Pros: We arrived late after a delayed flight and an absent driver at the airport, and were greeted by a warm and friendly receptionist who said she had taken the liberty of upgrading our room. We could have hugged her. We dropped off our bags and went up to the rooftop lounge which was spectacular and gave us a sense of the city nightlife below. The bed was large and comfortable, the room climate controlled, and breakfast the next morning was exceptional--especially the Sicilian pastries!

If you arrive by car, best to book the parking in advance otherwise it is on street parking which can be a bit tricky. Catania is an old city and has many more cars and scooters than it can really handle and that is reflected by the standards of driving with the locals taking the 'dive for the gap' technique. Hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk into the centre of town

I had trouble falling asleep because of this smell. I sprayed perfume and deodorant on the bed and pillows, but neither helped. My hair and clothes all smelt like the bed afterwards. - The shower was covered in lime scale. They should put more effort into cleaning this. - The towels were rock hard and smelt horrible, they were well on their way to the smell of the bed, but not quite there yet.

The person working that night was very knowledgeable of things that were available nearby for us. The morning we were leaving, our taxi that was set up to take us to the airport was late. We called the front desk and they were quickly able to assist us with contacting the taxi and getting everything taken care of, in order for us to make it to the airport on time.

Cons: Guilia, the staff works there was awful! She told us she will be available at the desk for check in between 9-2:30 and 5:30-8 pm window. We got notified that in the same morning and we ended up waiting for an hour in front of the place with all the luggages. All the check in process happened for her favor, not for customers. There’s so many spiral steps to the room and shower got weird smells. But these were more tolerable than her laziness.

Cons: But all together I was disappointed with the place after the great reviews I have read about it. First of all, the key to your room is this old style key, I guess everyone seen that, you have to find a position to open your door, so it isn’t that safety and if your neighbors don’t know how to open the door on the night, there is a big chance you will be woken up. Also the walls are just like papers, when your neighbor use the bathroom, you have the feeling they are in your room... The room itself is ok, but we had a queen size bed with 2 different mattresses, one of them super used and not even same height as the other. The pillow is very uncomfortable super height. The worst part was the bathroom. I don’t mind if something is outdated if it is clean. In general super moldy, not only the shower but all around wall, next to sink! Very very unhealthy! We haven’t ordered breakfast in advance, we like to check out the offer and than decide. We were informed, although there is an option for that, they order from a place close by, but maybe if we want it’s just better if we walk there... so I am very confused about the reviews, probably earlier they have offered. After all I wouldn’t book it again.

We were offered a choice of room and selected a small but well equipped and comfortable room with delightful french windows and balcony. I'd advise you to avoid the front of the hotel at the weekend unless you are going to be out yourself partying late (it's a bit of a gathering place late on in the evening).

Cons: We were very disappointed that the air conditioning in the annex building across the street did not work. In total our group had 3 rooms in this building, and it was very hot (outside temperature 28/29°C). For rooms on the street it is impossible to sleep with the windows open due to restaurants and nightlife outside especially on the weekend, plus garbage trucks in very early hours.... We specifically reserved this hotel due to location and air conditioning. We were also dismayed by hotel staff's management of this issue. We were not notified of the A/C problem at check-in and were asked to pay the full hotel price on arrival. Hotel reception promised the A/C to be fixed, but this did not materialize and after much disagreeable insisting we managed to get 2 of the 3 rooms moved to the main building where the AC was working. It is also worth noting that the room safes did not work in 3 of the 5 rooms we were in during our stay.

Pros: Excellent location, Luigi on the reception desk was exceptionally helpful and even arranged to send on the clothes I'd left to our next hotel in Taormina! We were offered a choice of room and selected a small but well equipped and comfortable room with delightful french windows and balcony. We were on the side of the hotel and this turned out to be quiet. I'd advise you to avoid the front of the hotel at the weekend unless you are going to be out yourself partying late (it's a bit of a gathering place late on in the evening).
Cons: The breakfast service was not replenished - we went there half an hour before it closed and it was pretty sparse to say the least, but the coffee and croissants were excellent. It's probably best to get their early. Our bathroom was a little on the snug side which may be a problem for some, but then we did have a choice of larger rooms had we wanted them.

Cons: I have booked the room with the mountain Etna view and a balcony. I have payed more money just to have exactly that room for the very special occasion. They have upgraded me for the suit, but it was just a room with the ugly street view, just a bigger than regular. If I would have a chance and I would just cancel it. Beds were absolutely uncomfortable and the wallpapers were falling apart. Room carpets seems were cleaned properly long time ago and I started having dust allergy (I have small asthma). I am not even talking about dusty curtains. Reception - absoltely useless. When we have asked for the nice beach close by we were guided to some black sand beach with big waves, which is 15 min away. We have walked around 2 hours searching, but the ones around were just rocks or just kinda sandish with a fresh fish seller and come cats around. After making a pit stop at the coffee place and checking google we figured out that the nice one is 25 min drive from where we were. If you ever decide to stay in here just know that reception doesn't know much or doesn't really care. Breakfast for the value of money was absolutely dissapointing as for example coffee of one of our days was finished (more than 1 hour before the breakfast has been finished) as some other things. The staff was just relaxing and having their breakfast just by the side of the guests. Not a good selection of vegetables, just 4 kinds - two types of low quality letuce, worse ever seen tomatoes in Catania and something more what I don't remember. Even boiled eggs were not fresh!!! A bit of fruit, some juice, wafles and so on. No avena flakes, just kellogs style stuff. Looks good from far away. Would highly recomend places for food around the hotel. You will be surprised how good it is comparing to what you are getting in a hotel. Shower in a room was barelly alive as no water preasure and it takes some time to regulate it, sink was clogged.

Cons: Carpet and furniture throughout was very dated and threadbare. Elevators not safe, due to door closure not sensitive to obstruction either by a person or object. Room/Door was squeaky, Light fittings were loose and coming away from the walls. Again, the building is quite grand and is in dire need of updating to it's former glory.
