Hakuba is a hugely popular ski resort area in the winter but considerably sleepier during the summer season (especially with the addition of Covid-19-related anxieties), but that sleepiness and tranquility was just fine for me and my girlfriend, who were looking for a relaxing retreat in the mountains. The staff here was very welcoming and accommodating, the spotless facilities were a pleasant mix of contemporary Japanese and Western styles, the easy-to-reserve onsen baths (not to mention the in-room onsen tub itself!) were a treat, and the breakfast was healthy and delicious. The location was also perfect, just a 10-minute walk from the gondola heading up to Happo-ike and snow-capped Karamatsu-dake.
I thought the room (despite its loveliness and private onsen tub) was a bit overpriced, considering what else is on offer in Japan for similar rates that also include dinner. Also, pro-tip: make sure you close the door between the bathroom and your bedroom, or you may be inviting a few pesky mosquitoes to join you in your evening slumbers. (This was our fault, not the hotel's, but I thought it worth mentioning in this review!)
True Japanese experience! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and an amazing breakfast. The private onsen was great!
The bathroom was small but had everything needed.
This was a great small hotel. The décor within the hotel was beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful and breakfast plentiful. We would definitely stay here again.
The staff at Hifumi delivered outstanding service and were very attentive to us, thank you! The hotel offered their mini van for transfers to/from the ski fields. Onsen baths at the hotel were so comfortable and meals were excellent! Would recommend this hotel to everyone.
Amazing stay at this family run Ryokan. Centrally located in the Hakuba Valley and within walking distance to Happo-one ski hill. Staff was friendly, room was clean, and food was delicious.
