Pros: Nice and gentle staff. Really nice onsen especially 11/F and superb dinner & breakfast. The room is nice with full of facilities.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Best for onsen experience only
7.1 Good
Pros: We've experienced the traditional Japanese culture during the day we stayed in the hotel. The dinner we reserved was wonderful. The town is quite as peaceful.
Cons: The roof and the door's opening are too law for my husband we is 186 tall, he hit his head several times when he was at his careless moment.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We like staying there we try japanase style room and we were enjoy there and love it . The private onsen was great and very clean. The staff very helpful.
Cons: We did not like the dinner .
9.2 Excellent
Pros: There are convenient bus shuttle services to and from nearby train stations. The staff is extremely helpful and always polite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was brilliant especially if you like seafood. The room was a very nice Japanese style room. The onsens were fabulous.
Cons: The price is steep but I guess that’s how much a lovely ryokan experience costs.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s authentic onsen experience, its a wide selections (6) of pools, it’s real ryokan luxury
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely Kaiseki dinner and authentic Japanese breakfast was provided. The staff were considerate to remember my request for specific meal plan (no beef and pork) as one of my family members requested so. We expected to eat in our room but had our meals in the restaurant instead as our room only had one room. As such, staff came and set up the bedding in our tatami room when we were having our meal. The room though old, was impeccably clean. The indoor bath on the second floor was old but big and clean. The outdoor bath on the 5th floor was incredible and the locker/powder room area was big, warm and clean. The bath on the 8th and 11th floor were smaller than expected but still great to soak. While the bath on the 8th and 11th floor have a view of the lake, it must be noted that Yumotokan is still a distance away from the lake, as such, we could only see the lake in the distance. On the day of the check-out, we did not know that the shuttle bus to the station operated at certain timings only. The staff called us 2 taxis due to the amount of luggage we had. However, 1 taxi could only arrive 20 minutes later, which was too late for us as we had a train to catch. The staff asked us if we were alright with taking just 1 taxi (which could arrive 10 minutes earlier), but shared that one of us would have hug the extra suitcase due to the lack of boot space. We told them we were okay with that as it was only a 5 minute car ride to the station. However, the staff decided that that was not okay for us and found one of the front desk staff who was licensed to drive the shuttle to ferry us to the station. This was such a kind and generous gesture and we were so touched by it! Really thankful to the front desk staff at Yumotokan who helped us catch our train on time! This was our first onsen inn experience and the service standard and cleanliness standard of the hotel shone through.
Cons: It was difficult that many of the staff around the hotel could not speak English. However, they really really tried their best to help us and answer our queries. Really appreciate that! (Front desk staff were more equipped in speaking English though)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything else was great. You have a choice of 3 hot springs each night or the option to book one of two private ones, The two open air one alternate gender each night, then there are two indoor ones for each gender, with two private ones you can choose to book Shuttle service from otogo onsen station was a life saver for us having a few bags, (3rd week of a 5 week trip.).
Cons: The tv was old. Wifi signal was really weak, and didnt work for all of our devices

Pros: The food was amazing, the staff was friendly, kind and were genuinely interested in making my experience a good one. Will recommend to friends and come back again in the future.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic food and very detail-oriented staff. We were offered different dinner and breakfast options throughout our 2 night stay. Note that drinks are extra. Public, open-air, and private Onsen (extra 2700 fee per 50 minutes) are all very nice and clean. Traditional Japanese room was very comfortable and quiet. Not very busy during our stay (start of January).
Cons: Note that the hotel does not have laundry facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great staff and onsen experience
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Awesome hotel! We booked the new open-air onsen room and it was amazing! Highly recommend to whoever what to experience private onsen in the room. The public bath was a bit small but clean and tranquil. Food was excellent.
Cons: Nothing really... I wish the room itself could be larger.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and dinner are great, onsen is superb, and staff are very friendly. The overall services are excellent and unique, they sent email to confirm my date of stay and other needs week before my check in, and picked me up at the Ogotoonsen train station when I arrived. The front desk sent hotel’s post card for me free when I checked out. Thanks!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly friendly and the shuttle picked us up in less than five minutes from the time we called them from the station. They had English speaking staff that communicated the customs of staying at a ryokan and let us know of all the amenities available to us. They were able to arrange a really good massage for us in less than a hour of checking in on very short notice. Staff was amazingly friendly and provided excellent service. The kaiseki dinner was delicious as well as breakfast. Everything was so well presented and all facilities were extremely clean. After dinner, I basically had the onsen to myself which was amazingly relaxing. I would stay here again to experience a ryokan.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Helpful and polite staff. Food was great and staff went out of their way to explain different food items during dinner. Despite ongoing renovations, noise was kept to a minimum.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was splendid. Great view from the room, lots of space, much care for details. Dinner was an amazing experience, breakfast also in a league of its own. The hot spring was highly relaxing and did wonders to our skin. Also transfer to and from the train station and the check-in were handled in the smoothest manner. Also the front desk and restaurant personnel all spoke more than enough English, no trouble communicating at all.
Cons: A/C only worked in heating mode at one set temperature. This will probably change with the season, although temperature adjustment would have been nice.

Pros: My room was located on the 12/Fl. It has gorgeous lake view. The Japanese breakfast was very very yummy.
Cons: The area is really quiet, only 1 cafe near the hotel & nothing more....... You can only find restaurants in Otsu JR station or around Keihan Biwako Hall station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast is good. There is excellent lake scenery from balcony. Its room&bed&restroom met my request with quiet&clean.
Cons: Hot Spring is good. But little boy can go into lady‘s only place, which was surprised and not good experience for my friends. All women were naked at pool and so the boy, which made my friends embarrassed.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location overlooking the Lake. It is worth staying at this reasonable price. Like any hotel in Japan, it costs extra to use the pool which is a bit ridiculous. Especially considering the pools often aren't very good anyway. The onsen was really nice and beautiful outlook over the lake.
6.7 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was awesome, spacious and clean. The staff were friendly and nice. The onsen was clean and good - so comfortable for a nice soak even though it was summer time! The ohmi beef shabu shabu served during dinner was just gorgeous. Lastly, my parents loved the buffet breakfast. It was their first experience and they were totally floored by it! Thank you!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service is impeccable, the Onsen is a huge treat - especially as I had not done it before - but the dinner was the highlight for me, personally. Absolutely fantastic meal - I would implore anyone to book the dinner with their reservation.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was impressive and wonderful. 24 hours public bath and free drinks and ice sticks were also satisfying. What’s more, you can take their shuttle bus from or to the JR station, which is very convenient.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast were superb. The public onsen was very clean and aesthetically appealing. The room was big and the staff could communicate in basic English.
Cons: We were not informed during check in nor were there room notices in English that check out time was 10am. We were surprised to get a call after going back from breakfast that we had to vacate the room by 10:15am. We rushed changing and packing, and did not get to enjoy the room in the morning. Also, the picture of the onsen tub seemed to be big, enough for two people. But in reality, it is just enough for one tall person.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: They need to have a king size bed room with lake view (Private bath)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a 3 month old baby and the staffs were very considerate and provided amenities that made our stay, including the baby, very comfortable and enjoyable.
Cons: Not so close (or accessible) to the lake as I initially thought.
7.5 Good
Pros: Hot spring in room
Cons: Dinner because the beef was not enough.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was amazing, onsen manager was super friendly I would highly recommend to stay here!!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: everything in the hotel
Cons: our room is not clean enough (602). We could see lots of dirty stuffs in the room, such as a dirty box on the ground nearby refrigerator, and lots of dust on the Tatami in the room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and the hospitality was incredible. The shuttle bus was convenient and went to pick us up even late in the evening. The breakfast was great as well!
Cons: The only thing which was a bit difficult was finding somewhere to eat outside the hotel. There was nothing within walking distance, but the tourist attractions were all reachable by train though.

6.3 Good
Pros: - Staff was nice - Room was good
Cons: - The "view on the lake" is not really as described - There was cockroaches and insects in the onsen....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good. Shuttle bus was great. But not much scenery outside window (at least in my room).
Cons: I thought there would be lake scenery but it was very more like a slice of the lake.
6.7 Good
Pros: the dogs are super cute
Cons: the open-air private bath lacks privacy as it is surrounded with buildings. Also, the hot spring in the private bath was not warm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very authentic experience of traditional ryokan. Loved the bath in room and at the rooftop. Pretty interior, big room, yukata, tea. Interesting and cute town, very friendly personal, picked us up from station and brought us back, japanese breakfast
Cons: Limited english, except one receptionist, but it didnt hinder the communication:) the town a bit empty, not a lot of food choices or much to see but for one or two days enough:) Considering the building there is specific smell, but it didnt bother much. Price for the private bath is a bit much in my opinion but i still loved the experience. But In overall we had amazing stay!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service was outstanding, the staff were very welcoming and always friendly. The food was delicious and the baths though only 2 public ones, were comfortable for soaking. The private pool in our room was superb for anyone not wanting to use the public baths.
Cons: Wasn't much to see or do close by. Only 2 public onsen pools for each sex, they are probably the same in design which is probably why they don't swap them around.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good staff service, very nice food.
Cons: Location, not walkable distance to the train station
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing staff, super friendly and accomodating. Rooms are traditionally decorated. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding. The onsen facilities were great. The room we had had its own onsen which made things easier.
7.9 Good
Pros: Baths were great. Room was clean and spacious. Dog friendly hotel. They have two shibas there.
Cons: Shuttles are only certain times a day. That schedule should have been posted on their site or here. Would have been better if shuttle operated more frequently.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The friendliness and service from the staff made the stay incredibly pleasant. Very relaxing atmosphere, excellent food, and convenient pickups from the nearby station!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Staff very friendly but could not speak english
Cons: Requested for high floor and dinner in room. Instead was the only guest on ground floor and dinner at private dining area. The open bath and shower in the room was facing the road and people walking pass can look in amid some bushes.

Pros: The wonderful view is highly appreciated.
Cons: No
7.9 Good
Pros: The room with a fantastic view is spacious, clean and silent.
Cons: We were disappointed to the dinner buffet at the 37/F Biona. Hotel only offered us 1.5 hrs for a dinner buffet, and there were no sushi, no sashimi provided in a Japanese hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Partner is an avid fisherman so of course after a week or so in the cities we needed some time near the water. Beautiful lake, nice to walk around. Staff were incredibly helpful, rooms were large, buffet breakfast was nice on the 38th floor.
Cons: The “souvenir shop” downstairs was a bit dated. A shame the pool wasn’t open as only open in “summer” months, and was still very hot (27-28 degrees)
7.9 Good
Pros: Hotel rooms were nice and view of the lake was spectacular. Staff were fantastic
Cons: Breakfast was very expensive and the gym and the pools were closed despite it saying they were open on the website
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We had 3 wonderful days here. We paid a little extra for a higher floor and the views were spectacular- not only of the lake, bridges and mountains but also of swooping hawks and a dramatic thunderstorm. The hotel shuttle to the train station every half hour was reliable and convenient. The lakeside walk is lovely, a large supermarket was adjacent to the hotel and a department store with an excellent ground-floor food section is 10-15 mins walk. The room was spacious and well equipped including an excellent Japanese-style bathroom with a separate toilet. Excellent value. We hope to return.
Cons: Servicing of room was hit and miss: we only received tea supplies on the final day. One day we returned to our room mid-afternoon and our room had not been serviced. Also, very rigid check in times. Instead of checking whether a room was available, arrivals are automatically told to store their luggage till checkin time- this creates queues and unnecessary wait times when checkin time begins. We have noted with pleasure that many Japanese hotels are now a little more flexible with early arrivals, thus reducing checkin queue times and customers’s frustration. Just minor quibbles in a lovely stay.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: It would be better to change pillows. They smell a bit.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel and staff were lovely Pity the pool was closed
Cons: Everything

9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved our room so large for Japan. Great view of the lake and a fantastic breakfast. The indoor pool was a great bonus.
Cons: There really wasn't anything we didn't like. Just felt it would have been amazing with a bit of maintenance on the grounds.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: The room was big and beds very comfortable. Bathroom was big and well equipped, even though the sink was very low. The hotels shuttleservice was excellent.
Cons: Staff spoke very poorly English. As guests staying for 1 week, we only got one free entrence to spadepartement. Not treatment, but just to be in that part of hotell. The socalled western breakfast was poor. Europeans do not eat spaghetti for breakfast. The restaurants at the hotell seem to be very good, but dinner consisted only of a full package, very high price. And it was impossible to be just a little bit hungry. But there were good alternatives Close to hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the room is very comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is 100% worth the price. Room was big and clean. Bathroom was fantastic. 9.2 Excellent
Pros: Unobstructed view of Lake Biwa from the hotel. Polite staff who made efforts to communicate to non-japanese speaking guests. Easy to get to, even though its abit away from kyoto. There is a regular shuttle bus from the hotel and train station
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese Inn, private onsen (on the balcony overlooking the lake!), and traditional Japanese dinner in the room! Absolutely amazing! And the private valet was super nice! This was a great way to begin Golden Week before traveling to Kyoto!
Cons: Location is far from other amenities and entertainment - not a problem as we went just for the room and the private onsen. Would have been nice if there was an English menu so we could understand what we were eating during the traditional Japanese meal, but that added to the charm and the fun!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Flexible shuttle bus pick up service between the Ogoto Onsen Station and the hotel.
Cons: The hotel official website indicates that staying guests can choose having the Japanee dinner either in room or at dining hall. Regretfully during my two night's stay I was told in room diningbis not available. I believe staying guests are allowed to smoke in the room because the room is abundantly equipped with ashtrays. I did request for a non-smoking room but seemed to be meaningless.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice onsen with private bath in room. Excellent view from room.
Cons: Dinner could be better but breakfast was nice with lots of variety.

Cons: Maybe the price could have been a little bit lower. The station of the train was 20 minutes walking away but you could always use for free a bicycle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is my favourite option about View Lodge Biwa. Even more, it is why I chose this place to stay. The View Lodge Biwa is just about 20 meters from the lake. You can rent a bike for good price. The room is clean. Atmosphere inside is very calm. There is an onsen where you can relax. P.S. We were the first Russians staying at View Lodge Biwa! Historic moment! haha :D
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Attentive and friendly staff, clean environment, comfortable rooms, free bicycle rental.
Cons: Free shuttle service to the train stations would be good, as they are located some distance away from the lodge.

Pros: Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, the onsen is great too
Cons: Location is a bit out of the way but not in a remote beach hut way...Facing one way you're on the beach looking out on to the expansive Lake Biwa, beautiful, face the other way and it's suburbia!

Pros: Amazing sunrise view from the ladies panoramic bath overlooking Biwako, the staff was super friendly and helpful, there is a Lawson's on site, and the dinner was delicious (make sure you book with the room since the only other immediate option is the convenience store), shuttle service to the station
7.9 Good
Pros: lake view
Cons: no heater all in the resort n no adjustment of temperature in the room.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very kind and smiling. We had a big room with kitchen and fridge for our group. There was a parking nearby, 600 yens all night.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location--walkable to both JR Otsu and Keihan Hamaotsu Stations, Lake Biwa, & convenience stores--was excellent. We even saw a bit of the Sanno-Sai festival down the block one evening! Multiple showers, sinks, toilets, bunk beds, & trash receptacles were very practical/helpful. Microwave, toaster oven, washing machine, and heater/cooler all worked fine.
Cons: The decor had more of a Chinese flair than wabi-sabi, and the WiFi was spotty at times, especially on newer devices.
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: No
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: all was perfect! owner is very kind! thanks for all
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was awesome. The host was a bubbly lovely lady. Tea, coffee, whiskey and a onigari offered on arrival. Had the whole place to myself and one other guest. Sake bar downstairs. Sento only a few doors down.
Cons: There weren't quite enough sheets, etc for all beds in the shared hostel room, so I had to mix and match to find some things that fitted. Some storage stuff present, so a little messy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: family room: comfortable, 2 showers, 2 toilets, 3 sinks, laundry, toaster oven... great home base for a several days stay
Cons: more kitchenware and more seating if 6 people use the family room would be useful
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Located close to the station. Many restaurants around. Nice common area. It is small, but there is what you need.
Cons: Could not find a switch to turn of the lights in the corridor. Had to put a blanket to block the light.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We used the family room for 6, it has 3 sinks, 2 toilets and 2 showers, plus a washing machine, toaster oven, microwave, fridge... great facilities. Very close to hamaotsu train station, very convenient location for Kyoto and south lake Biwa area.
Cons: A bit more kitchenware, a few more seats may be good for groups of 6
7.5 Good
Pros: Owner was very nice and helpful. Great location, very close to tram station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice little guesthouse. The owner is very helpful and will do everything she can to provide for all your requests. (She took the time to take me to a doctor for my bad knee)

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpfull staff. Great breakfast.
Cons: Nothing
5.0 Okay
Pros: The free pick up from the station.
Cons: Paid 6000 for a room advertised as a twin however only one tiny thin cheap futon more like a quilt and flat pillow. Didn't't sleep at all. There are only 2 share toilets & shower cubicles down a dangerous steep narrow staircase to service 5 rooms. The walls appear to be homemade, you hear everything in the room next door. The room entry also has a dangerous step. Toilets & shower downstairs as an extra inconvenience. I find it impossible to read the suspect reviews, this place could never rate a 10 or excellent. I would give it a minus score. Their advertisement obscures the fact the rooms have no proper beds or toilets. There is no need to stay near Biwako ski resort as the train is onlt 40 minutes to Kyoto and value for money.
6.7 Good
Pros: People ware very friendly and helpful, they pick us up and send to all places where we go
Cons: Honestly the futon was uncomfortable and so tiny, felt like I’m facing the floor. I’m short but it would be terrible for tall people. And the location was inconvenient, there was no convenient stores, no chemists, no cafes.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff and breakfast
Cons: Pillows

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good staff
Cons: No complaints
6.7 Good
Pros: 1. the room is slightly bigger then the ones in other cities. 2. all necessities are provided.
Cons: 1. the hotel is a bit old 2. is a bit expensive as there is no facility (such as laundry)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Located very close to Seta Station which has convenience stores and ramen options nearby. There is also dry cleaning for your suits in the vicinity. The double room seemed more spacious than the photos would suggest! I would suggest not ordering the breakfast and choosing your options when you're there as you seem to give a flat rate on Booking.com whereas there are actually different tiers to the breakfast options which vary in pricing.
Cons: The thing to keep in mind for travelers is that the Special Rapid Service (新快速) does not stop at Seta. Keep this in mind as it will extend your travel time if heading over to Osaka and beyond (as you will need to transfer). Travelers heading to Kyoto don't really need to concern themselves about this as much.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The view from the room was nice.
Cons: The smoking area was located inside the reception room. The reception reeked of old cigarette smoke. People were also smoking there when we arrived. The staff had lost our booking. They then tried to allocate a smoking room. Then they allocated two rooms instead of four. Then they tried to charge us for four twin rooms. It took 20 minutes of waiting in a smoke filled room to check in. Just the worst check-in experience I have ever had. We did eventually get our booked rooms. But it took many views at my booking.com paperwork. We were allocated rooms on the non-smoking floor. But, you couldn't use the laundry, or visit reception, as they were all in the large smoking area. This could be a great hotel. Like the other APA hotels that I have stayed in. Instead, it was a foul smelling and disorganised establishment.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff Comfortable
7.5 Good
Pros: Near by station, good attitude and correspondence.
Cons: I understood it is location related but it is better to keep enough car parking.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Seta Urban is located very closely to JR Seta Station which is very nice. There are also restaurants and convenience stores right in the area too.
Cons: The single room felt slightly smaller than it seemed in the photo but nothing unreasonable at all. The bathroom I was in seemed to have a plumbing problem of some sort as I could hear water running the whole night... :(
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities are excellent. I only booked the day before and had to take a smoking room as the only one available, but the smell was not as bad as I feared and they supplied an air freshener that you could spray on to the drapes etc too.
Cons: Don't bother with the breakfast, it's not worth it.

5.0 Okay
Pros: location
Cons: I was surprised because of the dirty pillow (many small black feather). Also, refrigerator has no water. Staff cannot speak English although Otsu is a city for travel.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location
Cons: The water pot needs a stove to heat up water.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: To me, it was just what I needed, so I could say it was perfect: excellent location if you're traveling by train (literally above the railway tracks, but no specific noise to disturbe my stay), large room (double), very clean, very friendly and thoughtful employees, tasty food for breakfast, lunch and dinner also available, I really felt I was on vacation on the overall. Also has easy access to convenience stores. I do recommend it.
Cons: No such thing, or maybe just the tiny fact that I could not use the bed lamp next to my bed, but it might be because I did not take the time to read through the instructions on the console and just used one of the more obvious other options which also had control from the console (it was literally a console).
5.8 Okay
Cons: Facility is old, esp. the kettle and washing room. The room size is rather big comparing Osaka and Kyoto. The location I originally assumed is good, cause it just locates JR Otsu station. The fact is quite different. The hotel is on the south side of JR, all the stores, coffee shops and traffic are on oppsite side. Unless we take JR and purchase JR ticket, we couldnot cross JR as there is no free link way, we managed to show the hotel key to JR staff after JR trip, we could grab cups of coffee and re-enter station, and use the tickets to exit JR to hotel, who design this! Or we had to walk another enroute outside the building and JR rails. It was rather cubersome particularly during snow fall nights.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and the dinner and breakfast were excellent. Inexpensive and very tasty. The hotel is 0 (zero) minutes from the south exit of the station, so there could not be a more convenient place. It is not new, but I felt very comfortable.
Cons: The bed side lamp didn’t have a bulb in it, so I could read in bed. There was a message in Japanese about the pulsating of the LED light, but there was no light bulb there.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff at the desk was very friendly and helpful.
