9.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were clean, service was good. Breakfast was the best.
Cons: It was a little dated, but that didn't take away from the overall quality.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The onsen on our balcony was a plus and the staff tried their very hardest to ensure we had a comfortable stay. The view from our room was fantastic and for adults everything is within a reasonable walking distance.
Cons: There were no drying room facilities and no shuttle service. If I had a young family I would try to stay closer to the mountain if you were there for skiing.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: The accommodation itself. Onsen is great. Cleanliness is super.
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed, good location within walking distance of Main Street and mountain
Cons: Originally quoted $618 for a room for 2 people when I arrive they seemed confused and told me that a second person would cost extra. This resulted in the room then costing $1100 and 2 single beds were given
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stayed in the budget room for 2 nights - this was looking out the back of the hotel. I thought I would be disappointed as I have previously stayed in a luxury room facing the slopes, however the room was spacious and view was lovely, peaceful looking down the valley behind the hotel. Hotel onsen, indoor and outdoor have lovely views of Nozawa.
Cons: Lighting in the bathroom was a little dull, not bright enough.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the outdoor onsen of the hotel. The room had a private outdoor onsen, fantastic after a day on the slopes. I have stayed in the budget room as well as the luxury room and both are spacious. Very helpful staff at reception, assisted with recommending restaurants. Hotel is close to Shin-Yu chairlift for easy access to Hikage area. Good variety offered at breakfast. Each day a sample from the gift shop is placed in the room to try - cookie, chocolate, etc.
Cons: Nothing I didn't like.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice views
Cons: Dated, in need of a refresh

Pros: We've stayed in a number of places around nozawa onsen and the greater Nagano area for ski trips. The wafu Pension was by far our best stay. The location is ideal, the rooms and large clean and comfortable and the staff is wonderful. The ski Centric focus and facilities (dry room, ski locker) were a huge bonus. We look forward to visiting again!

Pros: The location was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The coffee machine was nice to get decent coffee from. Breakfast was a reasonable price and tasty. Maybe 4 minute walk to the bottom of Nagasaka gondola. Only a short walk down into the town center and Oyu onsen.
Cons: Having to pay for towels even though it was only ¥300.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic Location. Would highly recommend to anyone going to Nozawa for a holiday. Very close to the bottom of the mountain. Our hosts were really lovely!
Cons: The gear that we hired was okay, I'd probably hire gear from the mountain if I went again, but it was very affordable. Property was also a little tricky to find

Pros: Embedded into the village, this ryokan is tugged away into a quiet yet still close to restaurants, shops, and transportation. In walking distance to several local onsens where can mingle with the locals. An uphill walk of 10 minutes leads to the walkway that moves you up to the base of the ski area in another 5 minutes. The proprietors of the ryokan will do everything to make this your best stay. Rooms are comfortable but small. Japanese breakfast is offered in-house. Traditional dinner is available as well. Recommended!

Pros: A relatively easy walk to the moving walk to access the ski resort, the staff were impeccable and lovely. They were flexible with our check in time, gave lots of suggestions and even lent us cash when the atm’s were all closed and where we had just had dinner was cash only! The in hotel onsen was great and the beds were very comfy. Would highly recommend!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yukiko & her team went out of their way to accommodate us. We felt very welcome & comfortable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional service, the people are just lovely. It was great having an onsite onsen and another onsen just across the road. Great being able to have a cultural experience of a Japanese room. Varied breakfasts.
Cons: This place is very expensive for what you get. It is quite tired, more of a 2 star than a 3 star and in much need of renovations yet the price is what you would usually pay for a much higher standard of accommodation.

7.0 Good
Pros: Usually hotel rooms in Nozawa are cold but this hotel was very warm, which is great in this region. The location is great, right next to the city center.
Cons: The place has nothing really special. No onsen and western style rooms (in Nozawa, it might not be what you are looking for).
5.0 Okay
Cons: Breakfast was lettuce leaf, slice of ham, boiled egg and slice of tomato with juice. It was expensive for what it was. Room was not very clean.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable, a good central location just before the road narrows and with on-site parking.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Good location. Nice staff.
Cons: Breakfast is a very strict minimum service. Carpets haven't been changed since the creation of Nozawa apparently (so dirty). The overall value for money is incredibly low. Probably in the Japanese standard but paying so much for such thing is crazy (and sure I am because I did)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the town with easy access to slopes, restaurants etc. Friendly helpful staff.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We are happy to recommend this hotel to others. Only 80m from the central bus stop, we found the location a great compromise between transport, ski lift access, restaurants and shops. Our western room with bathroom were both adequate sizes and there was lots of thoughtful touches such as extra cushions, towel packs to take to the local onsen etc. They sell discounted vouchers for ski passes. The staff couldn't be nicer. The breakfasts were beautifully prepared every morning by the owner. Almost every guest in the hotel was Australian, including us !
Cons: There are steep stairs to the 3rd floor. The only disappointment was the hot water wasn't very hot.

Pros: The accommodation was pretty good and clean. Breakfast was pretty good, you have to get use to a bit of Japanese flavour. The Onsen was good and there wern't a lot of people staying when we were there. The host was very helpful with information.
Cons: There wasnt much to not like, you must be use to sleeping on futons.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great. Went out of the way to make a comfortable stay. Breakfast was fresh and delicious every morning
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mr Kado, our host, took the extra mile to make the place comfortable. He gave us valuable information of the area before our arrival, as we will be driving from Narita. We were concerned about the heavy snow and whether it was safe to drive there on our own. It was easy n the roads are well maintained despite the blizzards, snow are regularly cleared off the road, the roads are sprinkled with water so that the snow doesn't sets in. Even the whole village was bombarded by blizzard, one can still easily drive in and out of nozawa safely. Snow boots are prepared at the Inn, so that me n the kids can play in the snow without getting the foot wet. He also helped to shove the snow from our car, so that we can drive our car easily from heavy snow after parking overnight. And he bid us farewell, in his usual japanese bow, in the SNOW as we drive away upon our checkout. What a service.
Cons: Location is a bit out of the central town, but it has its own advantage. Place is crowded, especially if you are driving there. It has place for parking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Kadowakikan so much. The host and staff were so friendly and helpful giving great restaurant recommendations and lifts to the bus stop which was all very kind. The rooms are really spacious with lovely thick feather duvets to keep you toasty. The breakfasts were yummy and great for a day on the slopes. A few minute walk to the chair lift and you can ski back down also. The onsen was always very clean and much needed after a day skiing. Just a lovely place to stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff have gone out of their way to accommodate our needs.
Cons: The facilities are old but kept clean.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic place to stay. Felt traditional. Warm and comfortable. The owner could not have been more helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I normally don't do big reviews, however i have to for here. This place is awesome! First of all, The man who checked us in ( i wish i asked for his name ) was so friendly and helpful for our entire stay. He gave us some great tips on places to eat, discounted lift pass's, even a lift to the bus stop at the end of our stay. He was such a legend! The room was amazing, much bigger than our previous hotel, super clean, & we were lucky enough to have a great view of the town. The facilities are perfect, big drying room for snow gear, plenty of clean bathrooms and the best onsen i've come across in a hotel. They even had snow boots and umbrellas to borrow. It's also a really short walk to the ski lift so no need to worry about buses to the mountain. Overall it was the best place we stayed in our trip & cant wait to go back there.
Cons: Nothing. This hotel was the best choice i made all trip.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Ease of access to ski resort, just a walk up the hill and at the chair lift.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, close to the ski lifts and a short 15 minute walk into the main street of Nozawa Onsen. Very good service. Traditional Japanese room was large and comfortable with a stunning mountain view. Futon beds were great. Good value for money.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Seiko the lady looking after us was adorable and couldn’t have been more helpful and sweet. We really enjoyed our experience here.
Cons: The only problem we had was the bathroom wasn’t working when we were there. The Onsen/bath only had cold water.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely lady who looked after us. Fantastic location near centre of town and the slopes.
Cons: Nothing we weren’t expecting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The landlady was very very kind and always willing to help which made it and a homely and comfortable stay. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Heaters in the room worked well. Everything we needed was provided. Comfortable bedding and good sized room. Overall a very very warm stay.
Cons: Would have like to be able to lock the door but it was not a problem as the lady was downstairs and locked the main door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else! The little lady that ran it was so adorable and sweet! She helped us out as best she could! Bath was nice and hot after 5pm and she directed us to a cheap rental place!!
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was the price!! I guess you're paying for the location but the whole place is amazing!! Just not worth the amount.
7.0 Good
Pros: the best thing about this place is the location, right on the hill to the slopes.......the lady was very friendly however did not like her constantly walking into the room unannounced. the pillows and bed comfort was pretty bad but that was what we expected, the most disappointing thing was the lack of hot water in the cool little private onsen, i think she forgot nearly every day except one to turn on the heating system. yes a lot of negatives but i still would stay there again, a lot of character and the location made up for everything. in the heart of the town
Cons: lack of hot water and privacy, the pillows

10.0 Excellent
Pros: near to the ski lift
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, clean and cozy stay for an older Japanese style lodge. Shared bathroom was very clean and nice to use. Location was right next to the main gondola which made getting out skiing very easy! Breakfast was Japanese and western style and very tasty. Staff were phenomenal! The Japanese owner was very warm and welcoming and patient with our broken Japanese/English conversations. The younger English speaking staff were awesome people and super friendly :)
Cons: Walls were so thin it honestly sounded like there were none at all, but that’s to be expected in a lodge that style so wasn’t much of an issue. Japanese futon beds also took a little getting used to. Quite an uphill walk from the main town and bus stop but great for fitness haha. Breakfast is served at 7.30 sharp so you don’t have much of a choice for a sleep in but makes you get up for skiing so it’s not all bad!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very close to nagasaka gondola and a short walk to village centre.
Cons: Choice of breakfast for children between western and Japanese would have been nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Bathrooms and onsen were very clean.

Pros: Amazing meals, fluffiest Donna covers we have ever slept under, great onsen
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room is great! Quite spacious, clean, and looks new! The facilities and amenities are good
Cons: The walk to the ryokan is uphill, but manageable
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds are the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in with the most comfortable down comforters. The Japanese and western breakfast were just exceptional, the Westin breakfast really surprised us! Just make sure you know that in most of these ski is in Japan toilets showers and even thinks sometimes do not come in your room. Make sure you’re aware of this. And the proximity to the public onsen was delightful where we went every night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where do I start. We had such a lovely time here, the staff were so helpful and friendly, really made such an effect to make our stay comfortable and easy. The breakfasts were fantastic as well as the facilities with a stunning Onsen. Our room was also so lovely, we loved that we were able to make tea and coffee when ever we wanted to . It's super close to the slopes and a little walk into town which was pretty easy (good to work off your dinner). Definately stay here on your trip to Nozawa Onsen!
Cons: Nothing we didn't like
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the size of the room, the bedding was fantastic and the place was exceptionally clean (even taking into account Japan's high standards). The shower was excellent.
Cons: There was no hot water in the hand basins and cold in the shared toilets (though the seats were warm!!)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the time we arrived, the hosts went out of their way to help with anything they could. Our daughter wasn't feeling well enough to go out to dinner, so they made her some noodles and took them to her room. After a ski injury they brought him bandages and offered to drive him to the hospital. When we left, they offered to drive us to the bus, but it was an easy walk with our wheely suitcases. Considering it was booked out, it was so peaceful and quiet. Everything was super clean. The booking system for the private shower & private bath is great - half hour slots but never too busy. The location was excellent - 2 mins walk to the Yu Road travelator to the bottom of the gondola.
Cons: We loved everything about the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pros: Excellent value, excellent hotel, excellent service. Traditional tatami, room is a basic with a TV, a heater, a kettle and thats about it to be honest! But go in expecting this, and everything is excellent. Staff (family owned) was excellent and catered to our every question and request (where to go for dinner, where to go for onsens etc.). Location is 10 minutes away from the slopes (5 minute walk, 5 minutes on the moving carpet). Restaurants and shops close by (by far enough from the noise). Mattresses and blankets were very comfortable, warm enough to sleep through the night. The showers were very hot, sinks and bathrooms close by (shared) and the entire property was very clean. I have no complaints.
Cons: Cons: No place for you to shower in the morning - bath / shower only opened from 15:00 to 22:00. There are public onsens near by for you to do so, but just something to bear in mind.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Family owned traditional Japanese ryokan hotel. Very close to the moving walkway and convenient to the resort. Not fancy but very nice and well maintained with very helpful staff. Would definitely stay here again. Our group was 2 families, 4 adults and 3 kids age 6-8.

8.8 Excellent (79 reviews)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Tannenhof is full of charm and history. Being able stay right on the ski resort is a huge benefit. The experience starts with getting picked up in their amazingly cool van, to the refreshing breakfasts. My favourite is the pictures of old skiers and the dogs.
Cons: I wouldn’t change anything about our stay.

Pros: Everything!!!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our stay at Pension Tannanhof! We stayed in the traditional Japanese rooms and were very comfortable. The breakfasts were a surprise and delight every day. We loved staying on the mountain and also enjoyed the hike up after dinner in the village.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nice staff, great facilities. It even had a beer vending machine which was nice.
Cons: S'all good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We so enjoyed our stay at Pension Tannenhof -from the pick up at the bus terminal in the very cool snow mobile to the wonderful team running the place we knew we’d made the right choice. The whole place created a friendly atmosphere and you are literally on the slopes. There’s a path through the forest down to the main bit of Nozawa and we enjoyed walking each night. Great to have if you want a bigger choice of places to eat etc but otherwise there are places up there to eat too (all of them up the mt or in the town close for a bit in the afternoon probably whilst everyone is Onsen-ing and open again around 6/6.30pm). Ski storage /dry room on site, washing machine and ski hire places just out the door or more a bit further on by the other lift. Breakfast was also fabulous. Japanese western mix.
Cons: There’s no en-suite which didn’t bother us at all but might some people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else! Second time staying here and still as good, breakfast was amazing, staff and owner all amazing and friendly
Cons: Walking back from the izakaya at night up the hill was a challenge. But trade off accom was right next to hikage gondola
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean room, friendly staff, great location, delicious breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location right on the ski field

Pros: The man on the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The onsen is lovely (although restrictive opening hours are not great for morning bathers) and the rooms are are great traditional Japanese experience.
Cons: In a room with shared bathroom, the onsen/shower was closed in the mornings
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner is awesome. Ask him to prepare mushroom hotpot ... Super delicious.
Cons: It would be nice to have a more comfortable lounge area
7.9 Good
Pros: The place was very handy for the shuttle bus to the slopes. The staff member was helpful with all my queries
Cons: The beds had sides on them. Which is guess is fine for bunk beds but just for a single bed it felt odd. A bit like climbing into a cot - at least I didn’t fall out! The onsen isn’t open in the morning, which is a bit rubbish if you’re after a shower to start the day.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely onsen inside the hotel and there is a public one right across the road, we really think everyone should try the experience! Good breakfast at an extra cost
Cons: It’s an old traditional building so the walls are thin and it can get noisy when busy
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very helpful. Allowed us to check in early.
Cons: Room quite small for two people.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The host is lovely and the breakfast is big. The view from the dining area is amazing. The town is small so it’s about 10mins walk to the bars and restaurants and only 5mins walk to one of the ski areas at the base of Skyline so you can connect to the rest of the mountain easily. The bedrooms have heaters and the room temperature was perfect, slept very well each night.
Cons: Everything was great. They could perhaps improve the photos on the website because it ended up being nicer than what I expected from the photos.

Cons: The futon was very uncomfortable. We had stayed in two other ryokan during our month in Japan and had no issues, but here we had great difficulty getting comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and breakfast. Short walk to the ski resort escalator. Lots of restaurants and bars near by. Loved the on-site onsen, it has different temperature baths inside and outside and a sauna.
Cons: Stayed here with a couple buddies to hit the slopes. There was a feminine product in our toilet that was very gross. Made us feel like the bathroom was never cleaned for us. The staff kind of acted like it was our fault and just showed us how to flush the toilet. No real apology from them.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked the owner Yuki Mori san and all the staff, who were very informative and gracious. In particular, I was very impressed with a gentleman staff, Shinichi mori san, who was very kindly and helpful during our stay. ryokan sakaya is wonderfully located and has a beautiful garden in the lobby. the owner is extremely speedy and responsive in answering email, and such a pleasure with perfect English. makes communication prior to arrival , a breeze.

Pros: Great location(very close to the centre of Nozawa), superb breakfast(choice of Japanese or Western). Very helpful owner/staff. Let me check in early since room was ready(morning of the day I arrived), when I forgot my jacket when leaving they quickly sent it to me by Taqbin. Beds are very comfortable as well. Good dry room with a separate tuning room available so you can wax or tune your own skis. There is a public onsen basically across the street and also onsen inside the hotel.

Big board/ski storage room with separate drying room for your gear. Discount lift tickets at reception. Also they have a cold/hot water dispenser which was great, never had to buy water. Recommend this place if you plan on visiting Nozawaonsen.
