Grand Hôtel Lévêque

We had booked the Grand Hôtel Lévêque 11 years ago and found it to be reasonably priced for its location and quality, so we made reservations again for our recent trip to Paris. The hotel had been updated, retaining the charm and still providing a wonderful headquarters for our Paris vacation. Location: You can't beat Rue Cler for ambience and convenience. The hotel sits above this famous pedestrian street filled with vendors (fruit, vegetables, bread, pastries, cheeses, meat, flowers, etc.) and restaurants. It is within two-and-a-half blocks of the Metro, and just over a block to the nearest bus stop. (As with any location in central Paris, it would be very difficult to find parking, so access to public transportation is an important consideration.) Comfort: As in many European hotels, the rooms we've stayed in have been small but efficient: nicely decorated, comfortable amenities, etc. AC, WiFi, television, towel warmer, hair dryer, coffee maker and room safe were all available in the room. Our room overlooked Rue Cler, which is busy with people from 8am until sometime after midnight every day. But with the windows closed (and without traffic noise) it was very quiet in our room. Even when we opened the window, the sound was more of a "hum" of conversation with a punctuation of laughter every so often. (Although the restaurants serve alcohol, these are not bars - no loud music or loud, drunk patrons shouting at all hours of the night!) It is also noteworthy to mention that the hotel has a SMALL lift/elevator. We most often took the stairs to our 3rd floor room. But you can fit two people OR one person and luggage in the lift at a time. We did not take advantage of it, but there is a nice self-service coffee and drink lounge on the main floor with small cafè tables. Staff was friendly, helpful and were able to communicate in multiple languages. Value: Everything in central Paris is expensive. I would have hoped to find rooms for less. But, given the convenience and quality of Grand Hôtel Lévêque I believe this to be a great value - especially as compared to other properties that we looked at booking. We would definitely stay here on our next visit to Paris.
