9.6 Excellent
Pros: A little gem! Yoko is the nicest host! Trust the comments - if you want a once in a lifetime experience in a guesthouse in Japan, stay here. The double bedroom was really nice too, plenty of space. Location is perfect - bike rental 1 min from the house and close to main points. I can’t recommend it enough!!!
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had such a great stay here! The facilities were nice and comfortable. It was very fun sleeping on futon mattresses on traditional tatami floor for us. The host, Yoko, was amazing and extremely nice and accommodating; she made us feel very much at home. We had such a great time talking with her. This stay will be a very special memory and one of the biggest highlights of our trip
Cons: It was a little bit of a walk from the station, though the location was still nice and in a quiet neighborhood. We were able to walk to all the major sightseeing spots from the guest house so having to walk a little further initially was well worth the location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything! Amazing host and nice space!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time at the guest house. Yoko is a very kind host and helped us a lot during our stay. She even invited us too have a drink with her friends in the evening which was great. Before our departure she warned us of the coming Taifun which helped us tremendously because noone informed us of it before! The guesthouse is very clean and our japanese style room was really spacious. Would definetly recommend, especially for couples! Thanks a lot Yoko!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thanks Yoko san for her hospitality, my parents and i had an unforgettable stay here. We not only tried the tatami and the traditional japanese house, but also chatted together with her friends, which let us know more about japanese people and life. From this point of view , the experience is far more valued than we paid for the stay.
Cons: none.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yoko was an incredibly friendly and personable host. Her place is clean and comfortable. Like staying with a good friend, you feel right at home. Her place is really well-located and within walking distance to the subway/train station. Would definitely stay with her again!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Most amazing experience for our entire trip in Japan The place is magical, the people is incredibly kind. It has been a dream come true
Cons: Our stay was too short, didn’t want to leave
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful retreat in the primeval forest of Nara. Amazing dinners and excellent hospitality.
Cons: A bit more English proficiency would be nice, and a few less bugs who found their way in from the forest.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really traditional and beautiful
Cons: Staff don’t speak English that well
6.3 Good
Pros: The property is located in a conserved forest, peaceful, secluded, natural, mystical, gloomy; a ghastly place walking around and sleeping during the night. The building is original, a typical old Japanese house, it was an unforgetable experience. The private dining room is great, with relax, quiet forest view, the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was great and delicious, the room service was excellent (Special thank to Maiko San, a friendly, cordial and smiling person.) The Onsen was great.
Cons: Certain part of the building needs maintenance and refurbishment, however, the place is generally clean enough. The reception was not good at the beginning; no body helped us for the luggage, and upon our earlier arrival at about 3 pm, we were told to go around and return back at 4, (there were nothing around but the forest! and we were tired after the long journey), only under our request and complain, we were allowed to sit in the waiting room and check-in earlier at 3:30 pm, and the service was much improved later.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Can’t say enough about the gorgeous location. The forest was breathtaking. The staff we really nice and helpful, and the kitchen did a fantastic job accommodating my vegan diet. Such a great experience!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was amazing. Room v nice and traditional. Evening meal v extensive and interesting.
Cons: Hand drier in the bathroom
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It’s a charming ryokan in the wonderful forest, with the river running near your window and a perfect location for exploring the parks and shrines by feet. Excellent cuisine. Very welcoming staff. They also organized a wonderful in-room massage for us.
Cons: It’s a bit dated, but that can be said about most of the ryokans.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The guesthouse is an old house located few minutes by foot from the Nara park, separated from a busy street by a small garden. We had the room facing the garden/street, there wasn't really much street noise. There's everything one could need in the kitchen, the common room is comfortably and spacious. Everything was clean. Japanese breakfast as well as the Western style one were abundant and excellent.
Cons: The net in the window was broken – so fresh air comes with mosquitoes (but there's an insecticide killer available).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: traditional Japanese house, with a wonderful yard, the host cooked breakfast in front of you, it feels like staying at home and watch your family cooking. nice and kind host, help me to translate the Japanese divination, haha

Kotonoyado Musashino - Nara - Building
5
9.2 Excellent (342 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Koto-no-yado Musashino in Nara, you'll be within a 15-minute walk of Kasuga Shrine and Nara Park. This 4-star ryokan is 1 mi (1.6 km) from Nara National Museum and 1.3 mi (2.1 km) from Kofuku-ji Shrine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Attentive staff, 11 course evening meal, opportunity to dress up in a kimono, relaxing Japanese bath, toilet and sink in room, very comfy futon bedding. Staff able to accommodate dietary requirements. Lovely location in Nara park.
7.5 Good
Pros: We loved the hotel but felt for the price a private bathroom should have been included.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is just perfect! The second you step out from the ryokan, you have this hill of deer before you and shops to your left and right. The ryokan is located in the park and is surrounded by trees and countless places to wander off and explore. The room was large, larger than we needed probably, and so relaxing to come back to after walking for the entire day.
Cons: The curfew was 11, which isn't bad at all but worth noting. Nara didn't seem to have much of a night life so this didn't impact us much honestly. By the time we returned to the ryokan though, the onsen was closed so we did miss out on spending time in there which was a shame. I believe it closed at 10 so don't miss out!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Traditional ryokan with very good position into the Nara Park, great courtesy of the staff, free bicycle rental, wonderful dinners/breakfasts
Cons: Very expensive, not excellent quality of the building (no curtains for light in the morning, continuous slamming doors due to the wind in the night), only 5 channel on TV
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The staff. The food. The location to the temples. The decor. It was amazing. Great value. My best stay in Japan thus far. Could not recommend more highly.

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Limited parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Beautiful room with outlook onto garden courtyard.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Centre of town can be reached in a couple of minutes. Very friendly owners (who gave us great ideas for lunch and dinner in the surroundings); old, traditional Japanese house (ex-calligraphy school). Large (and quite beautiful, especially the one downstairs) rooms.
Cons: Really a "youthhostel" feeling, which somehow surprised us. List of rules (incl. switch-off of electricity at 11:00 p.m.!) that you are explicitly and upon arrival made to read, incl. that you are to unmake your bed and bring down sheets and everything upon departure. Besides tea and water, you have to pay extra for anything that you desire (incl. extra towel, bicycle). No jakuta (in-house "kimono") provided. Your room will not be entered during your stay, for the better and the worse of it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beautiful home and the lovely helpful hosts.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I think the location is great since the restaurant around 10 mins and the supermarket around 5 mins. The bus station is pretty close, like 1 min walk. However, everything in Nara close around 9 pm or early, so if you wanna hang out at night, be sure you arrive as early as possible. If you are go with older/inconvenience people, please remember contact house owner at first. There is a room at first floor, but most of them are in second floor (no elevator but stairs)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The people were really nice and spoke very good English.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were amazing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful and cozy place with a very personal touch. The owners, Kumiko and Shunju, were super friendly and very helpful. The centre of Nara is easily reached on foot. All in all, would wholeheartedly recommend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very lovely and traditional guesthouse near the station. It is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. The owners are very lovely and always helpful. They‘ll give you information about all the showplaces around the area. You feel very welcome. In the living room is a place to eat and there is coffee and tea for free. This traditional guesthouse shows you a bit of the good old Japanese style. Very nice!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous house with a rich history, nice owners, has everything you may need.
Cons: Not a fan of late check in times in Japan. 4pm - 10am is too little for a house like that, so be sure to stay at least two nights.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean place in good location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They recommended great places to eat
Cons: the pastries in the morning can be better ;)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: More like a hotel than a hostel. We used a private room. Very nice staff, they all speak English and try to answer all your questions. You can rent bikes, and they let you leave your bags there before and after your check in-out time. We wished we had stayed longer.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: close to park with temples etc
Cons: was a long walk from jr station
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is in an ideal location, just next to a regional train station, lots of buses, and about 15 mins walk from the JR station. Most sites are in walking distance as well as a supermarket. The staff were all helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of hot water and a mini-fridge. The lobby provides free coffee and tea and the use of a microwave. There are two washing machines for use of the guests and they were easy to use (soap for sale at the desk). Price for an ensuite twin was a good bargain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room has got a private bathroom and a espace to dry your clothes.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was extremely friendly. While we were filling in a digital form, the receptionist brought our (heavy) suitcases up the stairs to our room. He even informed us in detail the must see of Nara and restaurants he personally likes. Amazing service. Room was perfect and clean. We had a Japanese style room and we both really loved it. The upper bed is a little hard for me, but the bottom bed was so comfy. Bathroom was clean and new. All those manga at the entrance is amazing

Pros: Staff were very nice. Helpful with directions, recommendations and let us stow our bags with them after checking out while we went sightseeing. Location a short 5 min walk from JR Station.
Cons: Roll down “blind” that is provided for privacy between toilet and sleeping area is cumbersome.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice place in convenient location. Rooms are very small but clean, and staff very friendly and helpful. It was very nice to have a small kitchen, fridge and meal area downstairs in the common area within the reception room.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was basic but really good. Fantastic location.
Cons: Showers that are in the main dining area felt strange.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, friendly staff, nice space, good breakfast.
Cons: Power sockets.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The room is large
Cons: We ordered B&B but actually no breakfast. We went to the breakfast early in the morning and even in this time the fridge was almost empty. We did not eat in the hostel and ate in the nearest supermarket. All rooms, bath, toilet and lobby on the same open space and every time somebody seats in the lobby. It does not looks like hostel but like dormitory. You do not feel comfortable, differ from other hostels with shared bath.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location, a variety of drinks is provided. Towels provided and beds made. Lots of information for travelling in a cosy living area.
Cons: The shelf above my pillow fell down and when I notified the staff, they did not seem to care if it hit their guest or bother to find out how it detached and simply said I could either fix it back myself or whatever. (The screws were loose and it was not really an option). It could have been a hazard as the shelf was not light. The sole electric socket was located on the lamp and inconvenient to use.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the breakfast is good, the location is great, the staff is really accommodating and friendly,I have a great stay here, and soon I definitely come back here
Cons: NothingI
7.5 Good

9.6 Excellent
Pros: This place was so nice and stylish! Very good location, easy to get to a bus and find food. Staff were so amazing and helpful! The breakfast was insane! Best I've had at a hostel; there was a big variety compared to the normal toast and egg. Highly recommend. =)

9.0 Excellent
Pros: All the bathroom Luxury products ( high end products). Stuff are friendly and welcome. They hot spring is pretty good, however, I can't use it since you have to be naked in the hot spring, you can wear any swimming suit. I would love to be in hot springs, but I cannot since it is a public hot spring, so everyone will see each other. Don't worry, Male and female are in a separate room. Got a free tour to walk around the Nara. The tour lady is so nice and friendly. She gave us all the information and took us wherever we would like to see.
Cons: I cannot be in hot spring with swimming suit. I would love to sit in the hot spring yet, I can't experiencing it as I didn't want to be naked in public bath.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were great and the staff were soooo friendly. The roof view from the terrace was lovely
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and spacious room with quality toiletries - we were in the triple room with beds and private external bath. Food is excellent and a highly recommended part of the experience. Bonuses from hotel includes welcome tea, deer biscuits and a free photo as memorabilia.
Cons: On a very hot day, the place is a bit far to walk to/from the Kintetsu station. Because of the heat, we did not utilise the private outdoor bath.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were kind and helpful. The room was wonderful, with big tatami mats, a spacious bathroom, big bathtub, fancy toilet, and even a massage chair. I loved the Kaiseki food. Cons: The dog scared me XD
9.2 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was amazing and homemade, the staff was really nice and friendly, a true Japanese guesthouse there was the air conditioner and television in the room
4.2 Okay
Pros: The breakfast was really delicious and the owner was trying really hard and was nice.
Cons: The room was so small and sinister, especially for the amount of money we paid. Also, the sink was out in the hallway and it was only one sink and one toilet and shower to be shared with all the guests. It seems like the other room was much larger and much more comfortable and we deduced that it was the same price as ours. There were no pictures of the room on booking so we did not know what to expect and would have never booked if we had known. Terrible room!!!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely host who welcomed us with a refreshing drink and a piece of cake. The Japanese breakfast that's included in the stay was also very yummy. We enjoyed our 2 days/nights in Nara a lot and would have stayed longer have we had the time!

She was very sweet and showed me a map of Nara and gave me all the information I needed about the area. I chose to have both breakfast and dinner at Hotobil and I was not disappointed! The food was so tasty, especially the beef curry
Cons: Nothing. I just wish I could have stayed longer!

Pros: The staff were so friendly and made us feel like The Deer Park Inn was our home. We loved the communal space where we could have our dinner and the fact our room overlooked the deer park so we woke up to beautiful views and nature sounds. The perfect countryside retreat!
Cons: Nothing. Our stay was exceptional.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location in the middle of the park is fantastic! It is very quiet. I had a big comfortable room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful stay and would fully recommend this accomodation!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Deer Park Inn is in the center of Nara park. If you OK with staying in hostles this is the place! The staff was great and the host Taka gave me a few tips in local activities. He told me about local traditional festival in a near temple and I thank him for this experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is lovely, right inside the Nara park and next to some hills. The place is really clean, and the racks (i stayed in a shared room of 4) are spacious and confortable. The bathrooms are very clean as well, not cramped. I highly recommend the plce to anyone.
Cons: One thing I liked about it is that is away from the ceter area and right inside the park, as a result it is quite. Walk from the JR nara station, although a bit closer to the other station in Nara. I did not mind the walk there, but I was carrying a light backpack, so I throughly enjoyed my walk there, but for people carring big and heavy suitcases u might need a cab. Everything in the area closes around 5, so if u want food at night, u need to go to the center to find some. Other than that, if u like green and waking up and seeing first wild deer in the morning, this is the place for u.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location! Its in the middle of the action, next to the biggest temple.
Cons: Maybe the noise. Old wooden charming floors crack a bit. But that is also something charming!
7.0 Good
Pros: Located in the park. Location is nice if you travel with kids.
Cons: Rooms need renovation. Windows are so old, wind makes a lot of noise..

Pros: Very old Japanese house so it feels very authentic. Size of the room threw me off at first, but still very comfortable to stay in. Staff were super helpful and it helps that they run a cafe/bar on site so you can grab something to eat and drink. They also have a kitchen you can use and store your food in. WiFi was great and surrounding area too, plenty to eat, see and do. Nara Park is ridiculously close, 10 minute walk.

Pros: Cute little place to stay. Feels very homely. Has a nice bar where you can have a sake tasting. Great staff and good location. Great breakfast.
Cons: You need to pay extra to for everything, towels, breakfast and bikes were not included. Roomrate was cheap though and costs are not excessive. Breakfast is defs worth the 600 yen

Pros: You cannot beat the location of the Nara Hotel. It's perfect for those wanting to see the main sights of the city. The staff are very attentive and helpful.
Cons: On the morning we checked out, they didn't seem overly thrilled to store our three suitcases for us while we did a final visit to the park before our departure.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Located in a park.on a hill. Great feeling
Cons: Rooms way below expectations Breakfast not included for a 400€ per night mediocre room Hotel has had it glory days but those are long behind us and hotel needs a serious refurbishing The only positive is the quality of the staff and the level of service which is in line with best in class Japanese experience

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old hotel with serene ambiance and delightful common areas. We loved the grand old staircases, high ceilings and historical photographs. The staff was extremely helpful even though English was an issue. We rented the hotel bikes, excellent!
Cons: Bathrooms very small and outdated, breakfast very expensive
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Old world charm , very traditional. Rooms in main building recently upgraded but kept the original ambience.
Cons: The experience of a Japanese style hotel with all it’s grandeur, very close to park and temples.
5.0 Okay
Pros: It is in a great location and the environment around the hotel is pretty good.
Cons: The hotel is too old and the floor is giving off a bad odor. It is very damp inside of the room and not very comfortable for staying inside. The hotel was aware of it since they put a spray for odor in the closet. Hopi they could take care of the carpet to reduce the smell instead of providing a spray.

Pros: Location and ambience if the property. Staff were very polite and helpful
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good value for economy-minded families. Staff were very kind and helpful.
Cons: Location a little bit away from the main attractions of Nara. Designed for Japanese-speakers. Many things were not translated into English (or any other language). But we could figure things out, thanks to English skills of friendly staff.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was a very nice experience. They provided us with anything we needed. The rooms were very clean. The location is perfect, near the beautiful Nara park. There is also a very small public bath with one mini bath tub. (It is not an Onsen,so don’t get confused! ) I recommend to rent a bike next to the station and move around with it, Nara is a paradise!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Not much, run down, but good size room. On circular bus route.
Cons: Long way from restaurants. Very Japanese breakfast, nothing at all western available, no eggs.
6.7 Good
Pros: Location of hotel is right by bus stop. I thought it was closer to the park but when you realise the size of the park it is a fair walk to explore on foot. the bus works fine though.
Cons: Nice clean room but very stark (with woodchip papered walls painted white some time ago) no ambience or comfort Staff very friendly and helpful but not strong in English Breakfast is Japanese style, cant even get a slice of bread I booked through Booking.com and when we were there we found several 5 star hotels, with vacancies that I could have got for the same price. By comparison this hotel is very mediocre. I was very disappointed that the web site threw this hotel up and a load of 2 star Ryoken's with shared facilities when there were lots of much better hotels available that we would have felt were better value for money. I will be more wary when using Booking.com in future
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nothing special.
Cons: No western breakfast at all, all Japanese ingredients.
