Pros: Immaculately run family owned business. Toshi was kind enough to give me a lift to nearby ski areas and dinner places and even allowed me to use the onsen after I had checked out. 10/10 would stay again.
Cons: Onsen may get a bit squeezy with more than 2-3 people.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Everything was terrific!

Pros: Was one of our best stays in Japan. Everything was more than clean, there was an Onsen and the owners did everything to make it a pleasant stay. Besides that, we highly recommend this area as a hiking area. There are great (multi-)day hikes.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: - Yoshi and his wife were very welcoming and super friendly. - Breakfast was very good and we also had dinner one night, which was exceptional. - The private onsen can be booked for your room every night, very relaxing and cute atmosphere. - You can buy tickets for the Happo-One gondola, which are somewhat cheaper than if you buy it at the tourist office. - When we left, Yoshi drove us to the train station and helped us to get the correct train reservation for our trip that day. Very friendly! - We would come back to Ringo-no Ki if we are visiting Hakuba again. Highly recommended!!

Pros: Very friendly. Good breakfast.
Cons: None
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Yoshi and Kayo were wonderful hosts. Yoshi was particularly welcoming every time we would arrive back from our day's adventures. We really felt like we were getting to know a Japanese person when chatting to Yoshi. The Pension was very warm and welcoming. The nightly onsen was lovely (specially after a days hiking) and breakfast was delicious. We also had one night where Yoshi cooked us dinner and that was also delicious.

7.5 Good
Pros: Close to the Happo Bus Station
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great for somebody without a car. They drove me from and to the train station. Once at the property, both the Gondola station and the Happo one bus terminal are in walking distance, as well as a convenience store, restaurants and a café. The on-site onsen had the perfect temperature and was great for relaxing after a day of hiking. Above all, the owner was very sweet and helpful and made sure that I had everything I needed and felt comfortable. So far the best hospitality during my stay in Japan. Would definitely stay here again :)
Cons: Nothing

This is a very traditional Japanese style inn. If you are looking for the quintessential Japanese holiday experience at a very reasonable price then this is for you. Thanks so much for a great holiday!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff and service particularly Mickey!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff hospitality was extraordinary. They bent over backwards to make your stay so memorable
Cons: Nothing. It was all great. We travel frequently & think very highly of a place with impeccable service without tipping as an undertone
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was the best we had on our trip to Japan. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, lovely flakey croissants and pastries, lots of choice for eggs. Our dinner was also fantastic. The service and attentive staff are outstanding. We've not experienced a more pleasing team anywhere in our travels. Truly amazing.
Cons: The furniture/decor in the main lobby and the rooms in the main hotel do appear a little dated, but the longer you stay the more you become accustomed to it. A decor update might be in order.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice family style hotel, with excellent service by staff speaking English. Very good support for any service related to ski (pass, rental,...). We stayed in the cottage which is nice for family though you do not have a direct access to the hotel. Food is excellent either breakfast, with a large choice as well as dinner with children menu. Well located close to the ski slopes and lifts. Surely one of the best adress in Hakuba.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: La Neige Team was one of the best ever experienced , everything smoth and polite
Cons: We were offseason and Hotel was empty so they should have honest dynamic pricing for offseason and not high season prices
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location and the outdoor bar/ dining area
Cons: The decoration style is nor to my liking - but that is personal preference
8.8 Excellent
Pros: From the second we arrived and the staff came rushing down the driveway to help us carry our snowboards and provide slippers for us to change in to from our boots, to the last day, when they fussed over our luggage and dropped us at the bus terminal, I could not fault their service. The staff really were the highlight and could not have been kinder or more helpful. There is a lovely fireplace and lounge area at reception which is perfect for relaxing after are hard day on the slopes (not not mention all the free goodies and tea/coffee that are also there for guests to enjoy). The room had two balcony’s and lovely views of the mountain and the hotel was a 5-10 Minute walk to the Sakka ski chairlift area (they will happily drop you here every morning too if you wish). It is a little bit of a walk to the main area of town but there is still a couple of food options within walking distance (and a semi regular shuttle service that leaves from out the front).
Cons: The property itself is a bit older and could do with some slight updates (particularly in the bathrooms in the rooms). It is quite expensive for what you get in regards to room (we paid $500 AUD per night) and felt rooms at other properties for that price point are slightly nicer - for example this room didn’t include any coffee making facilities)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hostel is amazing. Really confortable, clean and quiet. Toshi and Meg are super kind and knowledgeable about the area. As soon as I arrived they gave me a few maps and explain everything I could do. Both speak fluent english.
Cons: .
9.6 Excellent
Pros: friendly hosts with comfy feeling
Cons: n/a
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were so lovely and accommodating, even driving me to the supermarket so I could get food to make because I wasn't able to eat any of the food in the area. They were also great to have a chat with
Cons: The only downside was that there wasn't many people around due to my stay being at the very end of snow season, and there were no vegan restaurants around which made eating very difficult. Those were in no way a reflection of the hostel though.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners are a very generous, lovely couple. The kitchen is huge and fully equipped. There is a large shared eating area with plenty of tables/chairs. Be aware that you're not near any kind of grocery store and about 20min walk to the convenience store.
Cons: The bunk beds in the shared dormitory don't have the privacy curtains that most hostels in Japan have. The hostel is about 15min walk from the train station and the train comes very infrequently. There is a free shuttle to the gondola station, but finding the pickup location was not as easy as I expected.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The admin staff is awesome. Managed very high service quality. Location is good. Value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, or rather the family running this backpackers were super friendly and helpful. Also really good at English. Facilities are really nice and clean, location was great. Has a very homely feel
Cons: Nothing in particular
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Toshi was very helpful with information for hiking around Hakuba. Great facilities
9.2 Excellent
Pros: pros: Toshi-san is a nice host who will give you recommendation on what to do, be it hiking or swimming in the lake during Hakuba summer where most business are closed but the mountain and the lakes remain so, so pretty and wanting to be explored! Hakuba is quiet and beautiful during summer, exactly what i was looking for in this trip. and K's house provides everything you need in Hakuba--room with AC, comfy bed, fast wifi, and vending machine with beers and cold water. spacious common room too.
Cons: cons: just a bit of uphill walk from the bus stop, dark road at night time (at least during summer when i stayed here)

7.5 Good
Pros: We got upgraded to a large room for free since we were the only guests at the time. The ensuite bathroom looks very new and spacious. The western breakfast and dinner were very delicious and we'll presented.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: No bins for our rubbish.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow! This place was incredible! We thought we were booking a cute little hotel prior to our hiking trip. What we got was so much more than that! Our bed was incredibly comfy; our bathroom was impeccably clean; and the breakfast was amazing! The environment here is beautiful. So much more memorable than that, though, was our amazing host. She even offered to drive us to the trailhead and make a smaller breakfast for us on our hiking day. We were so happy that we decided to extend our stay here. Such a wonderful place. We can't wait to come back in the winter!
Cons: Nothing! It was perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very pretty and handy location. Nice breakfast and helpful staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place (we rented the cottage), beautiful location, fabulous hosts. We’re going to come back soon
Cons: Everything was just perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All was just perfect. We might have been the only guests. We very much enjoyed our time in Hakuba. Our corner room was on the second floor and was nice comfortable warm and spacious. The modern bathroom had both shower hose and fairly large bath. The quality bathroom products added special touches and were appreciated. There was also a separate area with a dinning table and two chairs in the room. The heaters were working well and kept the room nice and toasty. As we visited between seasons all in Hakuba was closed. But we are sure it's an amazing winter ski resort town. Great pension for a quiet escape and hospitable hosts. Thank you.
Cons: The only issue we had was to actually find the right pension as there is no signage in English anywhere. Maybe a good idea to put one up. One more thing to note is that a staircase is the only way to get up to the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I love the place and the cabin, so peaceful and serene. The cabin is new, has a spacious kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom everything’s neat and tidy. So comfortable for the family of 4 members, love to stay here again. Staff are friendly too !
Cons: Nothing it’s perfect !!!

Pros: Takka is the best host. It is super clean and homely. The breakfast is by far the best in town, so tasty! The location is fabulous and the value is good
Cons: Nothing to fault
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Cosy, homely feel with a wonderful welcome from the owner. Fabulous breakfast with homemade bread and a different dish each day. Fantastic to have access to a private onsen! Good value for money - even though the room felt a bit dated, it was really cosy and the beds were very comfortable. A wonderful lounge to chill out in too - we even made friends with the budgie! We would definitely stay here again.
Cons: A yukata to go to the onsen would be good. And fresh towels without having to ask for them. But generally, a wonderful place to stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pension Belnina absolutely exceeded expectations! Yutaka the lovely man that runs the beautiful accomodation, was so lovely and hospitable. My friends and I had the most wonderful stay! We will be back again and will happily pay the price!!

Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba - Hakuba - Building
9
9.1 Excellent (786 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba in Hakuba, you'll be in the mountains, steps from Hakuba Valley Ski Area and a 3-minute drive from Tsugaike Ski Resort. Featured amenities include limo/town car service, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The resort is just beautiful. We really enjoyed the onsens and the viewing rooms. The games (pool, darts, air hockey, ping pong) were great for keeping the kids entertained. There are lots of little surprises around the hotel, including popcorn, lollies, miso and thai green curry. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Everything is made really easy. The buffet breakfast was awesome.
Cons: They made it very difficult to book an early dinner at the western-style restaurant. After a day in the snow, we didn't really want to goback out for dinner every night, and after the first few nights, the children demanded something other than the (fantastic) onsite Japanese restaurant, but unless we were ordering the set menu (unsuitable for children), they wouldn't give us a booking before about 7.30, which is after our children's bedtime. However, this is my only complaint about this resort.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely beautiful! A great place to come back to after a day on the slopes. They have 4 private onsens as well as a public one. There’s darts, ice hockey, ping pong and a pool table as well as free wine, mulled wine, sake and tea/coffee. Rooms were big, clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and happy to help. If you’re sore I highly recommend a shiatsu massage in your room- heeled me a lot!!
Cons: Not near any other restaurants at night without a car or taxi to get you there unlike if you stay down near Happo
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The courtyard around the buildings was huge and well decorated. They offered free drinks till 11pm. Private onsen could be booked for free. Shuttle bus service to station and restaurants. Even took our luggage from the shuttle to reception for us. Variety of food at breakfast wasn’t bad, quality could improve a little. Staff were super nice and helpful. They gave us a gift bag that contained two Nagano prefecture apples inside! Amazing service.
Cons: Breakfast could improve slightly. A bar inside the premises would be nice too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything - it was amazing
Cons: I loved every second
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is definitely a 5 star. There’s a beautiful garden, with a picturesque View of snow capped mountains. The service is impeccable. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate you. They picked us up from the train station, the shuttle took us dinner and picked us up. Complimentary breakfast with all day wine, coffee and tea service. I loved it. Will definitely return. The property is so serene and peaceful.
7.5 Good
Pros: Rooms were spacious and well equipped. Junior suites have a log burner. Complimentary wine and food. Breakfast was good and the dining room opened up to the grounds.
Cons: Its was a little far into town but there was a shuttle bus if you wanted to venture into Happo area. No much else really its a awesome hotel
9.2 Excellent
Cons: The only downside, we stayed in March and the Japanese restaurant was closed. The other one is clearly poor quality with frozen pizza, normal pasta and no other options than poor western food.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel exceeded my expectations, very attentive and generous. Staff were very nice and welcome upon to our arrival and the lobby was spacious and with a very nice view. Rooms were spacious, which is rare in Hakuba. You'll never go hungry while staying in this hotel: Breakfast are delicious; they serve snacks such as miso soup, curry, rice, etc after lunch (around 2pm) till dinner time; between 9pm-10pm they serve other snacks as well. Parking is super convenient. The parking lot is just across the hotel entrance so you don't need to walk too far. If you are there for ski season, the rental shop gives very reasonable price. We went around to check out Rhythm and Spicy and they are expensive. The hotel's ski rental shop are much cheaper if you are not too picky on the rental items. Ski lift tickets are much cheaper to buy from the hotel instead of at the mountain. The best part of the hotel is the onsen (hot springs). While I didn't enjoy the bathroom from my hotel room, the public hot springs and private ones are amazing with stunning views. Surprisingly the hot springs are never crowded so you can relax after a long day up on the slopes. Private hot springs (total of 4 private hot springs) are beautiful with different themes. It is a great place for families and couples.
Cons: The only thing would be the bathroom in our hotel room. The bathroom is a bit old, but it didn't bother me so much because I especially enjoyed the public / private hot springs. The breakfast was more towards western style. I would like to see more Japanese typical breakfast. Anyhow, there are still lots of varieties and the breakfast was still very good. Some might find the location a bit far from the ski mountains. It would be convenient to have a car.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing. Excellent English, very helpful, friendly... Had a really nice room: spacious, comfortable, nice bed, etc. Great onsen options (very good public one and also various options of private ones that you can book for 30 min time slots). Lots of free stuff: Pool, table tennis, air hockey, private onsens, wine, nice teas, popcorn and lunches (very nice green curry and rice).
Cons: To go anywhere requires a bus/taxi/car. i.e. you can't just walk out the hotel and visit other restaurants etc.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I absolute loved my stay at grove inn Skala, it was so well located, grove inn Skala has one of the bus stops for the free shuttles for I think two big ski fields, and the other one is 25m walk away which can take you to a different ski field! The breakfast was amazing!! The different combinations of food was so good! They were really accommodating to allergies as well! The family running the inn were the most amazing and welcoming people! They also accommodated for our late check in at 2am! When stayed in a traditional Japanese style room which was perfect. The walk into town takes around 10 minutes, they also have a drying room downstairs where you can store all your equipment! You are also able to buy lift passes for two of the mountains at the reception, and you get a discount! The lines at the ski fields can sometimes be very long!
Cons: Nothing! It was amazing!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were extremely friendly and very helpful. Spacious rooms and very clean facilities. We’re were picked up and dropped off at the train station with no hesitation. Great lounge room with space and massage chair to relax after a day skiing in front of the fire. Central location with a bus stop for the ski resorts right out the front Door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff at the Grove Inn Skala were exceptionally helpful and provided a very welcoming place to stay. Great location for local food and drink, only a 10 minute walk to the main street of Echoland. Very close to bus stops for the ski fields, with HappoOne in walking distance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The couple who look after the house are super friendly and helpful. The location for the ski buses was brilliant - less than 50 metre walk Massage chair (for after skiing, need I say more)

Pros: Brilliantly run hotel... great family atmosphere!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff could not have been better. I hurt myself on the ski slopes and they drove to pick me up, took me to the clinic for treatment and generally were as helpful as you could ever hope.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They picked us up and dropped us off to the bus terminal and when we needed help with directions they were always more than happy to help. Osamu also went out of his way to call numerous restaurants for us to make a reservation with was super helpful. It was also in a great location as the bus for the ski slopes picks you up from the hotel and it was within walking distance to heaps of yummy food in Echoland!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location for Hakuba ski shuttle and for Echo Land. Lovey family run establishment. Great morning breakfast and facilities. Would definitely stay at Grove Inn again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at the picturesque Grove Inn Skala. The rooms and amenities were impeccably clean, warm and well decorated, the beds are very comfortable and shower water pressure is strong. No request was too much for the owners, who were delightful in every way- a lovely family run business. The hot breakfast was delicious every morning. The large living area was a welcomed edition after a long day on the slopes. The drying area was well sized to accommodate all ski equipment. I would strongly recommend to stay here.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was great - close to Echoland, the bus stop, rental shops and lots of bars and restaurants. The owners made the trip for us though - always smiling, accomodating, and absolutely wonderful! The food - both breakfast and we opted for a dinner - was prepared to the highest standard, fresh, and some of the best food we’ve eaten anywhere in Japan. Definitely make sure to book into their restaurant for dinner in advance - it is a highlight. We were a bit dubious about staying in a Japanese style room with a bed on the floor, however it was big, cosy and fun. I slept like a log the entire trip, and didn’t have a single problem - in fact I liked it much more than the western style bed in our Osaka accomodation! Don’t forget about the baths - they were the best way to soak off the bruises racked up from falling down the ski slopes - impeccably clean, well designed, and always easy to get into without a wait. In summary - do yourself a favour and stay here. We will be back for sure!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good. I liked the soup and the fruit.
Cons: Slight inconvenience for bathrooms to be located outside the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, that were wonderful. Breakfast was a highlight of our stay. Thanks for the fresh baked bread. Highly recommend location in Echoland.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is such a lovely place to stay! Ryoji has been running this hotel since the 1998 Nagano olympics, and he's found a great formula. He's super friendly and is always willing to help guests with travel advice, arranging things (taxis, when shuttles leave, etc). He and his family went to great lengths to make our stay wonderful. The hotel itself is very comfy, and the meals each morning were different and tasty. The onsen on site is such a wonderful thing to come back to after a day skiing, and we took full advantage of them each day! Dinner was a lovely experience and would definitely recommend at least once. A short 3 minute walk to the Hakuba chapel shuttle stop, and then down the main road in Echolands, this is a great place to stay and would highly recommend it!
Cons: Nothing, but just a note: if you are searching for the property on maps, use the name of the hotel as the street address gives a different location (location on booking map is correct).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was our second time staying here. We enjoyed the clean and thoughtfully decorated room, as well as the private baths. Great hospitality too! Breakfast was home made and very delicious. Will definitely be back again!
Cons: It was all very good.

7.1 Good
Pros: The hotel is clean, onsen is good, service is good, breakfast is good. I got a genius deal to book the hotel, so the costs is reasonable. However, the staff gave me the bill is the original price when check out, so should be careful to check the bill before you sign. Anyway, they corrected it and doesn't a matter.
Cons: We came there for the spring snowboarding trip, they had provide a dry room to keep the boards, however, the dry room is not really dry. Finally we kept our equipments in our vehicle. Besides, our beds are too soft, not good for the back. Not having enough rest even after slept.

Cons: There was a funny smell in our bathroom, although we loved our room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and large, comfortable room with mountain views. Loved the Onsen after a day of skiing. Walking distance to Nakiyama slopes which allows access to the entire Happo One ski resort (but note that Nakiyama is not ideal for beginners as it has only intermediate and advanced runs). Hotel shuttle bus took us to restaurants and staff called to ask if we had finished our meal and if we wanted to be picked up. Very caring and thoughtful!
Cons: The breakfast was very westernised (white bread, bacon and eggs, standard rice puffs or cornflakes etc.). We would have liked more genuine Japanese or healthier breakfast options.
