10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place! We couldn't expect such an experience: everything - from the rooms equipment to the chipmunks on the tree in the garden - is so thoughtfully done and taken care of. Just a few examples: there's a choice of sunscreens and moisturizers in the lobby; your glass bottle with shower gel is replenished daily; the terrace for breakfasts is set up so that you will watch a family of cutiest chipmunks on a huge tree; and there's everything for you to enjoy the pond in the evening without being bitten by mosquitoes. The breakfasts are to die for! I can't say enough good words about the team, their attentive attitude and sincere smiles! Thank you, guys, so much for this stay, you made our trip!
Cons: Everything was perfect! I wish we had another week or two here
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Me and my husband travel a lot, however I can say this hotel was outstanding ! Room were clean and beautiful. It’s in a busy area but doesn’t seem like it thanks to the amazing garden , a lot of animals visit. Their staff were amazing ! Always looking after us !
Cons: Everything was amazing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful garden, lovely room and even lovelier people! Breakfast was good and we watched monkeys eating fruit while we had our fruit plates one morning.
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager looked after us really well, it's a beautiful green property that makes you feel like you're staying in the jungle even tho you're 4min walk from the beach. It's rustic with great views, super clean everything and with lots of thoughtful touches like having a basket of sunscreens and repellents for guests to use. Having umbrellas and hats too. For the money it's goes way above and beyond the price range.
Cons: Honestly nothing much. They upgraded us to a family room which was beautiful! The only little thing would be that footsteps on upper floor are very audible in the downstairs rooms, they do have ear plugs to help :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The property is very quaint and pretty. Looks like a secret garden from a fairytale. Rooms are nice and well equipped. Centrally located, less than 5 min walking from Unawatuna beach. Gayaan and team are very helpful!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The Dunes is a green oasis in the midst of the busy area near Unawatunu beach. It is a 5 minutes walk to the beach. The hotel has 10 rooms and one private cottage . We were upgraded and given a roomy cottage which was a little away from the main building and had a private entry, small garden and a patio to chill. The cottage was very nicely decorated with a very earthy rustic feel and good use of wood. The cottage had an A/C, Remote Fan, Fridge, TV (TV is only in the cottage and not in any other rooms), Mosquito net, Coffee Machine. One of the highlight of this cottage was the Open air Shower in the bathroom. This place is just great and will I will definitely stay here next time I visit Unawatuna ...
Cons: May be the breakfast could be better and more variety could be added... Apart from this it is a 10/10 Hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at this amazing and absolutely beautiful place only for one night, but we enjoyed it 100%. The location is great, close to the beach and fruit market. The room is big, the bed was wide and very comfortable. The AC and fan worked great. The interior is incredible. The territory is also nice and you can see monkeys and peacock. The breakfast was ok, but the coffee was super good
Cons: Nothing, everything was fine.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and the staff were super accommodating. We had an early flight and they made us breakfast to go for 5am. Thanks for having us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing, relaxing spot in the middle of busy Unawatuna. Beautifully designed hotel, tastefully decorated, with a lot of attention to detail, attentive staff and great breakfast options. This is not your average beachside hotel - there’s an idea and a vision behind it that Gayan, the owner, and his staff are bringing to life. Very much recommend!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is a hidden gem. Only four rooms with a pool and full staff. We were with friends and had the place to ourselves. We relaxed, took a tuktuk into Galle, came back from the bustle and noise to calm pool waters. The food was exceptional. We ate all our meals at the manor and everything was delicious. The staff are wonderful as well. Very helpful and always willing to do whatever is needed.
Cons: Better adapters for multiple devices in the rooms. Should be an easy fix!

Pros: Cute family hotel with a great members. They also managed for us transport to the airport for quite good price and let us stay there longer then the regulary check out what was really great and we are thankfull for it. They were still asking us if everything is allright or if we dont need anything. This positive attitude would have every hotel, recommend to stay there! Perfect is also the bus stop just next to the hotel where the buses will take you everywhere, but dont count of potential schedules haha. Its close to beach as well and supermarket is 1 km close by.

I think this is a perfect location for families or couples.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fantastic. The room was super comfortable and spacious, mosquito nets, great shower, fans and air con, lounge area. Water was always supplied, food was amazing, our own table was always set and ready outside with baby highchair. The property backs on to beach but has grassed area with hammocks and pool which was fantastic for our kids who could run around but not disturb people. It felt really private but staff were always there whenever you needed. Thank you to all the staff for being so helpful and also creating a fun NYE for us with fireworks and seafood dinner.

Pros: The food was exceptional. Chilli crab dinner is highly recommended. We loved dining in the villa and butler service was very attentive. Perfect place for a relaxing holiday reading the book, gazing at the ocean and sleeping in.
Cons: Actually everything was perfect.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Very colonial look. Shower was good.
Cons: The beach you cannot swim or easily walk. No near shops. Closest restaurant was over 1km. There was no customer service. The beach view was very limited. The pool was clean but had a dark mossy look which was not appealing. There was no staff-there, you had to go around looking for one. Just a very unusual set setup.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Secluded beach and staff

Cons: Nothing special
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and friendly host. Everyone was supper kind and polite. The location is perfect as it was on the main road. Easily accessible to supermarkets and coffeeshops. The Unawatuna beach just 5min from the hotel and jungle beach won’t be more than 15minutes away. We had dinner at the hotel and the food was delicious with Sri Lankan taste. Rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable. Hot water also available. It’s worth the value of the money we spend. Overall it was a fantastic trip and a very well spend new year with family. Most importantly it was perfectly safe place to stay with kids. Parking was free and free WiFi is also available I really wished for a pool at the property then it would have been more than perfect. Highly recommend the place
Cons: Everything was good. There is nothing to complain about the property

9.2 Excellent
Pros: the atmosphere in this lovely hotel is awesome. Clean, helpful staff, near the beach
Cons: the wifi connection to internet was poor and random. Needed to ask the personnel to boot the system every morning.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The bed was really comfy and the breakfast was great. The staff were also lovely and helpful.
Cons: The internet connection didn’t extend to my room so I had to use communal areas. There was also a couple of power cuts during my stay which was frustrating. Toiletries could also be supplied.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Our first night at Norlanka was not good. The air conditioning did not work, the shower only gave out hot water, we could not plug in our phones to charge, the WiFi was non existent, the dinner we ordered was terrible and the room did not have any amenities like toothpaste, shower gel etc.. After speaking to the manager, they fixed some of these issues the next day (the WiFi continued to be bad) and gave us a 10% discount. My feeling is that Norlanka is much more suited to being a homestay than an actual hotel and after staying at other hotels which are similar priced in Ella and Kandy, it feels like fairly bad value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious - I tried every option!! I loved the staff, I get all the help I needed, and I felt so cozy all the time here. I had good chats with the staff. They even invited me to join them to the temple in the morning, what a pity I didn't have enough time to! Room was spacious with beautiful closet for clothes. From my balcony there was possible to see peacocks hanging around . Also I spot one kingfisher sitting high there and keeping on eye the hotel garden. As a conclusion, I definitely recommend!
Cons: Nothing to complain about!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location and food. Aircon and hot water always readily available:)
Cons: The room was a little dark.
5.4 Okay
Cons: Breakfast was very poor considering the other reviews.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, 1 minute walk from the beach. It is at the quieter end of the beach so you get a good night’s sleep. Staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating. Room was spotless and comfortable. Happy to recommend and happy to stay again. All excursions booked through hotel were slightly cheaper than outside prices and service matched the standard of the hotel.
Cons: Limited toiletries in the bathroom. There was one small guest bar of soap for two people. It wasn’t replaced.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: Wi-fi completely useless.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in two of the bungalows - they were very spacious and immaculately cleaned (as was the rest of the hotel) every day. There is a large fridge (containing chargeable soft drinks) in each room with tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water is provided daily. We found the mattresses super comfy (the pillows slightly less so) and there was a generous supply of coathangers (I have a thing about not having enough coathangers!) The staff were the friendliest, most helpful bunch of guys and an absolute credit to the place, I don't think you could meet a nicer guy than Prabath, the manager. We used the laundry service which was very reasonably priced, quick, and our clothes came back beautifully washed and ironed. The pool is lovely with great views to the sea and was cleaned daily - there are one or two sharp edged tiles in the pool, just take a little care. Breakfast is served overlooking the bay and consists of toast, butter, jam, eggs, juice, fruit, tea and coffee or an eastern breakfast can be requested in advance. Chargeable extras are bacon and cheese. Yes, it is up a steep hill (so steep that it's a real novelty!) but as previous reviews mention there is a free tuk-tuk service until 9pm - it really is no big deal and not worth marking the hotel down for.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike
4.6 Okay
Pros: Nice view, family atmosphere
Cons: Only cash payment possible for room and extras, nowhere the facilities to justify a four star rating, breakfast very simple and hardly any variation available, dinner only with pre booking, very steep incline to reach the property, difficult to bring beach stuff up and down as one needs good shoes to climb the steep street to the hotel, couch bed in family room of very poor quality.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Room very clean, breakfast got boring Didn't like the extra 10% on top of bill which was service charge
Cons: The hill to het to hotel plus 10% service charge on everything
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The place is very clean. Has a nice pool and a beautiful view. Nice to see different kind of birds and monkeys. Oh and you have to do steep walk but in 4 minutes you reach the top. For the not walkers there is a free tuk tuk shuttle.
Cons: After a rainy day without sunshine you don't have a warm shower because of the solar system I guess.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Steep entrance but well wortht it with fantastic view from the terrasse and the swimmingpool
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely pool. Very accommodating staff. Lots of wonderful wildlife and birds in the gardens and a family of monkeys to watch from the pool. Wonderful views too.
Cons: We were short of hot water because it’s solar powered, but that wasn’t a huge problem.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent position. Good service
Cons: Air con not working in room. Chef off during our stay
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great pool and a lovely view overlooking the beach. Cute family bungalows at a reasonable price. Steep drive but we didn't mind as it means we were away from the main road, and they can shuttle you up to the top in a tuktuk!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotelroom was big and clean. The bed was comfortable. The staff was lovely, friendly and helpful. We had a great stay!
Cons: The breakfast was okay, nothing special but it was fine. The hotel location is a bit remote, but this was actually quite nice, surrounded by rice fields.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything about the Fort Edge 5 minutes away from Unawatuna beach set in rolling lush countryside peace and quiet. The service and friendliness of the staff was as good if not better than our stop at 5* hotels we would ask for a tuk tuk and they would say no use hotel car and take us to the beach. My wife only drinks Diet Coke seems to be a real shortage in Sri Lanka next day half dozen bottles appear in fridge The service and food in the restaurant is fantastic drinks served to the sun bed honestly nothing is to much trouble we never even asked it was just done for you I am not a person who can’t walk to the restaurant to get a drink. We even had breakfast bought to the room one morning in fact I saw a lot of tea and coffee being taken to rooms in the morning. The rooms are very clean and cleaned every day the pool and pool area are very clean Breakfast very good buffet some days other days omelette, fried eggs bottomless basket of toast and coconut roti We wish the fort edge every success in the future and we are already planning a return Thanks Adam and Deborah Miles
Cons: Nothing to say we we had stayed longer great base
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an absolutely brilliant time. Don and his team are a great bunch. The food was out of this world. Fantastic value for money!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Peacefull
Cons: Hard bed
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beach is close by, about 10 mins drive. We were there for New Years, water temperature was perfect and we were able to find a lot of sun beds in front of restaurants. Most of the sun beds are free as long as you get something to eat or drink at the restaurant. Weather was great and lots of people so good vibe!
Cons: Nothing to dislike about the surrounding area or the beach, it wasn't the most beautiful beach I've been to in the world but it is still pretty and fun with lots of people and great for swimming, no complaints!
7.0 Good
Pros: Really friendly staff caring for your wellbeing and always there when needed. Nice pool and spacious rooms and fine working A/C Good warm shower
Cons: The room and especially the cushions and bed sheets/mattrasse had an unpleasant wet, moldy smell (we were there in rainy season so it might be different when the wheather is warm, but they should try to get control of the "wet-problem" - i.e. change bed stuff and ensure a sufficient ventilation or take other measures to reduce humidity levels in the rooms)

Pros: The most exiting thing about the place - it's location. Hard to imagine a place near the rain forest, with birds, peacocks, and monkeys and just 3 minutes away from the beach. Pure tranquility and relax. Exactly what we expect.
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Close to the beach, 10 min to Galle. We had the small complex for ourselves. Perfect for our last days in Sri Lanka!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, clean rooms which were nicely done up. Great pool which stayed cool even in scorching weather. Friendly staff. Great location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place was perfect for a relaxing few days at the end of our trip. The staff were friendly with getting us checked in, and then leaving us alone to relax, apart from if we needed anything - perfect! The pool is nice and warm, and the rooms are spacious and comfy, with AC. IT's also in a great location - walking distance to all the shops, bars and restaraunts in Unawatuna, while still being set back from the road for a more quiet and peaceful stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice selection of 3 different sets. Unfortunately have no time to try all of them, but the Sri lankan was good.
Cons: The path-walk to the villa is tiny and not very comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: luxury room with great bathroom in beautiful garden. Nice location - beach in walking distance
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Big room, beautiful garden, nice pool, kind owner, everything was perfect
7.1 Good
Pros: Amazingly quiet place, only a few rooms and nice garden with clean pool, water dispenser available, nice small terraces, big rooms
Cons: I did not like the payment process, it should be stated more clearly on the website as it confuses guests, we did not like the doors/way in to our bungalows, felt quite instable!
4.2 Okay
Pros: The pool
Cons: The staff was not very friendly. They make you pay in advance for everything which is very rude. The breakfast was cold and not worth the price

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Vista La Veranda Di Serena in Unawatuna, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Unawatuna Beach and 7 minutes from Galle Fort. A train station pick-up service is available for a surcharge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can’t describe this place in just few words! First of all: great staff! They literally helped us with everything and were so kind, friendly and professional. Thank you for that! Secondly, the room and the sea view - I’m already missing that! Turtles, ocean and being in such a calm and lovely place where you can completely enjoy your holidays. Third thing is their private beach which I found much better than the main one. I could write much more! This place is definitely worth staying in, so if you read this, you should consider that:-)
Cons: Nothing at all, it couldnt have been better!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location- idyllic setting on the beach. Watching turtles within reach of where we sat and ate breakfast outstanding de every morning. Owner/ manager so helpful and always on hand to advise and organise transport/ activities. Short walk along the beach to so many restaurants. Loved the whole Sri Lanka experience and will definitely return.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very gentle and polite staff, also great cook
Cons: Not much, beach was quite small but the location is close to a larger beach to swim
9.2 Excellent
Pros: All the flaws, such as the mannl rooms and the location on a noisy street, are nothing compared to the view from the window on the ocean, which is seen below, a couple of meters away. Own private beach
Cons: Small rooms
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Top position! Really seafront!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice and quiet place with nicely designed rooms and a small ‘private’ beach right in front of the hotel which we liked better than the more touristy Unawatuna beach (walking distance btw)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: 1. Location: Perfectly located very close (<4 mins walk) from the main Unawatuna beach. Has it's own private beach which is clean and undisturbed. I came here to have a quite time by the sea and got exactly that :) 2. People: Mr. Sadit was the one I interacted with most. He was super helpful e.g. helped hail a bus to Galle, and polite.
Cons: 1. Facilities: On arrival I was requested to upfront which I found odd and hasn't happened with me elsewhere. However, they kinda let it slide so all good. I am nitpicking but I was expecting an iron board along with the iron I request for the room.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The position
Cons: Too much much much expensive for a very very small room with just the necessary ( one side of the bad you cannot use and you need to go out of the bed at the end of the bed)without mosquito net... ( even if in the booking description of thd room there wa s pictures and description ) ... 150$ for a night is too too much also considering the christmas period probably they ask so much FOR the position..but be careful to the beach in Front of the hotel .... it's very very smalll and consider that close the hotel now there is a residence that if it' s full probably the people will fill the beach. ... ...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Highly recommend, perfect location , hospitality and good sea view room. The owner Mr Chandana was exceptionally hospitable. There was a problem with my booking as I had booked La veranda for 2 days but for some reason booking.com changed the booking to 1 day. How ever Mr Chandana helped me get a room for my first night at his friends place nearby, without even asking for it. Cannot wait to be back and stay here again.

6.0 Good
Pros: Staff were all terrific, really helpful and friendly and very efficient. Eating area very clean and the breakfast included was very nice. Close to beach and shops. The beach was beautiful, with a great choice of eating areas in walking distance. Excellent yoga class nearby, location was superb.
Cons: Building is very dated and tired. Was the most amount we paid in all of Sri Lanka, the price was too high for condition of building and rooms. Bands played on Christmas Eve til 3 am so was very noisy but they couldn’t help this .
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed is very comfy & AC is very good too.
Cons: Hot water not available during night time. May be it’s on solar power. But it’s ok because water is not that cold.

They couldn’t do enough to help us and were accommodating! The restaurants food is so tasty we ate at the hotel most nights because it was sooooo good!! Manager arranged us trips to the national park and into Galle- very helpful. We didn’t want to leave this hotel! It made our honeymoon, we’d love to return one day and will be telling all of our friends and family to visit!!

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is extremely attentive, and ready to help even if you are asking for something beyond the rules.
Cons: It is really noisy in some rooms due to the road is close. It is not wide, but there is a traffic 24h/day, and tuk-tuks produces a lot of noise. Unfortunately, windows are not sound-proof. However, there are also quiet rooms, so choose carefully.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I stayed here for five nights. The staffs are good. Room cleaning is excellent. They even give fresh flower on your bed everyday. Hotel is on the beach very convenient. The hotel restaurant is good at food, not too expensive. The breakfast always at many choices deserving trying.
Cons: The most annoying thing is the noise in the evening until midnight. Almost everyday the music will last until 12. And you can clearly hear people talking on corridor. Not quite place to clear your mind.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything is very well curated and organized. The room is made of wooden materials which makes the atmosphere so warm and homey. The food is great. The staff is fantastic. The position is also perfect.
Cons: Can’t complain about anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They had the most amazing spread for breakfast with a huge variety of dishes!
7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good but not perfect. We would have preferred a buffet. Staff was friendly and helpful, specially the girls at the reception desk. Location was good and right at the beach, and located at the nice calm central street in Unawatuna. Although the hotel does not have a pool or a gym, this is offered at their sister hotel close by. They even offer free transportation.
Cons: We found cockroaches in our room at several occasions. When notified management we where offered both a new room or to stay at the sister hotel, so we really appreciated their immediate actions. Our room was on the ground floor next to kitchen and serving area and was very noisy up until 10-11 pm every night/day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best stafff and service and so clean
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: I don’t have much to say here.
Cons: I did not like this hotel. Room was tired and we were basically on the road, which consists of a very sharp bend, so the toot toots were constant. There was also no glass in the bathroom window so this noise was very load. The hot and cold taps for the shower were on the wrong way around which caused some initial confusion. The overhead shower also came away from the wall. When we called reception about this the assistance they sent were incredibly hard to communicate with and dismissive. There were also five power cuts on the first day and one on the second. After this we tried to stay away as much as possible. I would not recommend this hotel.

Pros: Cute family hotel with a great members. They took care of us very carefully, were kind to us and cooked very tasty omellets for breakfast and dinner - highly recomend to ordes some food there as well!
Cons: Just one thing was that there was quite noise from the road - its right next to the hotel and its frequently used it.
