Historic
The beds were comfortable. Walking distance from several shops and restaurants. We took a scooter to the mall, but we could have walked. The bar staff was great! Cocktails were unique. We valet parked but free parking around back was avaliable, first come first serve. The room had a view of the courtyard that was lovely. I really didn't hear too much road traffic and the blackout curtains worked like a charm.
This only issue we had was there was no bottled water or water of any kind available. Coffee pot in the room, check! But only tap water to fill it with, I'm thinking this a GREEN thing? I totally respect that but maybe have a water station or something to fill up with. P.S., the bar and restaurants are closed on Sunday, not a real issue, just FYI.
Phenomenal Historic Hotel
The staff is truly great. The Fairmount has a a new bar and restaurant - I tried one of their signature drinks and it was amazing! The towels are lush (not like most hotels) and the atmosphere in the rooms is quaint. This was our second stay here and we will definitely be back again!
The only negative item would be that a little routine maintenance on the wallpaper in the bathroom should occur.
Old Fashioned to a Fault
Location
Furniture is old and chairs look like they will break if you sit in them. All the upholstery looks dingy and dirty. Cracks in walls and floors. Poor overall look.
It was interesting
It was nice knowing that we were staying in a hotel 110 years old. There were some beautiful parts to it, while others just didn't make sense (a phone in the bathroom, that was not connected, nor did it have a place to connect) We really liked the wooden floors in the room & that we could control the temperature in the room. No big air conditioning unit making a ton of noise when on - so that was great.
When we checked in, my husband was trying to surprise me w/champagne waiting in the room. That was completely ruined by the girl who checked me in & she didn't even feel bad about it. On top of that, she kept asking if we wanted it in the room already & we told her yes, several times. We get to the room & 20 mins. later, still nothing. Finally my husband called & she still asked: you want your champagne now? Eventually, it shows up, but the "boy" didn't bring the glasses to drink from. 10 mins. later, he brings us wine glasses, instead of champagne flutes. We just gave up asking for anything else. My husband was very disappointed that he didn't get to surprise me properly (it was first time being away from our baby in 2 years) & the staff didn't seem to care. As for the room, it didn't look like it was cleaned properly. I found long blond hairs on the floor (I have short dark hair), some small yellow balls in the corner of the room - by the bed, & the bed sheets could probably have used a change. We slept on top of them. Also, my husband was bit by some scary white bug we've never seen before. It was nasty. Thank God he's ok though. I'm just glad we went through kayak & didn't pay the price the hotel thinks it's worth.
