Daimaruya Ryokan - Yamanouchi - Building
1
9.3 Excellent (389 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Daimaruya Ryokan in Yamanouchi, you'll be a 3-minute drive from Shiga Kogen Ski Area and 5 minutes from Jigokudani Monkey Park. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a water dispenser. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Value for money ryokan run by energetic elderly couple with 3 I send, men woman & outdoor family. Owner gave us to lift to & train station as well to and fro to monkey park entrance. Very well located with Shibu Onsen area with free access to 9 public onsens, some are quite old but had character. In house onsens are quite new & very clean and much better than the public which is very unique. Loads of visitors dressed in yukatas & Japanese clogs strolling from onsen to onsen, wonderful sight to behold
Cons: Down to earth residence, not old not new but that’s what we went for value for money homely ryokan with a personal touch
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were fantastic, good communication. We very much appreciated the ride to/from the station and also to see the snow monkeys. Room was warm - 2 heaters available. Comfortable Futon beds. Very well presented Japanese breakfast came at exactly the time specified, all served cold except for the rice. We used the beautiful outdoor onsen hot pool, great way to warm up after a cold winter's day.
Cons: It would have been useful to have a few hooks for coats and jackets in the room. We did not find the Japanese type pillows comfortable as they were too high and hard, filled with a little pieces of plastic, so we slept without using the pillows. Showers are non-private (it's a few shower hoses in an open type shared area), segregated by gender.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ryokan is in a quiet town, but there are several good restaurants, and of course, you get access to the 9 public bath houses around the town. There is also an onsen at the ryokan. Each room has a toilet and washbasin, but the showers are downstairs. Breakfast was brought to our room at a time convenient for us. The staff were really friendly and had a good knowledge of English. The monkeys are just a short drive away and I know that the owner would have taken us there had we not had our own car.
Cons: Parking was not immediately outside the ryokan, but was only a short walk away across the river in a public parking lot.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious room. Old school but futon beds were really comfy. Slept like a baby.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfasts were delicious.
Cons: Possibly could have a been a bit cleaner; some parts of the rooms were quite dusty, but overall it was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Service, hospitality, free transfers to station and monkey park
Cons: Pillows
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are really friendly. The room was spacious and the bed were super comfortable. Private onsen was so good as well. Managed to capture the snow monkey even it hasn't snowed yet. Will recommend to other people who are going to Nagano for onsen venture!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is my second visit and I will be going again if I visit the snow monkeys. The owner was most accommodating, picking us up from the station and taking us and collecting us from the snow monkey park.
Cons: The private onsen is quite small, but lovely! Great place to soak on a cold night with the nights sky above you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location near onsens plus own private onsen Staff picked us up from station and took us to the monkey park Very friendly staff
Cons: Hard to get used to harder futon bedding plus beaded pillow - just a different culture

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was helpful and gracious. The culinary experience was exceptional. The hot springs were exceptional. The facilities were clean. We loved our stay, it was a highlight of our trip.
Cons: Leaving.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This accommodation set up our holiday in Japan, A truly unique Japanese experience, everything was excellent from the moment we arrived, We cant thank the staff enough for providing this wonderful experience including the superb and traditional accommodation and amazing meals. We definitely intend to return and would recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First, the hotel is private, intimate and luxurious. It’s traditional yet very modern. The front of the ryokan is deceptive because it looks quite small, but in the back there are the private living quarters and separate dining rooms. There are multiple options for onsen (open air, gender specific as well as shared onsen baths, as well as private onsen in your own room). All the facilities are well maintained, very clean, and elegant. Second, the staff are very professional, English speaking, relaxed, and very helpful. We arranged pick up from the Yudanaka Station, but instead the owner’s son surprised us and picked us up at the hotel we had been staying in (with regret I originally had only booked one night at Jinpyokaku and they were fully booked when later I tried to expand the reservation). Thirdly, the food and the service was outstanding. Lastly, it was very close to the monkey park - 45 minute walk, which may sound like a trek, but there didn’t seem to be any faster route. It was a beautiful, sunny November day and more monkeys than you could imagine! Overall, a magical experience and an unforgettable overnight stay.
Cons: We cannot think of anyway to improve our stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staffs are very friendly, always keep smiling, intending to help.
Cons: The price is too high compared with facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It really was a true Japanese experience. Our private Onsen bath, the amazing meals (really, really amazing) and the charm of the handwritten menu which was a series of drawings - by the chef. The staff were terrific and both welcoming and understanding that we didn’t know all the conventions. We do now. This was a stay we won’t forget.
Cons: It was too warm for the snow monkeys to be bathing!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts were very lovely and it was nice and clean. The Onsen on the roof was also awesome.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, nice view, friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Nothing in particular.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very accommodating to ensure you have a great experience. Everything was taken care of for us and it made a seamless and calm travelling experience. The area is amazing and the hotel is beautiful I would highly recommend to others
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our first ryokan experience and what a pleasure! The staff were immeasurably helpful. The location was amazing - on a street with 10 public onsens, and an easy 30minute walk from the monkey park. The food was an absolutely unbelievable experience, of the highest quality. Unfortunately, they can't cater for gluten free, but there was such an abundance of food I was still able to enjoy plenty of it.
Cons: There was nothing we didn't enjoy about the ryokan, though it would have been great if they could have made a couple of adjustments to accommodate a gluten-free diet, both at dinner and breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. I was in a panic mode the day before and I didn’t know how to get there by train/bus from Tokyo the night before, so I contacted the property and reassured me of my itinerary and that they would pick me up at Yudanaka station.
Cons: I loved everything, but I wish there were fresh fruit pieces available with the dinner and breakfast service.
7.5 Good
Cons: Sleeping on the poton was hard, and not so comptabal. The food was excellent. Nice experience. Naomi
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super friendly and welcoming! They had good english as well and were responding quickly to my messages via booking.com - i contacted them prior to our check in so they can pick us up from the train station which was super helpful and they also drove us to the monkey park. We decided to walk back from the monkey park and see a bit of the town and nature which was great. Room was nice and clean and we had our own toilet. Hotel’s onsen was pretty great too with rooftop views and the temperature of the water was pretty perfect unlike the scolding hot water at the public onsens in the town. You get the key to all 9 onsens which you can visit, being a guest at the hotel. Breakfast and dinner was pretty nice too - great value for money.

I had never tried an Onsen before, so this was a fun new experience. The staff were charming and so well mannered and highly skilled in hospitality. We also got to see the entire troop of snow monkeys!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing service and great location. They have an on site onsen which was heaven (and a private one for a small fee). The food was delicious and so filling! The hotel itself is only a short walk to the monkey park trail so it’s very easy to go to the park whenever. Best part of our trip!

Pros: The staff were v attentive and polite. They helped us park our car as the car parking was a distance away. All the staff look very happy to work there and felt like we were with family! The onsens were nice and clean. We had ayame room and fit my family of four well with private bath as well. Dinner and breakfast was excellent ! They even packed delicious onigiri rice for us for our onward journey! Thank you!
Cons: None
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so willing to help and attentive without being intrusive. I was well looked after when it came to catering for my gluten free dietary needs so I was grateful to Sho for all he did to assist with organising that. We had a room with a private onsen which was really special as the weather was perfect for being outside and relaxing in the warm water. I loved being able to dress in the traditional robe and footwear and walk around in it at the hotel as well as around the town if I chose to. The food that was served was superb and you could choose a Japanese or Western breakfast option and there was plenty of food. The insensitive within the hotel we were told were far superior to the public ones scattered in the town so we decided to use the ones at the hotel as there were many to chose from. We were given a care package to take with us when we left which we used for our lunch. It wasn’t inexpensive to stay here but we decided to indulge for a night and were pleased we did.
Cons: Maybe needs some new paint and carpet in parts of the facility.
7.5 Good
Pros: We enjoyed
Cons: No complains
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service and helpful, friendly staff Many of whom could speak English. Fantastic baths. Great quality food and all round well run Ryokan. Classic Japanese interiors and hospitality.
Cons: Would have loved to have had breakfast in the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Unique property with 400 years of history. Unique location and great bath experience
Cons: The rooms were smaller than expected, and what we had experienced from Ryokans at a similar price point. The meals, whilst very good were not at the same standard of excellence as other Ryokans at a similar price point
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful, and gracious, every person at the hotel went above and beyond to welcome us to our first ryokan experience. And the food! Delicious and beautiful. The town is perfect. The onsens were amazing. Our stay at Kokyua was game changing. Words cannot describe how wonderful this place is. It will now be a mandatory part of our Japan

Pros: The place is authentic. It was unique experience of living in traditional japanese home. Onsen is above all our expectations. So hot!!! But extremely relaxing. Hosts are great. Don't speak English, but no need in it. Provide free transfer from and to traine station and to monkey park. Don't miss traditional dinner and breakfast. It's worth trying!!! Many thanks.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts: fantastic Breakfast and dinner: fantastic Location vs Snow Monkey Resort: Fantastic
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and whole don’t speak too much English, have a good system with a phrase book to show you around. It was excellent that the owners collect you and return you to Yudunaka station, plus also up to the snow monkey park. Dinner and breakfast was simple Japanese home cooked fayre , but tasty. The outdoor onsen pools are a real bonus. We stayed “Japanese style” on floor mats and found it comfortable for a good night’s sleep.
Cons: Bathroom a little nearer to bedroom would be nice, but wouldn’t put me off staying again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is family run place with very friendly and cute owners. The place is located very close to the monkey park. We enjoyed the walk there and back. It is a bit of a distance to the station but the owner picked us up and dropped us there. We enjoyed the traditional food experience (breakfast & dinner) very much. The onsen seems to be very nice too (I couldnt use it for health issues). The rooms are the largest we stayed in so far on our trip :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice ryokan with lovely hosts that were very kind and accomodating! We loved staying here. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast, and the (outside!) onsen is beautiful. The Japanese-style tatami room is something we didn’t have the best experiences with in the past, but this time the futons were very comfortable. Overall a great experience!
7.1 Good
Pros: 10min walk from shibu onsen and the snow monkey park. The host will pick you up and drive you to the park, just ask ahead !

Pros: The hotel is very well situated in the middle of all the ski fields. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The Japanese food was five star and we ate like kings. The massage chairs were a godsend at the end of a days skiiing, as was the on-site Onsen. The western beds and rooms were very comfortable and overall, the hotel facilities were ideal for a week in the snow.
Cons: Nothing.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are incredible. So sweet, they go above and beyond. Even though the hotel is just a 2 minute walk from the bus stop, the owner came in the van to pick us up so we didn't have to carry our bags - so kind of him. I really can't thank the staff enough, they made our stay very memorable! The food is also fantastic and of an extremely high standard. We tried so many new and different things at breakfast and dinner which we loved. The outdoor onsen is great too.
Cons: The lighting in our room could have been a bit softer.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are the star. They speak good English and were friendly, warm, funny and really tried their very best to accommodate us. You can arrange for free shuttle from yudanaka station with them in advanced. And while they provide you key to 9 different public bath in the town, I would recommend going for the private bath by paying extra 500 yen. You will get the whole place to yourself for one hour. It's an outdoor bath overlooking the town. Totally worth every yen. The hostel also house a cafe and the coffee is superb. And so are the French fries. Shared shower cubicle is small, but water pressure is excellent. Love our room with seating area. And we enjoy preparing our futon with the assistance of a cute and funny illustration thoughtfully provided. Great location. Highly recommend.
Cons: Tight space at the reception/lobby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Highly recommended! The staff went above and beyond in accomodating us. The place is clean and efficient. The Futon mattress was comfortable. We regret booking only 1 night. The people in shibu onsen are very friendly and helpful. This is a magical place. Will come back again for sure.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly and everything really was perfect there thank you soooo much guys
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful, they really make it a wonderful place to stay. After a long journey it was so relaxing to change into the comfy yukata provided and spend the day visiting the many onsen. They provide a fun little map to help you find the baths and places to eat. Staff had excellent English.
Cons: Sadly it wasn't cold enough to see the monkeys (something I hadn't thought to check when booking), but they provide a free shuttle up there and the walk back was still enjoyable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent. We particularly enjoyed the shuttle service they provided. We also enjoyed their good humour and their professionalism. They created a very good atmosphere for guests. Our room was spacious and comfortable. I will definitely recommend this place to friends.
Yudanaka Seifuso - Yamanouchi - Building
10
9.0 Excellent (451 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Yamanouchi, Yudanaka Seifuso is just steps from Yumiya Shrine and 3 minutes by foot from Shiga Kogen Ski Area. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and a safe deposit box at the front desk. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely charming and traditional with such attention to details - traditional robes in your room, green tea on tap, beautiful onsens, private Japanese breakfast each morning which was so artistically prepared. All in all this was an experience that we have never had anywhere else and great location for seeing snow monkeys!!!
Cons: Due to the style of the Ryokan it was a shared bathroom and the only place you can take a shower is in the onsen. However after the onsen I felt so clean it didn't matter. The lack of double glazing meant that we had to use the provided electric heater but that didn't detract from our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the third time we've stayed here - it continues to be a wonderful and comfortable place to stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for two nights at Seifu-so and really enjoyed our time there. The private onsen was a wonderful experience and sleeping on traditional futon mattresses on tatami floors with the old painted screen walls around us was quite special. The owner is a charming man who, despite the language barrier, looked after us very well. He even gifted us some local apples and a jar of homemade apple jam upon our departure! Very thoughtful. We also appreciated the effort put in to our breakfast - any and all food intolerances/dietary preferences are accounted for so I was delighted to have a vegan breakfast prepared fresh each morning. I would recommend this ryokan to anyone!
Cons: The only criticism I have is that the ryokan was a little chilly throughout, although we did visit in November.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was close to the station. It was the nicest looking ryokan that I've stayed in yet.
Cons: It was slightly loud as there was a few families staying at the same time. We ate breakfast and dinner down in a room all by ourselves and were made to feel as if we were inconveniencing them by eating anything that they provided. We were not told about the onsens and how they all work either.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice public and private bath. The room was clean, and the breakfast was yummy. It’s also very close to the station.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The outdoor Onsen was very pretty
Cons: They place was empty of both staff and customers, everything seemed to be shut down, the building was closed. At the recpetion desk there was no one to communicate with. There was nowhere to get food. We found out on our second day that it was off season and the city had gone into shut down. Overall, well off the beaten bath and nothing to do or see.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at this property 5 years ago and our recent stay was just as good as is was 5 years ago. Hospitality was awesome they went out of their way for us, cooked up some warm treats after we hopped out the Onsen, gave us some locally made apple juice. We have very fond memories of our stay in Yudanaka mostly thanks to the hosts making us feel special. Thank you! Maybe we will see you in another 5 years. Wishing you all the best. I would highly recommended staying here. Robert Angela and kids from Australia
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hot spring baths at the Ryokan are amazing. Particularly the outdoor bath is fantastic.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the private onsen, and the room was very spacious. Public onsen was clean.
Cons: Staff service during dinner was a bit patchy. We were seated away from other guests so it was difficult to get the attention of the staff unless they were bringing us food for the next course.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel with accomodating staff. Really nice experience in Japanese style. Onsen on the roof where you can look at te stars. Unforgettable experience.
Cons: Nothing. Everything was great.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spacious onsen, shower and make-up area. Ample drinking water provided.
Cons: Hotel needed us to check in before 3pm in order to book dinner. We arrived before 3pm but was unable to get sufficient advice on how to spend the afternoon, due to language barrier. Would have been easier for us to spend our afternoon in Nagano before checking into hotel and having dinner if it can be arranged in advance.
7.1 Good
Pros: The outside onsen was nice.
Cons: Way over priced. The food quality could have been better. We had a no smoking room on the third floor. Next door was a group of people all smoking with their door open. I asked staff about the no smoking & they said the room was no smoking, not the floor. It stank!
7.5 Good
Pros: The private onsen and the friendly staff!
Cons: It’s quite expensive (as it is a ryokan style hotel)

Cons: Nothing at all.
7.5 Good
Pros: The Western breakfast was delicious, scrambled eggs, toast, cereal, and fresh fruit. The owner was very helpful and booked a private outdoor onsen for me which was lovely. He picked me up at the station and also drove me to the monkey park and picked me back up. His service was amazing. I was travelling alone so it was much appreciated.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everyone was really friendly and the room was great. Really big too. The baths were great. Really appreciated the lift to / from the monkey park.
Cons: We forgot to book breakfast and as we were late checking in we couldn't get breakfast - totally our fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Shimaya had the most accommodating inn with the sweetest staff. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were the same, spacious and clean. They provide cute Yukatas that you could wear around town and they were so comfortable as well. It's not far from the station at all, it's about a ten minute walk but the manager is more than happy to offer you a ride to and from the station. He also offers drop offs and pick ups to the snow monkey park. The breakfast was delicious and if you're going to other places in Japan, the manager offers recommendations if you ask as well as maps. They also speak English very well! The onsens were very nice, he also offers rides to Shibu. They also have an open air bath that's like a 3 minute walk from the inn, it has pretty look out point where you can get a good view from the city and part of the mountain. Highly recommended, would definitely come here again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ichiro-san is a great host and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast is well worth the 860¥ in the morning. While we would have loved to partake in the onsite onsen, it was just too hot for us. Everything was pretty much perfect.
Cons: This was something that couldn’t be helped, but just a note to tall people: the Japanese style beds are only so tall, so if you are over 6’, your feet may hang off the edge.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese ryokan 10 minutes walk from Yudanaka station. We experienced the outdoor onsen just 100m away from ryokan, it was great! The host is super welcoming, he gave us a ride to snow monkey park on the morning and picked us up after it to drive to the station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our first time in a ryokan and we loved it. The room was so beautiful with traditional tatami mat and sliding doors and the most beautiful view of the mountains.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and his wife do everything to make your stay perfect. They have a great onsen although it’s a really really hot one Breakfast was decent with amazing fruits
Cons: Sadly we only booked one night, would have been happy to stay a few nights there

7.1 Good
Pros: Good atmosphere Hot spring facility is good With free parking space is convenient
Cons: Room needs maintenance Staff mainly speak Japanese not able to help with attractions booking
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful traditional ryokan hotel and room. Staff were extremely kind, even if they didn't speak English (they know just some single random words). Momoyana onsen is astonishing: simply amazing. Very good japanese dinner and breakfast. Near Yudanaka station: you can reach the hotel walking barely 10 minutes.
Cons: Maybe the location: the town Yudanaka is not so beautiful as Shibu Onsen. But you can reach the latter walking 15-20 minutes.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: Real Japanese traditional experience, nice and calm place.
Cons: The Onsen was closed for cleaning between 9.30-14.00 so we missed half of the experience. The staff did not tell us about this, very poor information and none English speaking staff. We were confused and nobody could either explain or help us. Very frustrating!

Pros: Great traditional dinner and breakfast. Excepcional staff service. They helped us keeping our bags while we were visiting the monkey park. Shuttle service to monkey park and pick up/drop off to Yudanaka station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed one night at this hotel. The onsen and the staff were both great! Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Not a crowded onsen at the hotel, we were alone when we were bathing. We had dinner at the hotel and it was super:) Such a cute little town.

Pros: Very kind staff. Have delivery from Yudanaka station and hotel. Great half board dinner and so do breakfast. Everything is delicious. Nice onsen. Have private bathroom and rest room makes it’s very convenience. I’ll come back here for more next time.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food, both the breakfast and the dinner, was amazing. The staff was very welcoming and made great effort to communicate with us even if their English was very limited. There was a shuttle waiting for us from the train, which we did not expect but really appreciated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and her staff were super helpful and friendly. She drove us to the Monkey Park carpark and there was a shuttle to Yudanaka station when we left. Dinner was superb and the waiter was a delight. It was our 2nd wedding anniversary and they wrote a sweet message on the dessert plate. The hotel was clean and comfy with public and private onsen. My husband and I easily booked the private onsen when we arrived. The location was close to Yudanaka Station and Shibu Onsen. Overall a lovely stay.
Cons: Can not fault it. We liked everything for our stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, even though they spoke little English they went trough great lengths to be able to communicate. My partner has a nut allergy and they were very kind to check with the chef and make sure the menu was adapted for him. We were servered Japanese small dishes for dinner and breafast - there were a lot of dishes so make sure to come hungry! The room itself was lovely with traditional Japanese interior with a view over the river. We slept very comfortable on the floor and got to wear yakutas indoors and while walking around the pretty town of Shibu Onsen. There was also free shuttle to/from the station and to the monkey park which was appreciated. Highly recommend this stay!

Pros: The traditional Japanese feel, the private open air bath on the balcony, the tatami mat room. The heated igloo’s on the roof, omg!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast and onsen
6.7 Good
Pros: Private fine dining is not delicious as expected. The amount of food is not enough. Overall, this place has charged exorbitant rates. Some staff especially the young lady who can speak english well did not have service mind. She left my boyfriend to carry our luggages without her help at all.
Cons: I don't like food and some staff.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great stuff and unique Japanese experience.
Cons: Traditional Japanese beds are not comfortable. :) Showers are very old.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can’t say enough good things about this place, I only wish we could have stayed longer. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we were met at the station. We loved choosing and wearing our yukata (there was even one for our 5 year old). The onsen in our room was definitely worth paying extra for, so relaxing to be in the hot water outside! The room was beautiful with tatami mat flooring, paper screens, lovely Japanese details, and very comfortable futons for sleeping. The kaiseki dinner in our own private dining room was an experience not to be missed. The food was beautiful and delicious, and the service was personal, friendly, and attentive. It was just fantastic. There are comfortable lounges to relax in, including one for pre dinner drinks, and a lovely Japanese garden. In the morning we were taken to store our luggage near the station and then driven down to the snow monkey park entrance. The staff made everything so easy for us. The food was amazing, the onsen so relaxing, the room beautiful, but it was the staff who made our night here absolutely unforgettable, every detail is considered and attended to in such a lovely way. Thanks to all of you for making our stay so special.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic Hotel and perfect for a honeymoon. A seven minute walk from the station, a luxury hotel which provided a welcoming and memorable experience. The staff were courteous and attentive. The meal was exquisite, and was served with real style and is a beautiful traditional ryokan experience. They were om a schedule and certainly keep you moving through the many courses. There were differing levels of English, however it was not an issue. The best ryokan I have stayed in (after living in Japan) and I would certainly come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I honestly cannot say enough good things about this place! The staff is incredible, the facilities are lovely, the food is outstanding - by far and away my favorite stop on my entire trip. We stayed in a junior suite and loved having our own private Onsen! The view of the mountains was spectacular! We had a private dinner that was superb and the staff was so polite and accommodating. Cannot wait to return!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff here were adorable! They collection us from the train station (without us even booking a collection! - they were just there when we arrived) and drove us to the hotel. We received a welcome drink and our own personal staff member to call upon whenever we needed. We had a stunning view from our window, a lovely private bath experience (which we paid extra for) and we enjoyed the rooftop igloo bar. The hotel was a short walk from a local sushi restaurant and we got driven to the monkey park by hotel staff the next day. They even arranged for our luggage to be stored in a shop next to the train station so we could head straight off after our day trip.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location Hotel was very well maintained Room was comfortable and good size Food was excellent Service was excellent
Cons: The onsen Prefer to have more natural water
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Have to say, the staff were SUPERB in helping when our car needed winter tyre chains. They even sent a member of staff to Nagano to arrange them. We chose the hotel for skiing as it is the highest elevation in Shiga Kogen and very close to the Okushiga ski lifts.
Cons: The hotel restaurants are poor for the price. They need more family-friendly menus. For example: the Italian restaurant has no pizza or children's spag bol, and the Japanese restaurant has no children's snacks. The wine list in both restaurants are weird and dated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean spacious suite for family. Next door to ski school with English speaking coach and great for beginners. Beautiful and quiet location.
Cons: Limited restaurant options.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location in middle of huge powdery snow. The inside ski rental service is a big comfort ! Excellent restaurants food
Cons: The hotel has no room service as restaurants close at 9.30 For family with children, they could easily set up a small trovery shop so children can buy chips and other snacks
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Qarity&Location is good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Greats location, efficient staff, good facilities, ski-in ski-out, large room, great bartender, fireplace in bar-lounge
Cons: Boring and old-fashioned breakfast buffet, but good omelets. Overpriced in general
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Right next to the slopes. In mid-April, the resort was only partly full, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves, including the onsen. Some staff spoke English and Chinese, and even those who did not were happy to try to help.
Cons: Location is a bit remote (very high up the mountain), so even with a car, it takes a little while to get around. By April, when we were visiting, all the roads were clear of snow, so we enjoyed the drive up, but it is still a bit inconvenient.
