Huge room with giant bathroom, fireplace, beautiful carpet. Was perfect for me and my pet.
No elevator = hauling suitcase up and down stairs with a pet.
Lovely room, very comfortable. Clean. Quiet. Private. No check in location so can be confusing.
The internet was weak and the Griffin is an offshoot of the Williamsburg Inn so you won't find staff there or a dining room. Just some vending machines. The rooms are absolutely great but it's kind of weird and isolated. All the wings are not connected so you have to hunt a bit for your room. But really a great value once you figure it all out. You check in at the Williamsburg Inn next door (a ways) and you can eat there, too but the Griffin is very basic, but meets all your needs nicely. Except for internet and a lack of plugs - plugs are far away from nightstands so bring long charging cords.
Location was fantastic and the choice of dining options was great, if not a little pricey. The food at the Rockerfella tee room was amazing. The staff at the inn next door to the griffin (the main hotel) were lovely and friendly. The main building was beautiful too. The griffin is nothing to look at but comfortable, spacious and quiet.
We visited in February, i.e. off-season, so we had cold, dry winter weather and the Colonial Williamsburg visitor site was very quiet. The Griffin Hotel is part of the Colonial Williamsburg group and is room-only with a fridge, safe and coffee machine. The other hotels on the site are more expensive but have restaurants, bars and spa facilities. If you choose The Griffin, you will have equivalent quality accommodation to the up-market Williamsburg Inn and free access to many of its facilities. So, The Griffin is a brilliant option if you want complete freedom of where to eat and relax without losing the option of wining, dining and relaxing in style during your stay. In any case, most visitors will wish to enjoy the superb atmoshpere of the nearby Merchant Square for alternative eating and drinking establishments and tourist shops. The room was excellent and its location absolutely superb. The whole area was very attractive especially after a light dusting of snow! The Basset Hall Nature Trail is a must if you enjoy walking in the woods and the trail starts near The Griffin. Overall, a 5-star experience.
I cannot think of anything that a hotel group might offer that was not available to us at or near The Griffin.
