Also very dusty, I know it's hard to keep on top of that but I could almost write my name in it on the bedside table, but I just gave it a wipe, still a very nice stay. Also, they claimed to have bath robes on the website, but there were none available, and I hadn't brought mine for that reason, it was a little cold in January without it..

The hotel also has a rare, integral but scenic lift.

Cons: Travelers beware! I booked Hotel Continental Genova which was advertised as the modern looking hotel. But when we got there, we were told to move to their brotherly hotel next door (Hotel Savoia Genova) in which the rooms are in the very old Italian style which we didn’t care for. Here is one thing for you to think about, when you walk in to Hotel Continental Genova, you don’t even see the reception area where you can check-in. Does this tell you a lot!

Cons: The reception staff during check in and our whole stay were rude. The hotel states free WiFi but the free WiFi is useless and you have too pay for WiFi that can actually do anything. Charging for WiFi in this day and age is totally unacceptable. The initial price for the hotel seemed good value, but parking cost 79euros for 3 nights and we were also changed 90euros for our dog. I totally understand hotels charging extra for a dog and expected it but we have stayed in Genoa lots of times before and have never had such an large fee added. once you have added all the charges up it really is not good value for money. Room service is a joke and was never open even though we were trying to order it during the hours clearly stated on the menu, we asked reception about this and they just grunted and told us to talk to the bar who then just said the kitchen is closed. Won’t be staying here again.

Cons: The walk ways bit old, You cannot control your own room temperature and have to ask reception. No extractor fan in toilet. On arrival the gentleman who checked us in did not bothered to offer or give any information about breakfast, in fact did not gave any other hotel facility.

Cons: We stayed at the property on the 26th to 28th of Dec. I had booked 4 rooms for 10 persons. Out stay was good and the staff at reception Halima was great. However, when we came back on the 4th, the staff at the reception desk Vivianna wasn’t helpful at all and very inconsiderate. This time I booked 3 rooms for 8 persons. My dad was sick and needed to just rest. As we were a few hours early for the normal 2pm check in, I kindly asked the lady at reception to allow us to at least have one room for him to rest. But she wasn’t helpful and we only got all rooms at 2.34pm. The room allocated to my dad was 222. It’s quite embarrassing that you allow guests to stay in room 222 with a very bad flooring which makes noise with every step you make. The two nights we stayed in December were good, but the one night in January wasn’t. We certainly didn’t want to end of holiday at your hotel in that way.

Cons: As a hotel, the rooms were like in between hostel and dormitories. It was a mediocre hotel and honestly, it doesn’t deserve 8.5 stars. Also, the breakfast was below from my expectations. Especially, the bathroom was challenging that it didn’t have enough space and the gap between tap and the sink was diminutive. Furthermore, blankets were provided instead of quilts.

Cons: We had a 2:00 check in time and they were 45 minutes late. If someone else from the building hadn’t let us in, we would have been left waiting in the middle of the street with all of our bags. The previous guest that stayed in our room had left his charger behind and the woman at reception had left a note in our room saying if we find it, to let her know. We looked around and didn’t find any chargers but our own. She then proceeded to call my phone 6 times in a row at 7:00 at night while we were in Portofino. I finally answered and she rudely told me that it wasn’t funny that I didn’t answer her calls and when I explained to her that I can’t answer calls as it’s international and cost money she said she didn’t understand what I was saying and that if she takes one of our chargers on accident then it’s not her problem. I honestly do not recommend this place.

Cons: Space was a little cramped. The bathroom might need a little updating, but it was quite functional! Be aware that you have to leave a 50 euro OR a document deposit for the keys, as there is an electronic key that would cost 80 euros to replace if lost.

The bathroom was also very tiny, it was difficult to move in the shower or get in and out without stepping in the bidet. The shower guard is poor so watch for large pooling of water when moving around afterward.

Cons: I was asked to pay a city tax at the reception after I had already paid the full payment I don't know why, they wanted to keep my passport to hand over the keys and I could not get out of the hotel until some one was available at the reception to get my passport back in the following morning which was not good. I did not feel the staff was very welcoming and helpful. Also the bathroom was tiny there was almost no gap between the sink and the commode. Walls wasn't too good as it was a bit noisy and could hear all the noises from out specially the bells from the near by church very early in the morning.

The location is excellent, close to train station Piazza Principe, the airport terminal shuttle (Volabus) and easy to walk to the places of interest in the city (Museums, Palaces, old city, harbour) Good sized bedroom and bathroom for 2 people, clean and functional, with air conditioner. The breakfast was very good, lots of choice (fruit, croissant, bread, yogurts, cake, cereals, cheese, …….). The lady at breakfast was very friendly and she would make coffee, cappuccino according to personal preference. All the staff were very polite and friendly and keen to help in any way possible. It is a family-run hotel, with a friendly resident cat :) , where people care for the visitors. I would recommend this hotel and would have no second thoughts on returning.

Pros: The friendliness, the spaciousness, the care to help with our children's requests, the location.
Cons: Decoration was a little out of date. But, it was consistent. Wifi was a little spotty.

Pros: It was close to the train station.
Cons: Can't believe the price for what you get. SMALL room, very outdated furniture and fixtures. Two twin beds pushed together but they were different heights so didn't really make a double bed. I've stayed in hostels in developing countries that were nicer and more modern than this place.

Pros: This is a very good hotel. I had a wonderful view over Genova from my fifth floor balcony (don’t worry, there is a lift!). My room was air conditioned and en suite - it was cleaned every day. The hotel owners and their staff were friendly and helpful. I rate it very highly and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Pros: Great little family hotel and traditional, down quiet alleyway. The location is excellent, close to train station Piazza Principe, the airport terminal shuttle (Volabus) and easy to walk to the places of interest in the city (Museums, Palaces, old city, harbour) Good sized bedroom and bathroom for 2 people, clean and functional, with air conditioner. The breakfast was very good, lots of choice (fruit, croissant, bread, yogurts, cake, cereals, cheese, …….). The lady at breakfast was very friendly and she would make coffee, cappuccino according to personal preference. All the staff were very polite and friendly and keen to help in any way possible. It is a family-run hotel, with a friendly resident cat :) , where people care for the visitors. I would recommend this hotel and would have no second thoughts on returning.

Cons: The hotel is overall very dingy with worn rugs and bad wall paint - everything needs an update. The elevators were ancient and worn out looking, but they worked and were fast. I can't recommend the hotel until it get a fresh coat of paint and some redecoration. Our room was also quite dark and pretty worn out looking.

Cons: Bed was to small, AC didn't work in room. Joint entry door with next room was like they were in my room! Just not a good stay

Cons: They turn off the air conditioner at night because they expect you to open your windows to the "cooler" air. The place is next to a port operating 24/7 loading and unloading cruise ships. Extremely noisy and bright lights all night. The windows are approximately 6ft long by 4 ft wide and you have to open the whole window. There were gale force winds coming in and blowing everything around. So there was either no air circulation with the windows closed or a wind tunnel with them open.
The beds were too firm for our liking.
Not a place to get a good night's rest.
