No car available, called me last minute an hour before pick up, gave me the option to wait around another few hours but still no car available. Lost money in having to totally rearrange bookings and travel plans due to rental car being cancelled.

The first van I tried had a broken seat folding mechanism. The second one developed intermittent brake problem, had to call a tow truck and go for a replacement. Will certainly remember the Alamo as a rental company to avoid.

Everything was great except the cleanliness of the vehicle. Last renter left hard mucus (boogers) on two different spots on driver side. They didn’t bother with wiping down steering column. Gross!

When I originally searched for a rental, I accidentally used a downtown location for my drop-off instead of the airport. I only noticed this error after I completed the purchase, but the agent said it wouldn't be a problem to change it later. I called Enterprise the next day to make sure it was OK to change the drop-off location and they said it would add over $300 to my one-day rental! Obviously, I declined, dropped it off downtown, and took a $15 Lyft ride to the airport. I was just picking up a car parked at the airport, so I had no time-crunch, but this could've really screwed someone's day up if they were trying to catch a flight!

I called Payless to make sure I could pick up a car with my later flight (expected arrival time 10 pm), even though their office hours say they close at 10. The agent I spoke to said "that location allows for pick-up and drop-off 24/7. When I arrived 30 minutes late because of a delayed flight, the Payless counter was closed with a handwritten note to go to the Avis counter to pick up my car. After a 2 hour wait in the Avis rental line, I was required to rent a new car from Avis and was told they (the Avis counter) do not have access to the Payless inventory. Garbage experience!

I waited an hour at the counter upstairs to get the paperwork for a prepaid reservation. Then went downstairs where I waited another hour to be given a car. The employees told us we were lucky because others waited three hours earlier.

The car I rented was not fully cleaned inside or out, there was nowhere to make damages on the vehicle prior to rental. The gas tank was only filled to 3/4 when I received it.

I asked for a Toyota Camry or equivalent. They had one, but the agent asked if I wanted to be bumped up to a BMW 3. Between him wearing a mask, having a glass wall between us, him speaking rather quietly and me being 75, I thought he said "free upgrade". Turns out it cost me $150 for three days. Nice car but I didn't need the upgrade and would have declined had he communicated more clearly. Other than that, not a bad experience.

Pick-up took 2 hours in line because they didn’t have the right car for everyone and had only 1 person for a long time. Totally miserable. Car was fine but waiting that long was insane. No other rental counter had a line.

The car wasn't especially clean. The auto drive was disabled due to how the last driver operated the car. One of the reasons I went with the more expensive Tesla was that I could try out the auto drive. Also, there wasn't a sufficient adapter in the car to charge it at my destination. Would not rent again.

When I rented the car at like 2 am, I needed a large SUV to transport 6 teenagers across the state to a dance competition. Unbeknownst to my when I started to drive away the check engine light went on. I called budget they told me that if I didn’t feel safe that I couldn’t return it. Well now I was really late. They said the car should be fine and so I went on. The next today the car was driving like it was off alignment. I didn’t have time to switch cars nor drive all the way 1.25 hrs away to the nearest budget to get. A new rental. They didn’t offer any compensation except that I could switch the car out, which I had to pay for the gas there to switch it out and it took me over 4 hours with driving to get there switch it out and they made me fill up the tank again for my gas to get back to my location. I just think it is completely unprofessional to not offer road side assistance and specially when they knew that I had 6 teenagers that I was transporting and responsible for.

Budget SeaTac had NO CARS, even though the reservation had been made. QEEQ had to refund me. All in all it was a terrible experience and it threatens kayak's reputation for you to continue to work with them.

Avis now ranks below fox in my book... and that is hard to do. The "legal" term for what I experienced was bait and switch. EV (said my credit card rental coverage probably didn't cover Electric vehicles and the only other option was a 10 person van which at 5'3" and 67 years old would be unsafe for me to drive. I expect to have my original price honored and am ready to raise hell if it's not.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with. I was left to resolve the matter on my own. The 3rd party Kayak used did not address my issue and left me stranded. I could not move the reservation to any other provider, and I had to find a vehicle myself. We were 2 hours late for our meeting. And what makes this worst is I prepaid everything. I would not use KAYAK or their service providers again and I will tell everyone I know about this experience

Our AVIS rep at SeaTac was wonderful. She was very patient when my credit card didn’t work and saved my ‘mystery car’ reservation while I paid off enough of the balance to pay for our car. Based on this experience I will not hesitate to recommend AVIS in the future.

i put an electric car on hold, but when i arrived i was told it would only have a range of 100-150miles. i was also told if i didnt bring it back charged fully it would cost me an extra $35 and that charging would take about 4-8 hrs. so for a one night rental i was looking to be charging/waiting around constantly. they did get me a gas car, but it wasnt cheap.

Bad hours, no communication when I emailed about extra charges, extra unexplained charges, wrong vehicle. I purchased an intermediate SUV rental and was initially told I would get a sedan, them was given a tiny crossover when I showed my confirmation email. We could barely fit 5 people and luggage in it.
