Nice large bed. Decent location.
Not enough lighting in the room. No tea making facilities in the room. Large mirror required in better lighting Room needed to be sound proofed as could hear traffic, commotion outside the hotel which lead to poor sleep. Didn't like the fact that on our first day, the receptionist asked to keep our hotel key in case we lost it..... no other member of staff asked for this for the duration of our stay. I have never been asked to leave a room key before in any of the hotels around the world I have stayed in. Very odd indeed!!
Good beds and pillows. The air-conditioning was excellent.
Kind staff, convenient location
Open bath in first room despite specifically requesting a shower
The hotel is very close to the Bastille and easy to get to by metro when arriving at Gare du Nord. It is conveniently situated at the edge of Le Marais, and although the Bastille area is busy we felt more at ease than at our usual place close to Centre Pompidou where you are overrun by tourists. The staff was very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay and we liked how they had been able to change a small standard room with some creativity into the "Enchanted Forest" room. Curious to find out which room we will end up in during our next stay :-) Breakfast was basic but good and much better quality/price than you will find anywhere in Paris if you go find it in the average cafe/bistro. Wifi connection was good.
The room was New York style small and although the bath tub in the front of the room is geeky, it took a lot of space and personally we prefer a standing shower (hotel staff is now aware of our preference for when we book next!). Due to a bank holiday the room rates were pretty high and close to where one could start questioning value for money. Just be aware that the hotel is located at a very busy boulevard and when opening the windows the noise of traffic can be overwhelming. However, with windows closed you practically don't hear any noise.
Pretty big room (for Paris standards)
Very Poor Breakfast (in a very small dining corridor)
The building of the Hotel Original as well as n°2, 4 and 6 of boulevard Beaumarchais have been built on the site where the writer had his particular hotel. This particular hotel has been constructed on the embankments of Canal St.Martin a channel that permit to join the north-east of Paris to the Seine by the maritime way.
