Cons:Clerks didn't speak english. At first they tried to put me in an economy car (a 2-door tiny Spark) when I told them I got a Standard car. They couldn't understand, so I showed them a picture of my confirmation that clearly showed a 4-door standard car. Finally they got me the correct car. At checkout they Kept wanting to charge me insurance that cost more than the rental cost of the car. wanted to charge me extra for everything. When I said no, they said they had to put a $3000 hold on my credit card.
Pros:When we arrived agent said there were no guarantees about car availability and sure enough they had no cars available. We had to go without a car in Mexico making our trip difficult to get around.
Cons:Soon after renting the car one of the tires went flat. The local office of Avis in Huatulco Mexico did not have a replacement tire, so we could not use the car for 24 hours. The next day at the garage the tire was found to have a small leak along the outer wall of the tire. Our view is that it was already there when we rented the car. The Avis representative said that they would not take responsibility, and that we had to pay for a new tire (they would not accept putting a patch). Outrageous. They then charged us a late return fee for a full day for bringing in the car 45 minutes late. There had been an accident 200m in front of the airport, and no cars could enter for 1.5 hours. My company has been renting from Avis for years, but it is clear that some of their agents in non-US countries are greedy and short-term thinking about customer service. Be wary of Avis in Mexico.

Cons:I’ve rented vehicles in Mexico many times however Huatulco Airport has a racket going. It is a fairly isolated airport so it is fairly difficult that obtain other options besides car rental or taxi. We had a reservation with hertz for 5 days for approximately $230. I realize they always try to add insurance on and expect a little more expensive however they tried to charge me $761. He told me it was bc I was 1 hour early and the other rental agency’s didn’t have cars right them either. We went to the other ones as well but the charges were nearly the same. There were several angry customers walking around as well and two would say out load to not use them as they were trying to scam them too. Needless to say we got a taxi instead.
Cons:1. Rude and unsympathetic staff. 2. Was provided with a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer whose battery drained while parked on the side of an isolated road in Oaxaca while the radio and emergency lights were on for only 30 minutes. I had to flag a passer-by to start-jump the vehicle, a major inconvenience. 3. The quoted price thru Kayak differed from the actual price by 4.5%, the commission for using a credit card. Aren't most cars rented using a CC? What a ripoff.
Pros:Car was fine, staff were pleasant and efficient
Cons:I was to be charged $96 Canadian and my initial email confirmation stated this. Subsequent emails from europcar quoted the rate at $96 USD. A small difference but not insignificant. As usual in Mexico, the amount after all the mandatory fees was about $700USD.
Cons:It is a total scam . Pick was a nightmare price was triple . Returned car 3 days early because it was a not running well . They wouldn't refund any money noy even insurance . Do not go there. They won't give u a car with your credit card insurance . U have to pay there overpriced insurance.
Cons:I reserved a car three weeks in advance of the pick up date, but when we showed up, they insisted that they did not have a car available for us. I argued with the counterman for 30 minutes since my destination in Puerto Escondido was an hour away, and even brought over a person from AVIS next door to interpret for me. Finally they brought me out to a car in the parking lot, and rented it to me. When I first reserved the car, I called the home office in the UK to verify what the final price with insurance included would be, and was told $107 for the car, and $97 for the insurance, for a total of $204. I would have rented from another company but it was the holiday week and all other companies were reserved 100%. Once they finally "found" a car for me, the price was now $242.00, take it or leave it. I will never rent from Europacar again.
Cons:They tried to nickel & dime me by telling me the car I reserved was getting an oil change, so I could upgrade for ONLY $6.00 more a day. I said I would wait for the car to be returned from the oil change. Than after a ten minute wait I was given the bigger car, that I really didn't want. Those kind of tactics leave a bad taste in my mouth. FdeK
Cons:They claimed eurocar did not recognize credit card additional coverage nor personal auto insurance. As such, they required me to pirchasr their required minimal insurance, which tripled my rate. I went next door to hertz, who treated me great. Hertz said the rental car agencies their work off of commission so they charge what they want and say what ever they want.
