Cons: The furniture in the room was so stylish that it was sometimes impracticable. The surfaces were matt, and thus showed every bump, scratch etc. so as to appear not very clean. The restaurant was perfectly shiny, though.

I extended my stay there for a further 2 nights as plans to travel further east up the coast were thwarted by unstable weather- I was upgraded to a suite! The rooms were enormous and I enjoyed a rainy afternoon in an enormous reading chair in the library relaxing. The beds are also extremely comfortable

Cons: You are not given a key to the outside of the property which can make your comings and goings less private. Carrasco is 30mins outside of the old city- a taxi costs £10-15 (US$12-15)- there are a limited number of local restaurants. The checkout is early: 10:30 but this suited me. It’s a really nice place to be if you are in Montevideo at the weekend as hotel locations in the old town are much less appealing- everything is shut down and decidedly dodgy with some aggressive begging. Carrasco is a world away from this

Cons: Everything could have been better. Dirty and uncared for, quite disgusting actually that they have the nerve to charge us!! Towels old, room had not been cleaned when we arrived and no toiletries in dirty bathroom. Poor lighting outside our kids room, security poor and dark entrance and gates remained open after dark. Light bulbs burnt out and batteries needing replacing.

Pros: The Cottage Carrasco was the last of five hotels we stayed in during our South-American trip of 18 days and it proved to be the crown jewel of them all. The staff are proficient in English, which can't be said about most Uruguayans. The hotel looks remarkably well, with an obvious attention to design and ambiance; so do the rooms, the hallways and the lobby. The breakfast area offers tremendous views over the Carrasco beach- the traffic on the rambla Mexico is unavoidable, I'm afraid. The back garden with the pool is well maintained, with fine landscaping. Breakfast itself is very good quality, catering for all tastes; we specifically appreciated the espresso machine, a feature we couldn't find in the other hotels. Our room on the third floor was a corner room, offering great views over the beach and the rambla. The Carrasco beach is right across the rambla and the restaurant street is not far away, starting at the Sofitel building- you can't miss it, it's the art nouveau striking construction! For small shopping you have the petrol station 200 .m away.

Cons: The pool is rather on the small side. Carrasco neighbourhood being posh as it is, there's not interest whatsoever for tourist entertainment: the rambla is bare, no terraces, no restaurants, not much greenery- like on all ramblas in the city. Evening life is non-existent, which is a pity from a tourist's point of view, but definitely not imputable to the hotel.

It was nice to stay in a different part of Montevideo after having spent 7 nights in the old city. Obviously quite a distance from the old city. Very good breakfast and very nice reception staff.

Cons: The place needs some maintenance. There were toilet roll holders loosely hanging off the wall and my friend got locked out of the toilet and we had to change rooms in the middle of the night. She then ate fish from the restaurant and was extremely ill for two days.

Cons: We stayed overnight due to an early flight. However we booked the same night as an entire youth soccer team. So very noisy evening. Nothing close walking distance so we had dinner at the hotel restaurant which was excellent homemade food. Just a tad pricey for two drinks two main dishes and a dessert.
