The minimum age requirement for renting a car in Norway is generally 21, though this can vary between companies as well as additional fees they may apply for young drivers. You will need to provide your valid driver’s license, which must be a full license that you’ve held for at least 12 months. A secondary form of identification is often also required, which can be your passport. To cover costs of deposits, extras, and your booking you will need to provide a major credit card in your name. If you are using your own insurance coverage, you will also likely need to provide the details of the policy to the hire car office.
There are some Bergen Flesland Airport car hire companies with offices in the airport, and some off site that instead offer a shuttle service. You will see this information when booking your rental car. To find the offices in the airport, you can simply follow the signs once you’ve arrived to guide you. They are located in the main parking area right by the airport, and there is a hallway to take you to this area from Arrivals. The offices off site will likely use a shuttle service that will collect you from the main collection area just outside of the main airport doors, which will be clearly signed.
Compact, standard, and electric vehicles tend to be the most popular in Norway, though SUV models may be handy if your travel plans involve many sights in nature, further off the main travel routes. It really comes down to your plans and how many people in your travel party, and how much luggage you have with you. A compact vehicle is a good choice for a small party with travel plans mainly between cities and on main roads, though if you prefer extra room or luxury, you will find these options for car hire at Bergen Flesland Airport.
Car rental companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Bergen Airport to off-airport locations include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, and Thrifty.
Pros:AVIS in Bergen was extremely helpful. Due to the bicycle race we could not return the car as planned. The local AVIS people were very accommodating in agreeing to pick up the car and allowing us to catch our flight back to Stockholm. They could not have been more helpful. The poor rating is solely due to the excessive one-way fees and the failure to explain these to us.
Cons:Nobody unexplained costs for a one-way rental and fact that they could change this fee at their discretion. The Bergen AVIS office increased the one-way fee by 3x (from 4000 SEK to 12000 SEK) without any notice that they were doing that. We did not discover this until we returned from our trip and I checked our credit card statement. The total cost of the 3-day rental was over $2300.00. We feel cheated and taken advantage of and will likely not rent from AVIS again! When I called AVIS customer service I was told there was nothing that could be done....in essence it was our fault for not asking in advance. extremely disappointed.

Pros:Excellent car for driving the Fjords
Cons:Confusing drop off -- directions or signage would have been helpful
Pros:Staff were helpful and easy to work with. Dropping off was quick with no problems. Vehicle was in excellent condition and price was very competitive.
Pros:We were assigned a manual transmission car which neither of us knew how to drive and asked for a different car which we were given. The customer service was great and we loved the car we were given

Pros:Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Cons:They were unable to give us the size car I had reserved and it was hard to find the drop-off point at Oslo Airport. That may not be Hertz's fault!
Pros:At least they had different car.
Cons:Even though we attached flight they ignored the time we land and gave our car away. We were forced to take 210% more expensive car.
Pros:The pick-up was simple and efficient. The car was brand new and operated well. The drop-off was quick and easy.
Pros:Easy to pick the car up from the Bergen airport and drop off was easy as well. Highly recommend.
Cons:Had aim early morning flight out of Stavanger and Hertz was not open and could not find a drop off box for the keys. After several inquiries someone was finally able to direct me to correct location.
Pros:Car was clean and comfortable, got us where we needed to go.
Cons:The representative at Hertz uncharged me more than double what I initially paid, by claiming that I reserved an electric car and switching my reservation, even though my original rental agreement made no mention of electric vehicles. This was an unpleasant and costly experience.
