9.5 Excellent
Pros: We had three separate rooms in a beautiful old building with amazing views. The location is great if you like to be in a remote place.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spectacular rural location. Characterful buildings and grounds with swimming pool. Pleasant dining experience in the evenings and good breakfasts.
Cons: Our first room wasn't to our liking but we were moved when another room became free.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful house, large bedroom, many communal rooms, felt like a 5* hotel. Very good to be able to sit out in the evening and enjoy a glass of wine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved being away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The facilities, including our room, were beautiful. This is a lovely family-run business in a very old estate with all the modern conveniences. The staff was very nice and responsive. Be aware, a car is needed to get there, as it is located about 15-20 minutes from Santiago De Compostela. We are birders and loved the entrance road to the property. It was both scenic and there were several “trails” to hike. We found a very nice dirt bike track to the river from the road. The internet in our room was a bit inconsistent, as we had the room that was the furthest away. just above the pool. It worked great inside and outside the main house where reception is located. This was not an issue for us, because we were mostly out exploring. Their breakfast, which was a modest add on, was delightful. Due to their location, it is the only local choice for breakfast. (Be aware it served somewhat late, between 9 - 10:30 am, so if you need an early start, you will have to eat elsewhere.) We enjoyed one delicious prefix dinner, but the many courses were too filling for so late in the evening. We wish we could have ordered tapas or ala carte, so that we were not uncomfortably full before bedtime. Otherwise we had a perfect visit. We highly recommend Casa Grande Do Bachao We would gladly stay there again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was just excellent. We had two wonderful dinners and the place is more like a country house than an hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old monastery lovingly restored and maintained. Lovely owners and spectacular food for breakfast and dinner. Excellent value and service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent and beyond!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Situated 4.5kms along a single track road in 14.000m2 woodland above a fishing river, this place is like a small Parador, only far more personal. It is in an XVIII farmhouse and outbuildings restored to the highest standard. It is managed by the owners and activities such as white water rafting, cycling, guided walks are available. 11kms from Santiago de Compostella heaving with hikers, it is an oasis of peace and tranquility. About 30kms from the beautiful Galician coast.
Cons: Evening meal at 9pm. Too late for oldies! Breakfast at 9am, too late for a prompt start.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Incredible and unique location and property. Friendly helpful employees. Good value meals.
Cons: I would not recommend bringing your dog as we did. The hotels dogs run around loose which would be fine if it weren't including a heavy unspayed female who refused to leave our dog alone the entire time. We could not even let him out for a pee without being jumped on. We had politely informed the owners several times but they seemed very flippant about it and did nothing. Dogs mating is a very serious thing that needs to be carried out under supervision. Its a shame to say we spent most of our holiday unable to relax and enjoy the gardens and surrounding areas, having to constantly watch the dogs and try to keep them separate as the owners did not care. Sadly this resulted in an expensive trip to the vets for our dog on our last day due to issues the night before and all our plans for the final day out the window. The owners were fully aware but not so much as an apology or even an enquiry as to whether our dog was ok. A real shame to have had our stay ruined by something that could have been so easily avoided with a little more responsibility and care.

Cons: Nothing to report
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel
Cons: Service at the breakfast
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Liked the kindness of staff. The home feeling of the hotel and the restaurant and food.
Cons: The room service card was limited. The spa gets quickly full. Found it a bit small for such a hotel. The outdoor pool was not available which is a shame for the summer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire staff was extremely professional and attentive. The Quinta is incredibly beautiful, a very relaxing environment truly in touch with the surrounding nature. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the common spaces feel very cozy and familiar. I had the opportunity to have both breakfast and dinner at the hotel. There was plenty of variety and the food was always exquisite.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is beautifully appointed and laid out. Architect owned and designed, the owner clearly has superb taste and a detailed eye for design and originality. The walls are painted in rich colours, or papered beautifully. The furniture and decoration a wonderful mixture of styles. The place is friendly and homely. A lovely place to stay. Perfectly Located just a short taxi ride from the centre of Santiago.
Cons: Nothing. Whilst the gardens could be given a little more attention, it was charming and not preciously manicured.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We booked a spa package from A Quinta da Auga after reading too many reviews from central Santiago hotels complaining about noise levels, and were not disappointed. The hotel was much closer to the city centre than we had imagined. The hotel is rather luxurious, with huge rooms and bathrooms and very comfortable beds. We also enjoyed our 2 hour session in the spa, as well as the extensive breakfast buffet.
Cons: We stayed in the hotel on a Sunday evening and the local restaurants closed early, so we couldn’t have dinner elsewhere but the hotel. We chose the cafe which had very slow service and high prices, even if the food was good. Our room was on the garden level where people would walk by, so there was some lack of privacy if we had the shutters open. There was quite a bit of noise from the corridor.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property. Luxurious rooms and well appointed bathroom. Excellent breakfast
Cons: Bar staff were disappointing. Eur 30 each to use spa if not in room rate. Location is 3km or Eur 10 taxi from centre of town.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place. Everything looked amazing.
Cons: Not walking distance from the city center
5.5 Okay
Pros: Very nice hotel. Cafeteria restaurant was nice for drink and snacks but menu was very limited for an evening meal.
Cons: As an eco hotel, air con was on at a minimum so was too warm in the room. Gardeners started the leaf blower at 8am just below our room which continued solidly for an hour. Staff friendly but did not seem very knowledgeable about local area. Was disappointed as have always had excellent experiences in Relais & Chateaux hotels. The hotel was nice but just not quite up expectations.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely old building - large very comfortable and clean room and bathroom with mirador balcony overlooking the street which was very quite at night. Excellent location very near the cathedral but long walk from the car park as we didn't interpret the directions sent by the hotel correctly and went the long way round, if you go the correct way not too bad. Would be difficult for anyone elderly to carry luggage that far. Excellent value for money and the whole hotel is just that little bit different, friendly, helpful staff, would stay here again if returned to SDC.
Cons: We were OK but walk from car park difficult for people who have difficulty carrying luggage some distance.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a fantastic stay in Santiago de Compostela for my husband & I at the completion of our 14-day Camino! The hotel is conveniently located in the historical downtown area (near the edge where the business/downtown area begins, but still within the historical streets & a few minutes' walk to the Cathedral & shops/restaurants/museums. It is also conveniently located about 10 min. easy walk to the train station, which we had to take back to Madrid. Located on the 3rd level of the building, there is elevator or stair access from a nice quiet lobby (the rest of the building seemed to be residential apartments?). The reception area of Mapoula is very nicely decorated with warm but modern décor, with a seating area around the reception desk, & then a dining area & kitchen/breakfast buffet area around the corner. Everything was very clean. Included in our stay was the continental breakfast buffet (it would have been well worth the 4€ I think it was listed separately for anyway): there is a selection of pastries & cakes (apple, Santiago/almond?, meats & cheeses, soft boiled eggs, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit, etc. available at the buffet. They bring you fresh squeezed orange juice & a basket of freshly toasted breads & croissants to your table. The mugs for hot tea & coffee are in a heated carousel. Everything was immaculately clean & service was great. The only very slight negative here was they only put a small amount of fresh fruit out. My husband wanted a banana but the second day noticed someone had taken the last (only?) one (& actually ended up not finishing it!)...to their credit we didn't ask them for more, & perhaps they would have brought more out if we did. Our room was just off the reception area, through an extra door/small entry area, along with another room. The lighting was automatic & bright, which I love (some hotels are so dark & dim). In the room, everything was very modern, yet cozy (love the one stone accent wall). There was air conditioning & recessed ceiling/behind the bed lighting. The bathroom was larger than most we had stayed at throughout our Camino (we stayed in hostals & pensions, not albergues!) & everything was immaculate, comfortably decorated, great water pressure/heat in the shower, lighting overhead as well as the vanity area, etc. (Here the one small negative was their towels, white medium/large bath towels with Mapoula stiched/printed across the bottom in red letters, were a little old. You could see the fraying begin around the edges of the ones we had day 1 & 3 of our stay. Day 2 the towels they gave us were a little newer. Everything was very clean, though.) Our room window had 2 layers of shutters, inside sheer curtains & outside automatic shutters (as are customary in Spain). There were no views since we were close to other buildings, but being on the 3rd level, we could see across the small pedestrian alley to a rooftop & no windows directly across. Also, laundry service was a plus!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything! We were skeptical that it's called a hostal; but, it really was a hotel. Very cute room with great shower. The breakfast was fine with great coffee. The staff was wonderful. The day we left we went very early. They offered to bring us up a breakfast tray the night before...the thermos of coffee stayed hot. The location was excellent in the old city. Thanks to everyone!

Cons: The furniture need to be changed because it’s getting old. Cleaning should include even the outside of the windows because it hadn’t been cleaned for months or years. We wished for more friendly environment but this hotel doesn’t provide that.

Pros: The staff were very helpful and the room spotlessly clean.
Cons: I paid an additional premium for a soundproofed too. And there clearly isn’t any. The man in the room next door snored so loudly that I had to change rooms. You can easily hear next doors conversations and tv and it isn’t as quiet as advertised.

6.8 Good
Pros: I like the nice welcome from the night staff that was extremely helpful bringing food and toothbrush. It’s a great location and the building was very beautiful.
Cons: I didn’t like I was promised a balcony and a city view when I booked the hotel. The pictures of the room on the website didn’t match at all to what I got. Instead of a balcony and city view I got a room on the top floor with a window in the selling with cero city view. I told the reception when I was checking out but they didn’t believe me that my booking had said balcony and city view. And the didn’t offer any type off discount or anything. Maybe it’s booking.com that have to look trough your website and make sure that u give the right information that is equal to what the hotels offer.

Pros: The hotel is so central, minutes walk for most attractions. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful both at check in and check out. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.

Pros: It is one of the best hotels I stayed in my three weeks in Northern Spain! Excellent location: so close to the major sites. Cafes, bars, and restaurants abound within a stone's throw. The restaurant (Bierzo) across from the hotel on the quieter street was very good. Staff was very helpful and friendly. They helped me get my laundry done for a reasonable price. The staff tending the breakfast was very helpful and prompt.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was great and location was perfect.
7.4 Good
Pros: The location was wonderful. The architecture is very interesting and the rooms comfortable.
Cons: The atmosphere is a bit cold and the wifi access was dreadful.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast very good and location.
Cons: The shower hose kept falling done. Expensive for what you got.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to the cathedral, next to the San Francisco church in the center of the city. Historical, interesting building, nicely rebuilt to hotel. Comfortable, good looking and clean rooms and common spaces. Great to be able to relax with swimming pool and jacuzzi after the camino. Good breakfast.
Cons: Nothing really, but perhaps it would be even better in terms of sustainability to avoid the little bottles for shampoo, shower gel etc? And perhaps even more English speaking channels on the tv, Cnn, Bbc.. (or did I miss something?). The breakfast could perhaps also have an even better selection of healthy, nutritious bread and cereals. But again, small things.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and history of the building.
Cons: Staff were not very helpful.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Peaceful, historic building imaginatively adapted; kind and helpful staff. Fabulous location near to the Cathedral and medieval town. No traffic! Pool and terrace a good antidote to the busyness of the fiesta.
Cons: A view - but the size of the room and huge bathroom with jacuzzi more than compensated!
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful old monastery, great staff and the location is perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staying in an historical building so close to the Cathedral was a fantastic experience. The staff were very helpful, the room nice and spotless, and ours had a view over the pretty square in front of the ex-convent. We found the parking with valet service very convenient. The choice of breakfast food was excellent - meats, eggs, cheeses, fruit, cakes, they had it all. The whole package was much better value than the Parador.
Cons: This is just nitpicking, but the water in the otherwise excellent pool was too warm for proper swimming - one gets too hot too soon. I suppose it's the perfect temperature for a simple dip though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful buffet breakfast.
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: The elevators

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was overall excellent however I requested scrambled eggs which were described as being with toasted bread, in fact they were served with a couple of small breadsticks? As there were toast making facilities available, No problem. The restaurant is very good.
Cons: Some of the facilities were overcrowded with non-residents meaning we could not use the cafeteria or bar at our desired time and there was nowhere to sit in the lounge. Note: It was raining some of the time so we understand the need for people to seek cover, but..............
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This historic hotel (15th century) was exceptionally luxurious! Everything about it made you feel lime royalty in a castle. In fact, the hotel is an actually museum as well, so it was special to stay there and have access to many of the spaces inside this original hospital-hostel for pilgrims arriving at the tomb of St. James. The staff was equally impressive: kind, welcoming, helpful.
Cons: There really was not anything that I did not like because the hotel and my room exceeded my expectations. Also, the hotel offered a wide range of services, including laundry service and room service.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Ideal location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was our second stay, following our walking the Caminho Portuguese from Porto. The building and decorations are magnificent! the fancy buffet breakfast was elegant and delicious.
Cons: The third floor ceilings and art work were much nicer than the 4th floor, which we had this time. This time we also did not have a view of the Cathedral, which we had four years ago. So in the future I'll request the 3rd floor, with a Cathedral view, if possible. We'll be back.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Superb atmospheric old building, incredible view of cathedral (I asked for a room with a view when booking), luxury breakfast which included cava!
Cons: Slightly dodgy WiFi in our room, kept slipping off the network
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Historic building, fantastic room and bathroom.
Cons: It has the space for further facilities like a spa.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very grand and forms one whole side of the main square adjacent to the cathedral and you can sit on the terrace with a glass of your choosing and just gaze at the architecture and watch the happy and exhausted pilgrims pouring in and celebrating their accomplishments. The room too was excellent. I'd had a poor experience at another Parador and my expectations were low so I was very pleasantly surprised here; large, quiet and very comfortable. Breakfast was comprehensive and the the restaurant excellent, both architecturally and gastronomically.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and history was outstanding.
Cons: Finding how to get to the hotel was difficult. More direction on entering the plaza would have been helpful.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing historical hotel in a fantastic, unbelievable location, which alone made the stay worthwhile. Our rooms were off a beautiful inner courtyard and everything was spotless and the breakfast was excellent with many delicious choices
Cons: Staff was busy, hurried and impersonal (which may be understandable considering they interact with so many people) but remained efficient

4.5 Okay
Pros: The location is the only thing that is worthy although it diesnt have parking
Cons: When we arrived, the room bathroom light was off and we used it quickly before going out. When we turned on the light we saw the whole toilet full with dried blood and poop. A really terrible experience. They apologized and changed one room but that is all they dis. We will never come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had some self-imposed logistical issues, but Romero at the hotel was so helpful. He allowed us to check-in early and also to keep a package at the hotel for a few days past our stay. He even mailed a postcard for us. It made our issue really go away!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very central and clean, good for a short stay to visit Santiago. You can walk to the Historical Center and take about 10 minutes to arrive the Cathedral.
Cons: Breakfast was poorest than I expected. Less bread variety than expected, with no brown bread. Also the scranbled eggs were cold when I took them from the crossbeam. Also at the entrance, we didn't have help to make the 5 steps until the elevator at the check-in moment, when we have heavy luggage. Is should have a system to pass these 5 steps rolling with the luggage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent and give us a super service, next time in Santiago I will stay at Hotel Compostela
