Pros: This old world hotel has been given an update to make it comfortable by modern standards, although the update is starting to get near the point where it needs another refresh. Our room was smaller than other places where we stayed on our trip (for two people I wouldn't want anything smaller), but given that we were virtually right on the square in Toulouse city center and were paying a very reasonable price, it would be unfair to expect something more. The bed was reasonably sized, though - I'm 6'8" tall and slept comfortably with my wife. So you only notice the room size when you are up and about trying to get ready. The staff is great, helpful and welcoming, especially with respect to explaining how to get through the square to park. Parking's not cheap, but it's reasonably close - there's a big underground city lot whose entrance is diagonally across the square from the hotel. A caution: do NOT try to race over the automatic bollards that rise up to block off the streets. We saw a woman try it and the bollard knocked her engine almost out of her BMW. I'm sure the damage was worth tens of thousands of dollars. We spent two nights and had breakfast one of the two mornings. The other we walked out and went to a patisserie, which was a good deal less costly but not as varied. The orange juice, fresh made in front of you, is especially good, but everything else was good and fresh, too. In the afternoon the staff will serve you a drink in the breakfast area, which converts to a nice lounge area that makes up for the room size - it's a pleasant place to sit and read. But also, just outside in the square there are many restaurants with outdoor seating that are great for people watching.

I thought it was a shame the tables weren't set for breakfast and I didnt like the pieces of brown paper for place mats. I found the breakfast disappointing, with very limited choice, and expensive for what it was (13E). There was little that I wanted to eat. Fruit salad? Dried fruit? Coffee from a machine. I found the hotel impersonal - it seemed to wish to be impressive rather than welcoming.

Our room was 108 and we experienced noise from people in the street outside from a club/bar nearby around 0030 to 0100. Allowing very young children in the pool often creates annoyance to other guests through noise and can ruin the ambiance

Cons: At 8.50am there was no food left - breakfast was until 10! There was no crockery available either. No orange juice, bacon or yoghurts left. At 14.50€ for breakfast I expected better - and also as this is a 4* hotel.

The ibis budget Toulouse Centre (formerly Etap Hotel) is conveniently located in the city center 600m from the SNCF Matabiau train station, along the Canal du Midi. The hotel will be under renovation (breakfast and reception) in November and December 2019. Breakfast will not be served as a buffet, but we will offer a takeout combination with a hot drink, cold drink and croissant at a preferential price.

Cons: Breakfast not good. Nothing much to eat. Only few choices of food. You only get bread , butter and some jam or honey. Coffee , tea or some juice. That is all you have in breakfast. Pros: Hotel in good location for canal and easy ten minute walk to town center.
Cons: The hotel was not easy to find, (arriving when dark after a drive from southern Spain) It looks as though the hotel has been recently been 'taken over' by Ibis and still displays huge signs with the 'old name'. A smallish sign is displayed but only seen by us over the entrance door once the hotel had finally been found. (The sat nav code took us to the general area but parking was difficult when we set of on foot to find the building) The hotel facilities and room was well worn and in need of renovation/redecoration. The bed and bedding was clean and the bathroom basics seemed clean but the whole room was in dire need of a deep clean with the corners and tops looked untouched for years. The ceiling in the room was blackened where the air conditioning discharged. The bathroom tile grouting was black at shower end of bath and the bath bottom had 'rust like' stains leading towards the drain. I would not step into that bath!
