The hotel is very central and convenient but it is very noisy at night.
Very noisy and no air con! Rooms in the summer are roasting. One medium fan provided but we had to ask for a second and this just made it bearable but had to leave the windows open, which made it even noisier. Reception staff friendly and efficient but the bar is old and tired, and the bar staff not very welcoming or friendly, it seemed it was a little inconvenient to ask for drinks. Not a bad hotel but not great. Beds are comfy and room is fair size and cleaned to a reasonable standard, but no wow factor.
The location of the hotel is great - in the center of Reading . The staff are friendly and efficient and the rooms comfortable and quite new.
The interior of the hotel is like a maze and difficult to navigate. It is however a 500 year old building. There is no lift so if you have heavy bags don't get a room on the upper floors.
Good location, good price, good value, nice character
This was great value for money, the location was incredible. I tried so many different restaurants and explored the riverside. I literally did not need a taxi for anything as it was all on my doorstep.
The bathroom was a little difficult to maneuver in, but seriously not an issue as I'm tiny anyway, but would be tough for a larger person.
The staff are great and the hotel is very good. Easy check in/out. I've had no issues getting in very late after a few drinks. I've stayed here before. Great Location for the bars/pubs etc.
The room was very hot even with the window open. fotunately there was an oscillating fan which helped. Three of the four down lights in the bathroom were not working and I needed to be a contortionist to navigate around the toilet pan and use the bath/shower. Not enough hot water available
Considered by many to be the oldest building in Reading, the historic Mercure George Hotel is said to date back as far as 1423. Complete with original features, including the original timbers in the main entrance, the hotel provides a throwback to the city's great and varied heritage. The stylish bedrooms each have a private modern bathroom, while modern facilities are provided throughout. Guests can also enjoy authentic Italian cuisine in Prezzo restaurant.
