Decor rather delapidated in the rooms dingy colours but seem to be in the process of upgrading in the corridors new floors and paper.
The staff and breakfast were excellent - they went above and beyond to help and meet our dietary requirements (gluten and lactose free required). Rooms were spacious and well cleaned and eveything worked. Wifi was brilliant and very fast enabling streaming of movies etc. Sports facilities next door were exceptionally good - we used them everyday. Sardinero beach (five minutes walk) is one of the best I have ever been on - a mile of pure fine golden sand with full lifeguard cover, cleaned every night and very safe to swim. Beachside restaurants of very high standard and great value. The hotel is away from the main part of the city, being close to Sardinero beach, but easily accessible to it and its vibrant bars and restaurants, cultural entertainments, casino and fabulous shopping - all well worth visiting. Spain has kept Santander a well hidden secret from us for too long and I will definitely be returning.
Would have been nice to have one just English speaking TV channel (News?) as all were in Spanish but this is a very minor point. However, I did expect there to be tea/coffee making facilities in the hotel room in a four star hotel and there were none, so was a bit surprised by this but the fridge and minibar was well stocked. Also, it is not the prettiest of buildings to look at - quite stark - and inside the decor is a bit dated but everywhere was scrupulously clean. All these points were minor and more than made up for by the very friendly, efficient, helpful and English speaking staff - they couldn't do enough for you.
Not a lot
Hard Bed Not enough pillows No water in room No tea and coffee in room
The room was very spacious. The, shower excellent. The location near the beach... about 300 metres to walk was really good. Also short distance to ferry port only 5 or 6 minute drive and, easy to find. Swimming pool in the sports centre next door was very good.
The reception was great, both day manager and night manager were very helpful. Provided directions for local bars and restaurants.
Spacious rooms, big beds and nice staff
The furniture presented high usage signs and definitely need some improvements
