Torquay hotels near Abbey Sands

Pros: Decor, comfy bed, very clean. Special mention needed for the the extra effort for breakfast. Melon stars in the fruit salad, the rose shaped butter pats and cute baby milk churns made it an experience. A lot of thought had gone into it.

Cons: Time for breakfast was 8.30 to 9.30 which would normally be early for a weekend stay. OK for us as we were watching the rugby. Also I reckon they would have served us later if we had asked as were very accommodating.

Pros: The Marstan is a carefully restored Edwardian Villa hovering about the beaches of Torquay –– it features a lovely dining sitting room with a beautiful walnut grand piano and carefully gilded furniture. The overall impression was inviting, friendly and quite luxurious. The hosts were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. The rooms were of a high standard with a very good bed, good linen, and comfy pillows. The property features a pool and spa which looked nice but we did not have time for a visit. Breakfast was sumptuous and of high quality –– fruits, yogurts, fresh bread and a very nice cooked breakfast all included in the price was a delight. Wifi worked well, a 10-minute walk to the restaurant area of Torquay and 3 minutes to the nearby Meadhead beach (which could just be glimpsed out our window). The quality was outstanding and the price more than reasonable. Highly recommended!

Pros: The property is classical Devon period building with rooms of good proportions and high ceilings. The decor was traditional and homely including a 19th century grand piano in the reception room. Close proximity to the town and other hotels offering resturant facilities. Onsite parking and a pool fir the warmer months. The bedrooms are various sizes, we stayed in a compact double, but the dimensions, decor and facilities were very comfortable.

Cons: There is nothing to dislike in this hotel.

Cons: Nick and Jackie were wonderful host's and the guest house is beautiful well worth a visit and the room is beautiful and comfortable. We loved it we would definitely like to go back for another visit.

Pros: The breakfast offered an excellent choice. The location was good for access to the sea and to the town centre.

Cons: Some minor end-of-season niggles. It took a long time for water in the tap or shower to run hot; the alarm clock had been left on settings that woke us up in the middle of the night; the TV remote was unreliable; the coating inside the kettle left specks in the tea. Small things, but a bit frustrating.

Pros: Friendly staff,lovely room and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent location.

Pros: Lovely clean homely feel, a nice size and was simple to navigate around - we loved the spa and was there for most of our stay! My skin feels wonderful and we’ve never felt so relaxed. Beds were comfy and room was vary spacious with a large en suite shower room. Staff are very attentive, welcoming and friendly, you can see they don’t mind going the extra mile for their guests.

Cons: Breakfast was rather simple and not what I’d expect from a four star however it was still enjoyable and we can’t really complain.

Pros: The hotel has been vastly upgraded and retains traditional style - bit chintzy but sympathetic to the area and the clientele. It is spotlessly clean throughout. Conveniently located and stones throw from Abbey Sands, Torre Abbey, the pier and several restaurants which are worth a visit (The Orange Tree, Number 7, Hamilton's)

Cons: Not a great welcome - the door was locked on my arrival and no reception staff. Rang the doorbell - greeted by a guy who looked like a bouncer who grunted something at me - quite intimidating for a single young female! The parking situation is a bit of a nightmare - the parking area at the front has tight spaces - several reserved which were never occupied. Lots of blocking in which seemed to be the norm but no clear system of getting your car out if you do end up blocked in. More parking available under overhanging trees around the side of the building but unlit, steep drive and uneven surface. Spaces are limited, leaving council car park down the road and street parking the only option (NB - Torbay council are quick to give a ticket!) The rooms are stiflingly hot - even I the middle of winter! Windows have a safety catch on them so prepare to cook overnight. Rooms facing Belgravia road noisy the whole night - nothing to do with the hotel - but not conducive to a good night sleep. The breakfast situation wasn't clear - no indication if it was included in my stay or not - and no-one to ask as no-one on reception, in the bar, restaurant or indeed in the entire building. Seemingly a hotel run by invisible people.

Pros: The whole experience was brilliant! The hotel had reserved a spot in the car park for me before I arrived which was really helpful. The lady at the check-in desk was incredibly helpful and friendly and the breakfast was delicious.

Pros: The staff were polite, the room was clean and big and the beds were very very comfortable. Breakfast was good too.

Cons: The parking was a bit tricky.

Cons: Hi, just a minor point The paintings in the restaurant. the paintings as a 4 star hotel could be more considered. Hanging Cezanne still life reproductions did not make sense to me. Given it is such an important room, with a very elemental room, with views of Torbay Bay.

Cons: Room too hot (no thermostat), had to keep balcony door slightly open. Bathroom too small, almost impossible to seat on toilet seat as it is positioned tight against the wall and toilet paper holder fixed in the most stupid position so it gets in the way...?????!! Cheap and tatty coffee table in the room, let’s the room down.

Pros: The garden with statuesque trees and see views were stunning Loved massive windows in the dining room let the light pour in The pianist with a glass of champagne was a nice touch before Christmas lunch Enjoyed the fresh fruit seeds and coconut and yogurt and fresh pastries at breakfast

Pros: We did book a 'comfort' cosy room but it was xtremely small and the bed very uncomfortable, the mattress was too big for the base and the topper kept sliding off as that was too big also.

Pros: Breakfasts, perfect. Dinner , perfect. The breakfast bacon, the dinner chicken & veg pie would grace a 5* hotel. Did I mention the roast ham? Well that was perfect too. Your staff, without exception were amongst the friendliest we have met, just the cheerful good morning and a smile. Your staff do you proud. The hotel is clean, spotless in fact. A Victorian building obviously this dates the accommodation but the rooms were warm and in good repair. Indoor pool is warm and clean, add the child's pool, sauna, steam room, and Two full sized snooker tables in good condition, table tennis, bowling and many other games there is plenty to do indoors.

Cons: Easy to criticise this is a 3* hotel, dated accommodation but the welcome the food and the facilities make this one of the best hotels we have stayed at. We holiday 3-4 times a year mainly abroad in 4* and 5* hotels. They are more modern but the Carlton hotel is better in every other regard.

Cons: The coffee at breakfast was tasteless (out of a machine) but staff made me a pot of coffee which was fine
