Great location, very friendly staff and hostel full of character! Looking forward to visit again in the near future!
Incredible old ryokan that's been converted into a hostel. We got the large, room that sleeps up to 6 people and loved it. Tatami mats, paper doors, the whole place feels like a piece of history. Very cozy common area with fireplace, too! Staff was also really friendly and helped suggest onsens nearby.
The staffs were friendly and responded well to our needs. Actually quite a cosy hostel. We stayed in a quadruple room which is large enough to accommodate four of us and our big luggages. There were heaters for the room so we were comfortable as compared to the hallway. Location was within short walking distance to Yudanaka Station with some eateries nearby.
The hostel was too cold as we need to navigate the hallway to the toilet. There were small heaters placed along the hallway but it was not sufficient. The property could be easily improved to shut out the cold air. The room does not have any facilities except the bed and coffee table. All the comments were made relative to the price paid.
The staff are incredibly friendly and extremely helpful, they gave me a very warm welcome and enthusiastically answered all of my questions about the area, and most importantly, the local onsens. The facilities and bedrooms were always immaculately clean and well kept. The lounge was a really nice area to relax and even mingle with the other guests and the entire hostel has a really cool traditonal meets modern style to it. The area is also fantastic! It's just a short walk from the station, local conbini and even an amazing foot bath! Overall I had a fantastic time staying at the zen hostel, the facilities are fantastic and the hosts are even better. Thank you so much for your hospitality!
The dormitory has 16 bedrooms which is a bit daunting, however it is Japan so even then all the guests were quite polite and considerate!
+ Location is quite near to the train station + Onsen bath near the hotel + Restaurants available near the hotel + Breakfast was extraordinary + Staff speaks English well so we could ask them few recommendation
- It was so so quite during our stay, I don’t like the ambience which is dark, very very quiet and cold. - As we stayed at the private room, the bed was very very thin, the pillow was not proper at all it was so small and thin I even had to stack my bed & pillow with my husband’s to make it a little bit more comfortable so we got to sleep very tight - The room (private room) looks so old - The reception will be very dark whenever there were no staff. We just don’t understand why they left it very dark. - The sink in the room couldn’t be used - The toilet for female was in the 3rd floor and male on the 2nd floor. - The view from our room was none - There were no slippers and I had to wear our own socks and shoes outside the room as it was too cold to went bare foot - For Japanese standard, it was okay clean - The stairs are so small and we have to carry our luggages to the 3rd floor - No body were there at lounge or lobby as we were stayed at the low season, - After all, we decided to just stay for 2 nights instead of 3 nights.
