Pros: A little gem! Yoko is the nicest host! Trust the comments - if you want a once in a lifetime experience in a guesthouse in Japan, stay here. The double bedroom was really nice too, plenty of space. Location is perfect - bike rental 1 min from the house and close to main points. I can’t recommend it enough!!!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was charming & helpful on all levels.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything! Amazing host and nice space!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time at the guest house. Yoko is a very kind host and helped us a lot during our stay. She even invited us too have a drink with her friends in the evening which was great. Before our departure she warned us of the coming Taifun which helped us tremendously because noone informed us of it before! The guesthouse is very clean and our japanese style room was really spacious. Would definetly recommend, especially for couples! Thanks a lot Yoko!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Guesthouse was awesome...veryyyyy spacious bed like for two even if it was bunk bed but this was another kind like level
Cons: I didn't like that I can't stay longer :(
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thanks Yoko san for her hospitality, my parents and i had an unforgettable stay here. We not only tried the tatami and the traditional japanese house, but also chatted together with her friends, which let us know more about japanese people and life. From this point of view , the experience is far more valued than we paid for the stay.
Cons: none.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yoko was an incredibly friendly and personable host. Her place is clean and comfortable. Like staying with a good friend, you feel right at home. Her place is really well-located and within walking distance to the subway/train station. Would definitely stay with her again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect! Yoko, the owner, is such a generous person and very friendly. Her guest house is a typical japanese style place, very beautiful, comfortable and cute. I definitely recommend!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: the guesthouse is nice, but what really makes the difference is the host, Yoko! She is extremely nice and helpful, always ready to give you recommendations on where to go and to make you feel at home! She gave some amazing jam for breakfast! We stayed in the twin room, which was nice even if the bed did not have bed sheets, just a slim matress (over the main mattress) and douvet (and I don't find those japanese mattresses very comfortable). Bathroom is shared between all guests, but it is always clean.
Cons: Slightly pricey considering you have to share the bathroom, but Yoko makes it worth it! She is the best host we had in Japan!

Cons: Our stay was too short, didn’t want to leave
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful retreat in the primeval forest of Nara. Amazing dinners and excellent hospitality.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really traditional and beautiful
Cons: Staff don’t speak English that well
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing Japanese dinner. Warm and welcoming staff. City taxi cancelled our pick-up in the last minute and hotel staff took us to the trains station so that we don't miss our departure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location.... we walked up to Tsukihitei from Nara Park, a little distance but very do-able without bags (we had forward on to our next location so only had daypacks). Take time to have the bath, very relaxing. The food is incredible, somewhat challenging for the kids (little whole sardines) but go ahead and try it all, there is so much for dinner we couldn't give the breakfast the respect it deserved.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love this hotel so much. It’s very tradition at the same time very caring. Staffs are good and polite. It’s good to have them to serve us. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and beautiful too. Like this place so much!
Cons: There was a big spider came into our room (which has been mentioned in the living guide that some insects may come in as the hotel is located in a forest). Anyway the spider was so scary and leave quickly. Then we had a very nice night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Authentic and traditional ryokan, unforgettable experience experience.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s a charming ryokan in the wonderful forest, with the river running near your window and a perfect location for exploring the parks and shrines by feet. Excellent cuisine. Very welcoming staff. They also organized a wonderful in-room massage for us.
Cons: It’s a bit dated, but that can be said about most of the ryokans.

7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful room with outlook onto garden courtyard.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Centre of town can be reached in a couple of minutes. Very friendly owners (who gave us great ideas for lunch and dinner in the surroundings); old, traditional Japanese house (ex-calligraphy school). Large (and quite beautiful, especially the one downstairs) rooms.
Cons: Really a "youthhostel" feeling, which somehow surprised us. List of rules (incl. switch-off of electricity at 11:00 p.m.!) that you are explicitly and upon arrival made to read, incl. that you are to unmake your bed and bring down sheets and everything upon departure. Besides tea and water, you have to pay extra for anything that you desire (incl. extra towel, bicycle). No jakuta (in-house "kimono") provided. Your room will not be entered during your stay, for the better and the worse of it.
10.0 Excellent

9.0 Excellent
Pros: mostly excellent. great facilities in room (workable desk, electric kettle, hair dryer, yukata(!), selectable pillow, usb charger outlet on the bed side, phone charger adapter, ...) and hotel (particularly the hot bath. ahhh, how i enjoyed that each and every night. well, almost. it requires an access code, and i was out all day one day and missed to pick the code before reception closed.). breakfast was fine, including both continental european and japanese style food. nice view from the breakfast room.
Cons: quite small room (i missed a place to store my suitcase) and tiny bath room. milk glass window (ie no view), which could only be opened a crack, so "fresh" air limited to air conditioning.

7.0 Good

Pros: Little things can make a big difference. Like the handwritten welcoming note from the staff, which was hugely appreciated. 6.3 Good
Pros: Location ideal for Nara station.
Cons: Quite basic facilities. Very much a business hotel with little extra to offer. Very strict on check in time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This has been our favorite hotel of the trip to Japan. The location cannot be beat. It is literally adjacent to the JR train station and bus station. We stayed in a Japanese style room and it was perfect. The beds were very comfortable, the room was small but well appointed, the automatic blinds were great, and the shower was amazing. The breakfast was a Japanese style and was wonderful. The staff could not have been more accommodating. We wished we were staying longer in Nara just so we could stay at this hotel longer. Love it.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location can't be beat, you can literally see the entrance from Nara station and it's a two minute walk away. The staff are so incredibly nice and the rooms are very nice and clean (though a bit small unless you upgrade). The shower "room" is a real treat and the hotel is close to an amazing grocery store (KOHYO) and only a block from the main shopping area which leads right to the Tōfuku-ji and the Tōdai-ji. Other hotels might be "closer to the action" but when traveling I think it's worth more to be closer to the train station.
Cons: First room was rather small but we got an upgrade due to a clerical error and the upgraded room was very nice. The curtains are remote controlled but they're rather slow and not precise every time—having a manual system would be nicer and faster.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the room is so clean and neat, love the shower room you should try too
Cons: everything is so good and perfect especially price
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean room
Cons: A little expensive

Pros: Hotel is modern, beautifully appointed, well lit, with nice views and is 1 minute from Nara’s train station. The breakfast, (given our western tastes), was the best we’ve had in Japan. The staff was kind and helpful.
Cons: It is far, (30 minute walk) from the historic sites.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great right next to the Nara station! The staff is amazing! We loved the experience, we’ll be back!
Cons: Nothing, it was Perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is the best hotel we have stayed in for all our travels to Japan. If you're looking for a hotel close to the station, this is the one for you. Located a stone's throw away from JR Nara station as well as a 10 minute walk to a shopping district and a 15-20 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride to Nara Park, Piazza Hotel is close to everything you need to see in Nara. Downtown Nara gets pretty quiet at night, so if you're looking for a reprieve from city life, but don't want to go to the mountains, this place is a good compromise. The staff is very friendly and the front desk has at least one person who can speak English. When booking, I recommend getting a corner room as they are bigger. The view of the city and Mount Wakakusa is pretty and can be enjoyed through floor to ceiling windows. The room size is bigger than most you'd find in the city, like Tokyo, but about the same size as you'd find in Osaka. The hotel itself is modern and very clean. It is one of the only hotels in Japan that I recommend using their tub for a bath as it is that clean. There is no mildew anywhere, which is a difficult feat with all the humidity. The breakfast served Japanese small dishes, as well as cereal and toast. Coffee and tea are also available. The food is ok, so if you don't include it in your booking and want to eat elsewhere, you're not missing much. That said, if you do want to try standard "kaiseki" dishes for breakfast, you can do so. There is also a convenience store below and attached to the hotel, so if you need a snack or anything, you can just go downstairs. I highly recommend this place, especially to travellers who want to do Nara when they first arrive and are very jetlagged. It's a great place to relax and if I had known how amazing this hotel is, I definitely would have booked a longer stay.
Cons: I loved everything!
6.7 Good
Pros: The food was good. The lady working the breakfast was very good.
Cons: Limited by comparison to other local hotels like the Century

Pros: The staff were so friendly and made us feel like The Deer Park Inn was our home. We loved the communal space where we could have our dinner and the fact our room overlooked the deer park so we woke up to beautiful views and nature sounds. The perfect countryside retreat!
Cons: Nothing. Our stay was exceptional.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location at low cost.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location in the middle of the park is fantastic! It is very quiet. I had a big comfortable room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful stay and would fully recommend this accomodation!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was cute clean and cozy. The inn is right in the park that I felt the price was too low for how amazing the location was, as deer walked in my window view often. I am fortunate the price was so low as a student I don't know if I'd be able to afford what the room was worth to me.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: You can see the deers from the window of your room
Cons: It is a bit far than the road that Google maps shows
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Deer Park Inn is in the center of Nara park. If you OK with staying in hostles this is the place! The staff was great and the host Taka gave me a few tips in local activities. He told me about local traditional festival in a near temple and I thank him for this experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The caretakers where very friendly and helpful. Nice beds and pillows. Fantastic location if you don't feel the need to be near the station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The inn was located right in the park, so everything was in walking distance.
Cons: Because the inn is so far into the park it is hard to find a place to eat after dark.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is lovely, right inside the Nara park and next to some hills. The place is really clean, and the racks (i stayed in a shared room of 4) are spacious and confortable. The bathrooms are very clean as well, not cramped. I highly recommend the plce to anyone.
Cons: One thing I liked about it is that is away from the ceter area and right inside the park, as a result it is quite. Walk from the JR nara station, although a bit closer to the other station in Nara. I did not mind the walk there, but I was carrying a light backpack, so I throughly enjoyed my walk there, but for people carring big and heavy suitcases u might need a cab. Everything in the area closes around 5, so if u want food at night, u need to go to the center to find some. Other than that, if u like green and waking up and seeing first wild deer in the morning, this is the place for u.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location! Its in the middle of the action, next to the biggest temple.
Cons: Maybe the noise. Old wooden charming floors crack a bit. But that is also something charming!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cosy little inn right in the Nara park, comfortable rooms and great views.

Pros: The rooms were great and the staff were soooo friendly. The roof view from the terrace was lovely
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and spacious room with quality toiletries - we were in the triple room with beds and private external bath. Food is excellent and a highly recommended part of the experience. Bonuses from hotel includes welcome tea, deer biscuits and a free photo as memorabilia.
Cons: On a very hot day, the place is a bit far to walk to/from the Kintetsu station. Because of the heat, we did not utilise the private outdoor bath.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location!
Cons: Too bad there wasn’t a shuttle van to the train station. We had 7 in our group and we had to take 3 taxis to and from the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were incredible - never felt so warmly welcomed as a female solo traveller. The facilities were brilliant as there is a onsen and sky view balcony . The bedroom was a great traditional experience . The little details across the hotel influenced by Nara’s deer were a really sweet touch to the place. Location was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. The onsen was relaxing and tattoo friendly. They even arranged a free guide for me to tour Nara, and gave me cookies to feed the sacred deer.
Cons: I wish I stayed longer :)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Reasonable price.

Cons: Very nice

Pros: The view from our bath outside was perfect. The onsen were great. The kaiseki meal was great. We loved this place.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and comfortable and there was a lovely common reception area for a drink or to read. Dining rooms were also lovely and the food was delicious.
Cons: The private tub was not very private unless you pulled over a large curtain on the balcony.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Spacious and clean Japanese room. Great onsen. Free water and coffee. Good Japanese breakfast in a private room. Very welcoming staff.

Pros: Extremely helpful host: he helped is with buying airport tickets and even brought us to the stop at 5.40 am: far above expectation. We even got delicious sandwiches for on the way. Comfortable futons. Lovely breakfast.
Cons: The lovely sliding doors/windows might be noisy during windy/rainy nights.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality of the host, authenticity of the house, extensive breakfast with plenty of choice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was amazing and homemade, the staff was really nice and friendly, a true Japanese guesthouse there was the air conditioner and television in the room
4.2 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was really delicious and the owner was trying really hard and was nice.
Cons: The room was so small and sinister, especially for the amount of money we paid. Also, the sink was out in the hallway and it was only one sink and one toilet and shower to be shared with all the guests. It seems like the other room was much larger and much more comfortable and we deduced that it was the same price as ours. There were no pictures of the room on booking so we did not know what to expect and would have never booked if we had known. Terrible room!!!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely host who welcomed us with a refreshing drink and a piece of cake. The Japanese breakfast that's included in the stay was also very yummy. We enjoyed our 2 days/nights in Nara a lot and would have stayed longer have we had the time!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm hospitality, welcoming treat and a fantastic homemade breakfast Japanese or Western. A lovely hostess with a motherly attitude..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved staying here, everything was perfect. As soon as I arrived, the owner had a piece of cake ready for me! It was delicious. She was very sweet and showed me a map of Nara and gave me all the information I needed about the area. I chose to have both breakfast and dinner at Hotobil and I was not disappointed! The food was so tasty, especially the beef curry
Cons: Nothing. I just wish I could have stayed longer!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is among the best we had in the entire Japan trip - I would fully recommend staying there just for the sake of eating there.
Cons: A little bit out of the way. Need to take a bus to / from the station and Nara Park.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location, walking distance to Nara Park. Very kind staffs, beautiful welcome cake and traditional Japanese breakfast. We felt like home after a long day walk.

6.7 Good
Pros: The location and cleanliness.
Cons: Lot's of light in the room. Very small and the pictures don't correspond to the ones on the website. Room was divided in two with a wooden wall and had a family of five staying next door. Lot's of noise...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, clean and friendly. Close to Nara main sightseeing’s. The host are very nice. We had the room with balcony, it was calm and clean.
Cons: A bit far from the train station while walking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely front bar area, good little kitchen area, bathrooms a nice size. The courtyard garden is very lovely. It is an older house but that’s what makes the area so nice and gives it some character. It is a bit noisy because of this so if you sleep lightly wear earplugs. Great places to eat close by and lots of nice shops along the same street.
Cons: Maybe if the bunk bed curtains went all the way to stop light from others beds coming in as much.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A lovely, cozy guest house. Cheap and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The traditional Japanese style house was extremely well-maintained. Our room was spacious and the balcony gave us a beautiful view of the neighborhood street; the futon beds were very comfortable as well. The breakfast was delicious and they have a nice selection of books in the kitchen/bar area for you. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay! If you are looking to avoid the tourists in Nara Park, the neighborhood has cute shops, cafes, and restaurants scattered about (and deer).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Cute little place to stay. Feels very homely. Has a nice bar where you can have a sake tasting. Great staff and good location. Great breakfast.
Cons: You need to pay extra to for everything, towels, breakfast and bikes were not included. Roomrate was cheap though and costs are not excessive. Breakfast is defs worth the 600 yen
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very very friendly hosts with a perfectly clean accommodation! The location was perfect as well. We felt so comfortable and welcome it was an amazing stay and we will definitely come back!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A super friendly guesthouse, perfect location in a cute neighbourhood. Room was good size and very clean. Also more quiet than I’d expected considering it’s in a japanese house.
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really nice, clean and welcoming.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and helpful and made some great suggestions for places to eat. I liked the small lamp and cute touches. Breakfast was good too.
Cons: I did not realise the room we booked didnt have a window- was a bit stuffy for summer nights. Was good to have an AC in there!

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, express check-in, and express check-out. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Did not purchase breakfast. The hotel and restaurants were too expensive for a business traveler. The hotel staff and rooms were excellent, though. I would consider staying there again if business was paying for it.
Cons: Just the cost.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: The history and outside grandeur of the building.
Cons: The room was well below standard in every way. Lighting, peeling ceiling, bar fridge not stocked and chocked up on a piece of wood so the door closed. The bed was pushed against a wall so that access from the side was not possible and thus no bedside table / reading light. No bathing facilities unlike every other (less expensive and better appointed) hotel we stayed at in Japan. We were given a discount voucher for the bar and then told when paying it couldn’t be used as it was happy hour! No mention of this restriction anywhere. In all very overrated and underwhelming stay. Save your money and go elsewhere.
5.0 Okay
Pros: It was in a good location near the train stations and local attractions.
Cons: The staff were not helpful at all. They Showed no interest in us as foreign guest that could only speak English. We arrived at the hotel without a reservation and they tried to give us the most expensive room in the hotel for ¥55 000 per night. When we told them about much cheaper options on booking.com they made us do a booking on the platform and told us to wait for 40 minutes till they receive the booking. This was at 19:00 in the evening. They didn’t explain anything about where we could have dinner or breakfast the next morning. The hotel is an old dilapidated hotel with no charm that once offered true glamour to its guest. It is currently under refurbishment and therefore large parts of the hotel is unaccessible. We stay in the new wing which offered nothing ‘new’ of special except a good size room for Japan.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, super friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Old world charm, lovely room , great location and shuttle bus to stations
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, clean, friendly, great location.
Cons: All good!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice historic hotel with lots of charm close to Nara park. Free shuttle to and from the train station. A la carte breakfast with table service. Excellent service and very nice staff.
Cons: The bathroom was rather small with very little space to put things.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Not at all at a normal standard
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location of the hotel is perfect just next to the park of Nara which is very convenient. The hotel and room has an old style feeling which is charming.
Cons: The windows weren't soundproofed enough so I could hear the loud noise of the cars on the road just under the windows, which was very annoying, and the walls were so thick that I could hear the television and the people speaking in the room next door.

7.0 Good
Pros: Fantastic location, very helpful staff, tiny room but we had booked the cheapest option, knowing it was v small so this was no issue for us, good bathroom, bonus to have a kitchen to use and to be able to rent bikes. Excellent price for the cheapest rooms!
Cons: Futon was the thinnest we have used in Japan... very uncomfortable! Earplugs are recommended as the walls between rooms were very thin and eyemask recommended as there was a bright light right outside our window.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location near the conference center.
Cons: There were lots of stains and the bedskirts were really filthy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great. Clean, comfortable, spacious. Amazing location. Bathrooms and rooms super nice and super clean. What a nice place
Cons: The beds are pretty thin, and the pillows also
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. I have been already here two times. Bike rent available to discover the city
6.7 Good
Pros: - right at the entrance of Nara park and close to living areas (station, shops, restaurants) - large room —> great for a 1 night stay in Nara, but not more
Cons: - old hotel that needs some global refurbishing - no windows in the room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The place was quiet. 3-5 minutes from the Nara Park. In the morning deer were walking right past the hotel. The stuff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: The smell in the room.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good location near the Nara park and close to the city centre. Clean rooms.
Cons: Really thin paper walls - you can hear almost everything from the other rooms on the floor. Toilette, shower (one men and one women) and kitchen was shared for the whole floor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Top position and staff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Good room, close to the city centre. Will be staying again!
Cons: If being really picky, I would say that absence of a kettle in the room was a little issue for us, although you can use a kettle in the communal room. Also check out by 10am was an hour earlier than most of the other hotels around.
7.5 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, very helpful with good advices
Cons: Futon actually a bit thin.

Pros: Nice location, friendly staff, great little café/noodlebar just across the street
Cons: Beds not very comfortable, carpet on the floors, a bit too expensive
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Only negative was no elevator.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and ambience if the property. Staff were very polite and helpful
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good value for economy-minded families. Staff were very kind and helpful.
Cons: Location a little bit away from the main attractions of Nara. Designed for Japanese-speakers. Many things were not translated into English (or any other language). But we could figure things out, thanks to English skills of friendly staff.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was a very nice experience. They provided us with anything we needed. The rooms were very clean. The location is perfect, near the beautiful Nara park. There is also a very small public bath with one mini bath tub. (It is not an Onsen,so don’t get confused! ) I recommend to rent a bike next to the station and move around with it, Nara is a paradise!
7.5 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel.
Cons: No lift for transportation.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Not much, run down, but good size room. On circular bus route.
Cons: Long way from restaurants. Very Japanese breakfast, nothing at all western available, no eggs.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location of hotel is right by bus stop. I thought it was closer to the park but when you realise the size of the park it is a fair walk to explore on foot. the bus works fine though.
Cons: Nice clean room but very stark (with woodchip papered walls painted white some time ago) no ambience or comfort Staff very friendly and helpful but not strong in English Breakfast is Japanese style, cant even get a slice of bread I booked through Booking.com and when we were there we found several 5 star hotels, with vacancies that I could have got for the same price. By comparison this hotel is very mediocre. I was very disappointed that the web site threw this hotel up and a load of 2 star Ryoken's with shared facilities when there were lots of much better hotels available that we would have felt were better value for money. I will be more wary when using Booking.com in future
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nothing special.
Cons: No western breakfast at all, all Japanese ingredients.
