Cons: Our first room didn't have working AC. They moved us the second night, but overall, I found that to be non-negotiable. They didn't really remediate the situation aside from moving us the second night. The AC in the gym also wasn't really working. So the gym was....pleasantly warm (to say the least). I also found it to be a bit steep at $500+ a night for when we were staying there.....

Cons: The reception is not organized, we asked for an airport pick up a couple of days before arrival and gave them all the details through phone because no one answered our email , i called to confirm the pick up on the day of the arrival and apparently they never booked anything but they found a car and sent it to us on time. The second time , i gave them personally the information for a second airport pick up and when i called the day of the pick up to confirm, they said they didnt book anything AND they hv no car available for pick up !!! The beach gets really noisy at night . For this price i would rather go to Melia Hotel for better service and beach !

Pros: Really loved our stay with Kisiwa. Location was excellent, we walked all around Stone Town from the hotel, everything is on its doorstep. It is on a great little street for shops and restaurants too! Staff were very friendly and even kept our bags while we explored the city after returning from another hotel in the South-East of the Island later in the trip. This was above and beyond and we were very grateful! Breakfast was incredible. The variety of food along friendliness of the staff was exemplary. We thoroughly enjoyed this every morning. Rooms and facilities - Again another amazing feature of this hotel. The room was spacious with a deluxe bathroom including a bath! The bed was very comfortable and the cleanliness was impeccable. All in all a faultless stay! Highly recommended by us!

It strikes me that the room is very tall - ceiling height is maybe 5 m or more. The location is good as long as you have a map that guides you. Otherwise you are easily lost. The climate in the room is perfect, best of all other hotels we experienced in Tanzania.

Cons: The mosquito net over the bed was torn in some places. We didn't really need it, so it's no problem. It may make sense to install fans in the room and on the terrace on top of the house. Otherwise it is very humid, impossible to stay here for long.

Cons: It’s a bit on the old side style wise but that’s usual for traditional East Africa. The hotel is right by the port so it does get noisy at times and the guys taking travellers to off-island excursions with the boats are using the beach just outside the hotel so it’s buzzing. The breakfast terrace is great and there is a wide range of food along with an egg station for fresh omelets/ fried eggs etc. In room dining has a great choice of local and international food choices and was quick to arrive. The food was excellent. I also liked the surprise "gift" when checking in at the hotel which is a nice touch for all Doubletree Hilton Hotel guests. Hotel is in a great location just across the road from Park Hyatt and also close by to the Souq and main tourist attractions. There is also a tourist office next door to the hotel which was useful for arranging tours around Zanzibar.

Cons: We didn't have hot water the first day. They fixed it the second, but the water pressure wasn't very good- I don't have thick hair and it took awhile to rinse the shampoo out...
It's set back a ways from road so you need help with your bags an the food in the restaurant is limited and prices are high.

It is clean enough and has AC in the room (not AC in the bathroom like any other hotels in Zanzibar) (please consider that you are in Zanzibar not in Japan or USA) Every country has its own dynamics. Breakfast is good, you can get fruits, omelette and sausage , bread basket and fresh fruit juices. Cons: Tv wasn’t working but didn’t really bother us as we were busy exploring for the few days. Didn’t ask for help at reception either so maybe there was something we weren’t doing right! No big deal in any case!

Cons: We booked 2x superior double rooms but were given one very poky double that was anything but superior and had a major hygiene issue. Thankfully the staff took this seriously and we were given the second superior double for nights 2-3. When asked upon paying the bill how they would rectify the substandard first night, we were told that we had been upgraded (we hadn't, we just got the room we had paid for) and had accepted a complimentary massage as compensation. Breakfast service is painfully slow and instant coffee provided is dreadful (how embarrassing, in Africa's third largest coffee-producing country), unless you opt to pay extra for real coffee. Experience here depends greatly on the room you get, as there are some spacious, well appointed rooms, and others that are not fit for travelling salesmen and/or have maintenance issues.

Cons: Liked everything! pity the pool was under construction... but that is not the hotel's fault it's just bad luck / timing. If I had to add one more thing it would be that there is no Alcohol allowed of course we respected this and took a few steps down the road to 6 degree's south which was the highlight of my stone town experience... Pros: It is not new and it is not quiet but its defenetly different and worth staying at. This is in Africa. Staff comes in the evening and sprays insectspray on the bedcurtains. Liked the location. Good and variable breakfast with ny exciting foods.
Cons: Bed was too hard for my back but thats always a matter of preferance. Yoghurt run out for breakfast and I asked for it 3 times but nothing came. And there was over an hour brekfast left. Coffee wasnt good.

Pros: Our stay in Seyyida hotel was great. The hotel is very nicely decorated in African style and it is very clean. The only issue we had was that the room ac was just above the bed, and room was near terace where guests eat, so we could hear noise (not very loud). We mentioned that at the reception and were promptly given another room. Also, as honeymooners, we were given a free couples massage which was a very nice surprise. We would definitely recommend this place and would gladly return.

Pros: We arrived on a late eve of their independent day and unfortunately our room was not fully prepared but upon notifying them of our disappointment they were extremely apologetic, upgraded us to the most incredible and best room, and offered us dinner on the house. True customer satisfaction at its best!! If you have the budget or really want to mark an occasion book the Jaffarji Suite... it’s really something special and was perfect for the last night of our honeymoon!!! It’s like staying in a museum home. You really get a sense of being in Zanzibar and the feel of it’s history. There are a lot of old images on the walls highlighting the Islands history and many interesting books and artefacts laid around the property. Food was great and staff and the staff were lovely.

Cons: Lift wasn’t working and the breakfast is on the roof, 4th floor. The restaurant tables weren’t cleaned on time, it wasn’t left in a manner for the next person to just sit at a clean table. Restaurant furniture was also in a mess, stained seats as well as broken cushions on the seats. No doors in the shower and it’s quite a small shower so the floor gets wet, making it dangerous

Cons: - the shower was the only thing that could improve. It seemed a bit blocked as waiter raised as I used it and the water temperature was so difficult to get right to luke warm. Literally had to turn it inches to get it just right - staff friendliness at reception only, can improve. Restaurant staff were the best. Always friendly and welcoming - aircons are quite loud in comparison to some other places I stayed at in Zanzibar as well - towels and handtowels were a bit worn - everything else, was great

Cons: First room we got had cockroaches in the fridge. None of the lights, phone, fridge or TV worked. No remote to the aircon. We then were moved to a different room where the aircon made a terrible screeching sound, again fridge didnt work. Toilet took long to flush and the bathroom equipment didnt look very clean. Wifi doesn't work in any of the rooms only in lobby and restaurant. Sheets are not fitted so a bit uncomfortable to sleep

Cons: Beware of payment conditions. At check out, they asked for payment. We instructed they charge the card we used for the booking online but they didn’t - motivating that only one person can do this and he’s not in the office. We had an evening flight and left our bags at the hotel, as they arranged a taxi to pick us up at 8 pm so we tought there’s plenty of time for them to charge the card. No such luck. We agreed to pay with the same card live and they charged an extra 5% (we stayed 4 nights) and on top, rounded the amount with 2 extra $ ‘cause why not! I’ve looked online for this policy and couldn’t find any.... neither at the reception of the hotel. Even if this would have been announced somewhere (in which case we would have come prepared with cash), still don’t understand why I should pay (extra) because their personal is not at work. Then we paid for another room (used by our friends) in cash and he again tried to round up the numbers without reason and didn’t provide a receipt for this cash payment. We waited for some time and then asked for it ourselves. After this he tried to get even more money from us, asking if we want to shower later and also asking for more money for the taxi (we knew the exact price because 2 couples friends of ours have left the previous days). Was disappointed and left with a bitter taste - after having a great trip before this front-desk experience. Really can’t complain about anything else. The rest of the staff was lovely.

At night there was a disco next to the hotel, which ended at 2 am, so you have no chance to sleep. there was still something missing in the restaurant - pineapple, avocado, fish, seafood ... The bathroom didn't seem flat. The worst experience was when leaving for the airport. There was no arranged taxi, the receptionist slept, and when strangers from the street helped us to wake him up, he didn't understand English, did not know how to solve the card payment and was completely out. We left for the airport with an hour delay.
