The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was nice and the location was great. breakfast was good too.
The hotel need a really good clean. It was dusty and filthy.
The location of this hotel is on the same street as the Santiago protests involving street fires, smashed windows, and a police response of riot gear and tear gas. The hotel itself has had its first floor windows smashed and were then repaired. Neighboring buildings have had their windows smashed or structure burned. The walls are filled with graffiti. I went inside the hotel to give them the courtesy of informing them I would not be staying at the hotel. When inquiring about a refund, I was told by their reservations manager Michael that because I had purchased at a non refundable rate, I would not be returned by money. I have video of the area and a photo of the front of the hotel to prove the state of the place. The location of this hotel is unsafe and must be avoided at all costs.
Not their fault - but right in the middle of the protest zone. However, the staff seemed to have given up on keeping areas like the rooftop pool/restaurant properly maintained.
The hotel offered a good breakfast.
The hotel is located in the centre of where the current protests are taking place. We were not informed about this prior to our visit or given any information by staff when going out for the evening. This resulted in finding it difficult to return to the hotel after dinner and being tear gassed three times on our approach to the hotel. Nearby metro stations were closed and taxis could not stop outside the hotel. On reporting this to staff they offered no sympathy or support. Our room was small and had little natural light. The room was not cleaned or turn downed during our stay either which you would expect as standard for most hotels at this rate. The pool area was very tired and run down with smashed windows.
The staff were absolutely brilliant - very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. This was particularly important because the demonstrations against the government were on-going (February 2020) and caused some disruption at the weekend during the evening, although this may be settled after the referendum due in April 2020. It cannot be easy for the staff running a hotel in these circumstances, but the disruption should not put off intending guests. The room was spacious and comfortable with reasonable storage space, and quiet for sleeping. The hotel is ideally sited for many of the tourist attractions: the Parque Forestal is across the road; it is 10 minutes easy walk to the funicular and the tourist hop-on, hop-off bus service; and 15 minutes walk to Santa Lucia. Taxis arranged by the hotel are quick to arrive and reliable (as is Uber) and the receptionists are happy to arrange transfers and longer trips out of Santiago. There are plenty of local restaurants nearby in La Starria and Bella Vista to cater for all tastes.
The appearance of the hotel is not as expected, with anti-government graffiti covering the lower walls, windows covered to protect them from the demonstrators and some damage caused by the demonstrators trying to prise off bits to throw at the police. But the demonstrations tend to be in the early evenings and do not stop guests doing the usual tourist things, although dining out needs to be carefully planned. Some parts of the hotel need refurbishment - including the sunshades and the seating on the terrace - and the showers could use either a door or a curtain to prevent splashing the bathroom floor. Much of this, however, will have to await the cessation of the demonstrations.
