Atrociously long wait at the airport rental counter. It took us 30 minutes to fly from Curaçao to Aruba, and one hour to rent! There were four people working at the counter, with one working and three looking and a huge line of customers. The car itself was rundown, big mileage (35,000km) and very basic. The car had four wheels and transmission and brakes were working. Office was across street from terminal.Cons:
I had ordered an SUV but was downgraded to a KIA sedan. Car seats were smelly and full of old sun screen. Car was dented and scratced and probably at the end of it's rental life. Office was unorganized and had slow and inefficient service. personnel were not customer friendly. First trip to Aruba. Marriott hotel was great but car rental and airport experince will keep me from ever returning to Aruba.5.2 Fair

Cons:
When we arrived our reservation was cancelled so Ace never sent the shuttle to the airport. We waited in the rain for 90 minutes. Then we were not told to activate a button on the key fob to deactivate a theft protection and start the car. We spent $30 on tips to strangers trying to start our car.10.0 Wonderful

We made a reservation for a van amd when we got there there was NO van, there was also NO other vehicle that wohld fit 6 people available- we were given 0 options!!! We hace to take a small car and come back the next EVENING to get a van, disrupting all of our plans! Not to mention how RUDE the employees were, Michael was by far the rudest person!!! I hd to call Dollar US cuatomer service juat to complain because there was not even a manager in store!!10.0 Wonderful

Too many extraneous charges and deposits up front that we didn't know about. They were waived upon return of the car, but a $361+ rental agreement came with deposits totaling $942+. That's one way to give a senior citizen heart failure.Thrifty

Cons:
The total charge quoted to me was $221.02 for a 9-day rental. I had phoned Thrifty when I had made the reservation to inquire where the car pickup location is, and the representative stated that he believed it was the kiosk at the airport. Even the copy of the reservation stated "Free Shuttle To Car". However, when I checked in at the airport kiosk, they stated that the pickup for the vehicle was offsite from the airport, that they did not provide a shuttle to the offsite location, and that I would have to take a taxi to the pickup point. They claimed that the statement in the reservation copy that I produced at check-in was no longer in effect and that it was shown there in error. Instead, the offered to have me pick up a vehicle at the airport, but that I would have to pay an additional $24.91 USD + tax for "Airport Fee", which raised my total rental fee to $246.40 USD, an increase of $25.38 USD. I was not in a position to seek a taxi at that time, so I reluctantly agreed to accept the additional airport charge. Other competitive car rental firms that I've used for many prior years all offer free airport shuttle to offsite pickup and drop-off locations. If I had known this beforehand, I would likely have rented elsewhere who also quoted me competitive rates. Although I have rented from Thrifty a few times in the past without issues and was satisfied with their rentals, this time I feel I was a victim of erroneous advertising and a misleading claim of a bargain rate.5.6 Fair

Firstly, the car was a 2016 and a piece of garbage. The door lock only opened the driver door, rather than all of the doors as it should have. Our car died on the island. We called the service number and they told us 20-30 minutes. An hour later they came, tried a jump start and battery, but to no avail. They said the car needed to be towed, and after a phone call, said they were to take me to the airport to get a replacement. I questioned the drop off point since Payless is offsite. Of course, when they dropped me at the airport, there was no one there. I imposed on the Avis attendant (Avis owns/partners with Payless) to get me a ride to Payless. There they gave me a replacement vehicle. But no one from Payless knew of any of my previous conversations with them during this ordeal. To their credit, they provided me with a courtesy discount for my troubles when I settled my account.... but only after I asked.10.0 Wonderful
