8.0 Excellent
Pros: I booked a double bed and we were given a free upgrade to a kingsize bed. The room was lovely and the bathroom very large. The evening meal was lovely but not a large menu
Cons: The pillows were like bricks. We did not realise they were memory foam pillows until we got into bed and too late to request a change. Consequently we did not have a good nights sleep. Not the hotels fault but the binmen woke us at 7pm.

The Black Horse Hotel Grassington - Skipton - Building

9.1 Excellent (409 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at The Black Horse Hotel Grassington in Skipton, you'll be in a national park, within a 15-minute drive of Yorkshire Dales National Park and Bolton Priory. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel , in great village , very pet friendly. Presentation superb and breakfast excellent especially home made jams.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: At the price I paid (£57:50p) for 1 night B&B I thought the Black Horse was excellent value for money. The staff were very friendly, the room was clean, and the breakfast very good indeed. I was not expecting to have dinner in the hotel but in the end I did, and very good it was too.
Cons: Although a reasonable range of teas was offered at Breakfast I was not impressed. All I wanted was a good strong cup of Breakfast Tea, apart from fruit or decaffeinated tea all that was available was Earl Gray. Even after a good 10 mins in the pot it was still very weak. Fair Trade it may be, but sadly good tea it is not. I wondered why I woke up in the middle of the night feeling so hot! I had opened the window when I first checked in to get some fresh air. It appears the central heating was full on, even at 03:00 hrs.
10.0 Excellent

The cleaning was done to a very high standard. The staff were all pleasant and efficient, and always cheerful and welcoming. I couldn’t fault anything. The value for money was outstanding. We will definitely go back again and I will recommend it to friends and family.
Cons: Nothing at all.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent all round - a welcome stay after a day cycling ... having a bath was great too. Lovely people serving excellent food and beer - I will be back
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, Clean and good food Friendlyness
Cons: Pillows to soft
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was the one highlight of the stay, but unfortunately too late in our stay to undo all the negatives.
Cons: This hotel is on a busy main road (the route N from Skipton) and so the noise of traffic runs through the night. So, on a warm night it is not possible to have the window open. The bed was uncomfortable - too soft/old, and the room (#5) was only just larger that the bed - this room is really suitable only for single occupancy! The bathroom was dirty and washbasin was cracked, shower tray was broken. The entrance and corridors of the hotel, and worn & grubby carpets really do show signs of years of neglect.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Comfy bed. Staff friendly. Great food (breakfast and evening meal). Nice location.
Cons: Only little things. No toothbrush glass or tumbler. Side panel of bath hanging off (caught my leg on it).

Pros: A lovely quiet location, great staff who were keen to interact with guests and excellent facilities. Wished we had been able to stay longer!
Cons: Nothing, was excellent!
5.4 Okay
Pros: The spa (across the road) had good facilities
Cons: The smell in lobby is for dog lovers only. I found it stuffy and unpleasant. Also breakfast was not very good. The sausage was decent but all else was not nice like the eggs were tasteless and bacon tough. for a hotel of this calibre my partner and I were surprised. Also there is a complimentary welcome basket of snacks but ours were half eaten... So room cleaners did not clean properly? We rang front desk and they replaced the single item we requested but closer inspection showed the entire welcome box had been sampled already by previous guest. Yuk. Just yuk.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location and country gentish feel!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Most everything
Cons: Bad WiFi. None in rooms or restaurants

It is probably the best wedding we have ever been to. The food and the staff are excellent. The accommodation is luxurious. We would 100 % recomend the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were really helpful and cheery, the room was lovely and the food was fantastic.
Cons: It was great for us as we were at a wedding in the barn down the road but the only issue I would say is that there are no local taxis due to its location however if you are happy to walk around the local area then it is perfect!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is lovely and tranquil setting amazing. Staff very helpful I felt one member of staff though was not particularly welcoming.
Cons: Had to change room as the one allocated was not up the the standard expected .

Pros: Location good. Character of the property good. Friendly greeting.
Cons: Small door to bedroom - husband banged his head - no warning sign. Shower came away from hinge, appeared old. En-suite tiny and fabric of bedroom basic for the price. The hosts certainly live up to this motto. they could not be more friendly, helpful and accommodating. And the breakfasts are great- really set us up for the days' walking. Thanks to Andrea, Eugene and Kim for a great 3 day break!

Grassington Lodge - Skipton - Bedroom
9
9.0 Excellent (200 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Skipton, Grassington Lodge is within a 15-minute drive of Yorkshire Dales National Park and Bolton Priory. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location and close to all amenities Staff were friendly
Cons: For a superior room the bed was not the most comfortable. Two beds had been pushed together to make a larger bed and was uncomfortable to lie on the seam. The room was way too hot even when the fan was on constantly. Overall it was a nice clean hotel other than this.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: I had difficulty with the separate bathroom's door knob, was hard (for me) to open, at one stage took a few minutes to exit, I am awaiting surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, and had surgery on the other, I don't have a lot of strength in either. I also was very aware the bathroom was not next door to us, as told, but next to another guests room, and felt unhappy having to be rattling and unlocking the door in case we disturbed the occupiers of that room, we ended up leaving it unlocked. Our room door was also not fitted properly, could see the light outside through the gaps. We had difficulty putting water into the kettle, managed by putting kettle on it's side in the sink. Finally making a drink, when opening the flask containing milk, it was really off, thick like milk jelly. But have to say, friendly staff, comfy bed and my Husband really enjoyed His Yorkshire breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great second stay:)
10.0 Excellent

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming hosts. Bedrooms clean, well equipped and exceedingly comfortable beds!! Good menu choice for a tasty breakfast and comfortable friendly atmosphere. Liked it so much we have booked another stay!
Cons: There was nothing that we were not happy about.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Richard was very welcoming, and was happen to show me the room and Sky Movies etc. etc. - i.e. an excellent host. Clean, tidy, good breakfast and just what you need for a night stop over.
Cons: The pressure in the shower was not that strong.
6.0 Good
Pros: Could not fault Richard and the team - the friendliest service I've ever had from a B&B! The breakfast was excellent - a good variety of cooked options as well as the standard cereal, yoghurt and fruit, plus a good selection of teas. I had the single room which faces the back for the B&B - it was very clean and I certainly got a good night's sleep. Very close to the centre of town and right opposite the bus station, with the train station less than a 10 minute walk. Perfectly situated and well priced for what it is.
Cons: It is hard to ascertain just how small the single room is prior to arriving - the only pictures available are those from previous guests and information from reviews is limited. It is in need of a bit of TLC as some of the wallpaper is peeling. If I came back I would not book the single room as I prefer a larger room to move in - that said it did what it said on the tin and I still got a good night's sleep. The common areas, particularly the stairwells, need some attention where the walls and fixtures have been knocked by lugging suitcases up and down the stairs but this is minor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location for the town. Lovely friendly welcome. Good breakfast
Cons: Everything was fine. No dislikes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff very friendly clean and cosy hotel plus great value for money
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I am a solo female traveller and I always love visiting The Unicorn as I feel very safe there. In addition, the breakfasts are excellent with a wide selection of food and drinks available; the rooms are wonderfully comfortable and have everything that I could possibly need and the staff are all friendly, efficient and helpful. The Unicorn is situated just over the road from the bus station and literally just around the corner from the High Street with its shops, a street market on four days of the week, numerous cafes, restaurants & bars and at the top a Castle. It is also just a short walk away from the canal where there are boat trips available. The Unicorn is a real gem and I'm so glad that I found it!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly helpful management, good breakfast, easy parking.
Cons: Stairs are hard work, manouvering through fire doors with luggage, though they offer help
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Aged but sturdy and full of character. Service was generous, welcoming & efficient.
Cons: Local late venue playing music, which goes with the territory, but that drummer really wasn’t as good as he thought he was.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Unicorn Hotel was very welcoming and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. We liked the relaxed atmosphere of the place. The location was superb, only a few minutes from town with easy but safe access to the building at night. The freshly cooked breakfast was lovely. Richard even forwarded on my daughters teddy which we had left in the room.
Cons: The room itself could do with a bit of redecoration.

Pros: Great pub with good food and friendly staff. Room was very comfortable and had nice decor. Great to have parking for hotel guests - really useful. Would definitely stay there again
Cons: Dog policy on where we could eat was a little unclear but was handled really well.
3.7 Mediocre
Pros: The location. Skipton is beautiful village in Yorkshire
Cons: Was expecting great things. Heard fantastic stories from a few years ago about the Woolly Sheep. Alas,it seems those days are long gone. The rooms are old and cramped. Our shower was held together by sellotape. We had our baby with us and they had us in a tiny tiny room. The staff weren’t so friendly and at one point a bit rude when we were feeding our baby in the restaurant. We only needed 15 mins,a high chair and a chair just to feed him,but the waiting staff were persistent on asking if we had a table booked,(which we had for an hour later )...but it wasn’t too busy, there was lots of free space but it felt as if they didn’t want us there and were moving us on. Anyways she when we did eat, they forgot part of the order completely. The food is average and expensive, plus with our steaks we had blue cheese sauce which was watery, bland and more buttery than cheesy. Very disappointed, won’t be back
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was so nice, everyone was friendly
Cons: Nothing
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Excellent location. Good TV. Nice tray with drinks and biscuits.
Cons: Room 8. Very small. Lots of noise from pub downstairs until 1 am on a Saturday night. The whole corridor stunk of oil from a deep fat fryer at meal times. Door to shower opened so little that I could only get into the shower sideways. I'm a size 18. Anyone bigger than me might not get in at all. It's both humiliating and dangerous. Why not just have a shower curtain? Breakfast OK, but please make a decent pot of coffee or tea for your customers.

Pros: In middle of Town

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful and charming Yorkshire village
Cons: There was nothing to dislike
7.9 Good
Pros: Beautiful location, lovely staff. Room would have had exceptional views - hotel gives free parking for Bolton Abby (saving £10) short walk to the village which is beautiful. A fabulous evening meal of exceptional quality and presentation.
Cons: Its such a shame that we weren't told about the repair work taking place on the property as scaffold was erected outside of the windows with workmen carrying out repairs. This is not the fault of the hotel, we understand they have to carry out repairs and they had tried to place the scaffolding sympathetically. However, we should have been made aware of this on booking and a small discount applied to reflect this. Breakfast was an absolute disaster again such a shame after such an impressive evening meal. The bacon was hard an like leather - clearly having been cooked for sometime. The black pudding couldn't be cut it was so hard. Very poor fruit and cereal selection.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location with stunning views
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful staff. Good location and parking. Good food and dining facilities.
Cons: There was scaffolding erected across the front of the hotel due to on-going remedial work. My room on the first floor at the side of the hotel was above the kitchens. There was some air conditioning noise continuous throughout the day and evening.

Pros: Ideal scenic location for walking the dales. Great friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Firstly the wonderful location, then the welcoming staff, then the super dual aspect room with a bright and sparkling en suite bathroom. Other than breakfast we did not need to dine there but the breakfast was delightful. The views were magnificent, down to a meandering river with an impressive road bridge over it. Could not fault the place and can’t wait to go back, with more time to explore. David, who appeared to be in charge whilst we were there, was an excellent host. What more can I say? So highly recommend this hotel!
Cons: Having to Leave!

6.3 Good
Pros: Staff very pleasant one helpful, breakfast enjoyable.
Cons: Property very dated and in need of revamp. Bedroom extremely small. Carpet on stairway extremely worn.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff were lovely. Would stay there again.
Cons: Evening meals: Slow cooked shoulder of lamb was too dried out/rare steak was cooked medium (not charged for). The area around the bin in the dining room smells and has food splashed up the wall.
7.5 Good
Pros: The breakfast was very good as was the service of the staff, very attentive, friendly and catered for all we asked for.
Cons: A long trek to the top floor as there are no lifts. The decor on the staircases (especially the carpets) were very old, worn and stained which gave off a not too pleasant smell, if this was put right it would massively make a big difference. The tea & coffee making facilities were good but where they were situated on the window sill did not have a plug for the kettle.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing the Foresters Arms is the dirtiest place we have ever stayed and should not be on any booking site. If any where else had any vacancies we would have left. Extremely loud entertainment going on until midnight.
Cons: As already stated the place was filthy, dirty stained carpets, rickety old furniture in the bedroom. I can't describe how bad it is, and would definitely NOT recommend staying there to any one.

Pros: We noticed a smell in the small en-suite and reported it to the staff and they sent a cleaner to sort it out very quickly so thanks to that, the food was excellent and the situation very beautiful. The food was excellent. There were lots of bona fide hunters with guns and wellies staying in the actual pub. The breakfast was good, kippers in all.
Cons: We asked for a ground floor and got a first floor instead but whatever, the WIFI only worked from the outside of the pub but his didn’t help in the dark.

Pros: Great location for exploring Skipton and surrounding area. Easy car parking on site. Opposite railway station. Great selection at breakfast including eggs benedict and poached haddock.
Cons: Our room was very nice but a lack of a shower was a disappointment. Also the hanging rail in wardrobe was high up so anyone with a reach of less than about 6 ft would struggle.
7.5 Good
Pros: Comfy beds, excellent breakfast and great location (next to Canal) and right opposite the Railway Station.-Short pleasant walk into the town centre (we took the canal route) with a great variety of shops/cafes/restaurants.The staff are really friendly/polite and helpful.

6.0 Good
Pros: Food and staff
Cons: Pealing paint work on the entrance to the rooms. Chipped Formica surfaces on bedroom surfaces. Mattress who’s springs too evident and made the bed uncomfortable. Water marks on bathroom floor adjacent to the shower cubicle which had no shelving to accommodate bathing tackle.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. No problem registering early and returning late after a wedding. It was good to be allowed to stay till 11 am as we could watch England match in rugby world cup. Beds comfortable.
Cons: The room was a bit noisy from ? boiler noises and barrel moving. The television was a bit small. Only two tea bags provided but we got some more. Just a suggestion - a tray to make the tea on would have made drips and teabag stains easier to clean up. Only one chair to sit on in the room. Mirror in ladies far too high for small people like me!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful and spacious accommodation in room number 4. Helpful and courteous staff. Delicious breakfast Excellent value for money.
7.0 Good
Pros: We were well looked after from arrival to departure. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and very knowledgeable about coeliac disease.

Pros: breakfast was good yet order not delivered as asked for
Cons: floors dusty in the room and mattress was stained and very poor quality
9.6 Excellent
Pros: the vegetarian breakfast was excellent, however the meal on the first night was not satisfactory for my friend - she was sure the mashed potato and the veggie pie contents were reconstituted and not so pleasant (my fish and chips were fab!)
Cons: that it was so far out of town - tho' the taxis were pretty cheap... The double bed could have been bigger (we are not a couple - only partners in puppetry, so would have preferred twin beds!) But we loved the award winning cemetery close by, and the walks, the staff were utterly brilliant so no real complaints (only the smash potato!)
5.4 Okay
Pros: The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly
Cons: The room was extremely cramped with lots of cobwebs on the ceiling and damp mould in the bathroom and wardrobe was jutting out and a hazard during the night when going to the toilet..Breakfast was not of a very good standard and we did not receive what we asked for
