The location was great, and Cacaia and Henrique were very welcoming and happy to try to help despite not speaking English. It is very clean and breakfast is good.
You need to Ring the Bell for them to let you in, in one instance we sat outside for 15 minutes ringing every few minutes as they cannot hear the bell when they’re downstairs, eventually we were the only guests and they gave us the key to come and go as we please.
The location in the middle of Santa Teresa, wich is , in my opinion, the most lovely neighborhood of Rio.
When I was there, there was a constant construction going on with a lot of noise and dust, wich they 'forgot' to tell me. They are smoking 24/7 and this smell also comes into the room. Henrique keeps trying to hug and kiss you, wich feels very uncomfortable.
+ Safe area + good Location + really nice staff + breakfast
- wifi Connection not the best
A great location in the heart of Santa Teresa. In Copacabana we were warned that Santa Teresa can be dangerous, but we felt very safe and had no problems! The owners were very kind and helpful. We tried to get an Uber to the airport at 4am and couldn’t, so one of the owners took us for 70 Rs and saved us!
Te shower was a little too cold for me!
Warm shower - but above the toilet.. Location Breakfast Price
I'll start by saying this hostel is a lot cheaper than other places near by so we weren't expecting a lot... but it simply doesn't live up to what is advertised. Which isn't fair when you are arriving in Rio for a once in a life time experience. First of all of it wasn't for the taxi we wouldn't have found it other than the door number. If you had to walk from the metro I think you would struggle to find it. When you do find it the bell doesn't seem to work - if you are lucky some of the family members will usher you in after a bit of a wait. The owners smoke all day right in the reception. So they will see you but you have to go through a wall of smoke to get in. We also had to pay cash not card as advertised! and it was taken within 2 minutes of arrival -Complete joke - having 5 days in cash to pay is just not on when you're traveling long term it’s hard enough to get cash out in brazil without the hostel taking all of it. We booked this over other options simply because we thought we could use MasterCard... The room we had was down a narrow and fairly dangerous staircase especially in the dark at the bottom you have to avoid the dog and it's mess. The dog also was not advertised. The room is like a shipping container (not in a cool way) with a cupboard that houses a toilet with a shower hanging over it. I have used wet rooms before but this version simply doesn't work it is far too small you have to sit on the toilet to shower. Our room/bathroom was not shown on the pictures The sink is next to the bed and smells like drains/sewage. The breakfast is great for the price but the dog puts you off a bit whilst it scavenges for leftovers. The room won't be cleaned even if you stay for a while and you have to empty your own toilet bin. The entry system is a nightmare you have to watch a demonstration on how to use the key which has to be held in a certain way.
