The Old Port location was excellent, it was within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see and do, and just two blocks from the harbor. There were numerous restaurants and bars within just a few blocks, as well as interesting shops, many of which showcased Maine artists or companies. The breakfast offered by the hotel was good, with lots of fresh food, including different locally sourced breads. The staff at the desk was friendly, courteous and very helpful.
Since the weather was cool, it was a bit too cold to eat breakfast in the area close to the desk, because the first entry door was always open. That's about the only thing that needs improvement, which says a lot about the quality of this hotel!
Room was beautifully appointed and well thought out - the view was wonderful! The bed was quite comfortable for a hotel bed, and the bathroom was clean, modern and fresh. Because of the glass sliding door for the bathroom, the one issue was that you might disturb a fellow traveler when the light was turned on at night. Suggestion is to have some sort of night light that would provide enough light for safety, but not disturb the sleeping guests. After our stay here, we purchased our own night lights to use in the future.
The breakfast was somewhat lacking in selection and freshness....or so I thought.... but compared to the other two hotels in which we stayed on our trip up the coast, it was actually the best of all. I suggested to the front desk personnel that they need to tell the breakfast servers to put the silverware into the containers with the handles up - and not the other way - because it is very unsanitary to take silverware that may have been touched by another person. Another woman at the front desk agreed with me, when it was mentioned. The front desk person said that they have told them to do this before.... now as a written observation by a customer, perhaps they may realize that it is very important!!
From check in to check out we were treated like VIP's. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The room was great, the breakfast was exceptional, location was great. We asked at check in for some restaurant suggestions and the places that were recommended were fantastic. We'll be back!
Easy walking distance of all the main sites and downtown areas.
Rooms were very dated, plus a bit dark and gloomy. We were in a suite so were expecting more for our money, especially when paying $400+ just for one night.
Within walking distance of major attractions. Very clean.
