Clean, nice decor, central location
Room was very dark (no natural light and insufficient lighting)
Everything was Perfect!
Quirky hotel with literary theme, which was fun particularly the amenities (e.g. old fashioned typewriter to use while there). NOTE: NO REFRIGERATOR or MICROWAVE OVEN, although we could have had a refrigerator sent up for an additional fee which was quite a surprise to us. Adding a microwave was not an option. The room was smaller than expected and with only one desk and one chair, difficult to have access to luggage. One closet but no dresser or other drawers and no place other than desk, one regular-sized night table and one tiny night table on which to put our things. Three lights were ok, but still a bit dark. The best thing about the lights was that each of them could serve as nightlights with the dimmers on each. Bathroom was nice size. Staff were very helpful, although twice we were told where to go for a great view of the City for dinner/light fare. However, one place wouldn't be open for two months (maybe under renovation?) and the other didn't exist.
No refrigerator or microwave oven in the room. Having to pay extra for a refrigerator, though with the size of our room, not sure where it would have fit. Microwave was not an option. Staff better informed about suggesting places for dinner.
Relaxing atmosphere. Have cool no amenities. Like diffusers for room
I loved the eclectic style and decor of the hotel. It was fun, particularly if you are into literature. I also liked the little touches - books in armoire, good quality toiletries, filtered water available in hall with cookies and lemon/lime slices. Staff was really friendly too! Amenities were great too - the bar is cool and the cafe adjoining it had amazing coffee and healthy food options. I also enjoyed the central location. Everything was so close (e.g., around the corner from Union Square, mile to Ferry Building, good restaurants within blocks on either side, etc.).
My only real issue related to my specific room. It was room 216 which is second floor above Sutter Street. I am a pretty deep sleeper, but it was really loud at both ends of my sleep (8-12pm and after about 5am). I had ear plugs and even downloaded a white noise app to block it out. I would stay here again, certainly, but would probably request a different room. Additionally, the room was super small (just enough to clear the bed at the end and a few feet to the left of the bed. It would be tight for 2 people moving around at the same time).
