Vwry friendly and helpfull staff. Breakfast good. considering the price everythong was excellent. San francisco is expensive. Sheets and towels very clean.
The price was great; probably unbeatable, I'd say. We felt safe and secure once inside the property. The entrance to the property was well and brightly lit; with the somewhat sketchy-feeling neighborhood, the bright lighting is really, really nice to see. The common bathrooms and shower facilities are all conveniently located really, really close to each of the rooms. Definitely more a hostel than a hotel; the common breakfast area was buzzing with activity starting right about the time their breakfast is served at 7am. The front desk staff that we interacted with were friendly and accommodating; and they'll secure your baggage for you if you arrive before your room is ready. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I liked that the Minna Hotel has the usual creaks and squeaks and other assorted aspects I find charming about such Victorian-style buildings of San Francisco. And, while it's not as quiet as a night in the forest by yourself but we found the room to be surprisingly quiet despite the neighborhood. Pretty much just the occasional siren typical of a big city like San Francisco.
Housekeeping could be better. I suppose it's adequate but there's certainly room for improvement. There's mildew in the corners of the bathrooms and/or showers; rust stains on the walls of the shower where the grab bar meets the wall, and one of the soap dispensers in one of the showers simply did not work. And the bathrooms/showers were not cleaned until later in the day (like after 3:00pm). I didn't feel creeped out or anything but I was glad I brought "shower shoes". No stay-over housekeeping in our guest room. We didn't ask for any; but this is part of why I consider this certainly a hostel rather than a hotel. There's some rather nicely done graffiti on one bathroom stall wall. It's nice graffiti as far as that goes, but it shouldn't be there; housekeeping and management should demonstrate their pride in their property and graffiti doesn't demonstrate that. The provided breakfast was only toast, bread, butter and jam; a selection of cold cereal and milk and instant oatmeal, super-hot coffee and water for tea; and orange and apple juices and cranberry cocktail and cold water and a basket of delicious apples. I would have liked to have seen a little more variety; maybe some pastries. However, it was food and it made for a decent breakfast. Finally, it seems always easier to find things that are wrong than things that are right. I feel bad that this list of negatives is a longer list than the positives I list above.
Bad neighborhood and pictures are not true
Located close to the BART, the showers and toilets were plentiful, nice to have breakfast.
The carpet was a bit whack, it could be updated probably.
Rooms were fine. One of the legs on the bed was broken but it didn't cause too many issues. The shared bathrooms were clean and I liked the fact that the showers were completely separate and like a private bathroom
The neighborhood is a bit tough. A lot of homeless people wandering around. However, it is literally a 2 min walk to market Street where everything is located.
