attended so no worry about not being able to get in upon arrival, as with some B&B establishments. The shadow puppets were enjoyable, and memorable. Credit to the staff for being multi talented.

Cons: The hotel needs some capital expenditure on it. The beds in our first room were absolutely worn out - springs protruding - so that was two nights bad sleep. The second room's window would not close and staff said that they knew it was off the hinges at the top. This caused a cold draught on my head during the three November nights we were in this room. The downstairs carpet was originally of high quality but needs to be removed as it is now food and drink stained, as it is unsuitable for where people come in off the streets and where people dine. There are no chairs in the rooms, and no fridges. The staff kindly let me store our water in their fridge. The bathroom lighting is so poor one cannot put makeup on. There are no power points beside the bed. In the first room there was a bedside lamp but no working power point to make it go. One couldn't use the TV powerpoint because the TV was wired in. We had to make do with just one power point in the bedroom and one in the bathroom, which is inadequate in these times of mobile phones etc. The hotel owner is lucky to have such obliging reception staff and manager, as their attitude went a long way to making our stay pleasant even though the facilities were poor. The bedmaking was merely superficial, in that the duvet was straightened out but the under sheet and mattress protector were not. One had to make one's own bed in effect. The housekeeping staff were pleasant. China's hotel star rating system is a mystery. If this establishment was rated two star it would be good. But it is rated four star so disappointment is a given. There is no lift for instance. Maybe the high rating is becasuse they offer all meals and plenty of reception service hours??

Pros: The area is very residential and you see how Beijing people go about their daily lives. It is close to good eating areas and some beautiful parks and waterways.

Pros: Comfortable, Western-style beds, clean and functioning Western-style bathrooms (where the entire bathroom does NOT convert into a shower), and close proximity to central Beijing, subways, and general walkability were our priorities. This hotel hit them all, and also managed to be a great value compared to hotels. I'd say the amenities were on par with maybe the top 1/4 tier of Western chain hotels, but the price was that of a middle tier Chinese hotel. The friendly and helpful staff (many of whom speak English) and cultural aspect was a bonus as well.

Cons: The rooms are on the smaller side; they definitely fall under the "boutique" category, but the bed and bathrooms were all very large and comfortable, so we didn't mind the lack of "common" space. You're not able to control the air conditioning, but we found the temperature comfortable. Bear in mind that, as an energy saving measure, you need a hotel key card to turn the power on in the room, so you can't, for instance, leave something charging all day while you're out.
