We reserved the Roses Room for a family gathering on Saturday night and were quite pleased with it. Our servers were truly outstanding and helpful from the beginning, making us feel comfortable and providing all we needed. The gathering was a great success.
The breakfast was only average. For such an outstanding property, I expected superior food but found it fell short. One day the grits were quite different from what I expected; they seemed to have been fried, rather than creamy, which I prefer, but were also quite dry and coarse. Another day, I had oatmeal, which was also very much too thick and sticky. Very small portions of brown sugar and raisins were served with it and no milk. I had to ask for it. The pancakes on the third day were much better but not outstanding. Coffee and juice were always fine, and Marie's service was excellent.
It was not as good as on previous stays both in friendliness of service not ion quality of cooking. Coffee had been sitting on warmer, not freshly brewed. Eggs were over cooked and tasteless.
The sheets on the bed. The spaciousness of room and bath.
Beautiful historic building
Will suggest to clarify when the kitchen close for the Library and Breakfast closing at 9 am is too early.
Staff was amazing, and friendly. They actually give you a tour apon your arrival. The pictures don't do this place justice it is peaceful, beautiful and filled with southern charm. There are allot of little touches and extras that really make this a great deal for what you spend. And as allot of reviews I have read the breakfast is good and worth getting up for. I'm a big boy so I could have ate more but the portions are fair and for the average person filling. If I find myself in jackson ms again i will stay here no question.
There's really nothing bad to say.
After several long days of travel, it was nice to have a luxurious bath and rest in the amazingly comfortable bed. We arrived after check-in, but I had called ahead and they had everything prepared. I had also mentioned that we were celebrating an anniversary, so they had a small bottle of champagne and box of chocolates for us. Such a sweet gesture.
I ordered the Southern breakfast. I discovered that I don't like grits; I suppose I am not a Southerner nor one at heart.
