9.2 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the adorable decorations everywhere. Appreciated the included breakfast. Liked the view from our traditional Japanese style room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If there’s a perfect place to stay this is it. Wonderful traditional rooms, the most friendly and helpful staff that I ever met in the most beautiful surroundings. If I can give more than ten that would be for this place
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff went out of their way to help us check in and provide information for staying on the island. The facility was clean and the kitchen was nice to cook in. Highly recommend this hostel. Excellent
Cons: Don't have much to say about negatives. A little bit of a walk from the ferry station... but not bad.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The boss was awesome!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great accomodation! I shared my room with two pleasant german guys. The room itself was nice and clean. The house is really beautiful, the garden adds to the atmosphere. All facilities and kitchen utencils are clearly markes, so no bothering searching everything. Unfortunately I had some bad oysters that night. The host (and a few French guests) were very helpful trying to get me through. I overslept the next morning on checkout but he didn’t mind given I was ill, he even offerde me to being me to the hospital. All in all, great experience and a great stay! (Apart from the oysters)
7.9 Good
Pros: The place is a Japanese guesthouse - there is both a dorm and private rooms but with shared bathroom and showers. There are common areas (e.g. a living room with origami, books, tv, computer, stamps, calligraphy, and a kitchen). Everything was clean, much more than in European guesthouses. Our room had a small table with two "Japanese chairs", a small sink, a small "terrace" with table and chairs. You need to make the futons by yourself (as in many other Japanese places). The owner spoke a good English and he was so kind giving us many advices as regards places to visit and where to eat (he suggested a great okonomiyaki restaurant, which was indeed much better than the other we tried the following day!) The place was very quiet. We stayed with two small kids who were happy to sleep on futons. Of course, with small kids it would have been more comfortable to stay in a conventional hotel with a private bathroom, but both bathroom and showers were just in front of our room and we had to wait only once to get in the shower, so everything went smooth! We used the kitchen only to get some milk and tea for breakfast, but you could also have cereals and some other stuff. There is also "emergency food" in case you are late in the evening (most restaurants on the island close at 9pm). Location is good. Not close to the ferry (15' on foot, which could be tiring in the hot summer with small kids) but so close to Itsukushima Shrine! There is also a small garden with raccoons and a nice view of the bay from the terrace of our room.
Cons: Towels were too small!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hospitality. Everything is so well organized, you will be given all brochures you need to organise your time on island, you will be shown everything you need to organise your time in the hostel and fill yourself comfortable. The place looks like museum and it is amazingly cosy, you feel yourself like in real japanese house. Even if it looks like an old stile place, it has everything you may need - modern showers, kitchen with enything you may need for cooking, common place with computer and even ekectronic piano, enough sockets near your sleeping place (and also a usb-charge). It is written that check in is till 21.00 but I saw people who checked at 22.40, so as I understood it is not a problem. You can leave your luggage after check-out. Location is convenience, it is in the the very center of the city. And they have a cat) They should take additional fee for cat therapy (it is a joke).
Cons: My boyfriend had problems in shower - mixer didn't work, so he had a cold shower.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Japanese bath was amazing and so was the host!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had such a great stay here! I was only here for one night but the hostess, Saho, gave me a little intro to Miyajima, including restaurants and things to do, and also a free calligraphy lesson. They were incredibly kind and accommodating. The guesthouse itself was beyond picturesque and set up for travellers, with guidebooks, origami and calligraphy supplies, instruments, an onsen and a full kitchen. Everything was clean. The onsen was nice, too. If I come back to Miyajima, I would definitely stay here again.
Cons: I booked a Japanese style room but when I got there, I was told they had to switch me to a dorm style. Not a big deal (same price) and they were really apologetic about it, so I didn't mind!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is so kind and helpful! And the guest house is just great! It is such a peaceful place and the common areas are great. I would have loved to stay there for a week at least!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts are extremely kind. There is no elevator so they offered to carry our heavy luggages upstairs. It is a ryokan style accommodation, very beautiful and decorated with lovely bunnies, spacious for 3 people and clean, with yukatas. The hotel is easy to find and very convenient because it is in front of the ferry arrival and only 12 minutes by foot to the Great Torii. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to Miyajima NB: it's cash payment only :)
Cons: Everything was great

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! From the location, to the staff to the authenticity of the place
7.5 Good
Pros: The peace and quiet of the place. Staff is very attentive and breakfast is really good.
Cons: It feels more like a hotel rather than a ryokan. Dinner was ok. When we visited the main shrine was under renovation and this has nothing to do with the hotel but it’s worth mentioning in case you are planning to go soon since that’s the main attraction.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is great; the property is historic, beautiful, well maintained; and the staff is extremely helpful. Iwaso is an excellent way to have a Ryokan experience or even just a very nice place to stay on Miyajima Island. We will come back in the future.

Pros: The manager of the B&B is really kind, she cared about every detail to help us make the visit to Miyajima easy and profitable. Even for the following days. Very close to the main visiting points.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole stay was superb. The place itself is conveniently located pretty much in the main road close to all amenities and shops. Inside, good sized bedrooms and (uncanny!) comfortable mattresses - specially when you've been out and about for the whole day... The host was exceptionally helpful and kind. I would definitely recommend (if not going back whenever possible!).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place. The hostess was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. She spoke excellent English and was happy to help. Highly recommend :-)
5.4 Okay
Pros: The shared bathroom was quite ok and the lady who welcomed us was really friendly.
Cons: This place was really basic, quite old & stuffy. For a Bed&Breakfast we expected a LOT more, if only the ability to have breakfast (this was not possible in our case, and if it is you pay extra). Not worth the money in our opinion.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Was lucky to get downstairs room so easy access to bathroom. The hostess is charming & was very helpful.
Cons: Nothing
Hotel Kikunoya - Hatsukaichi - Building
7
8.8 Excellent (1,295 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Kikunoya in Hatsukaichi, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Itsukushima Shrine and 7 minutes from Miyajima Ferry Terminal. Limited parking is available onsite.
6.7 Good
Pros: Despite the overall mediocre experience in the accommodation it was worth spending a night on Miyajima and experiencing the island when the day visitors are gone. The accommodation is a short walk from the temple and on a quiet street (though that didn't help given the annoying hallway music issue mentioned below). Breakfast was plentiful and good and the indoor onsen was a good way to start into the day.
Cons: What really annoyed us and made the stay quite uncomfortable was that very annoying music played with chimes was played on speakers throughout the hotel hallways from 6AM to 11PM and was very audible in our room (we were on the second floor). Additionally, the water in the outdoor baths of the onsens was cold in the morning which was quite a letdown. And when coming back from dinner the receptionist didn't manage to find our keys for a full 5 minutes and seemed quite helpless in the situation (it didn't help that he didn't speak any English). Given these issues the value for money really wasn't great (even when considering that accommodation on Miyajima is expensive to begin with and we were there on a weekend).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: was really nice room, we even got a phone with internet to use outside of the hotel in the city
Cons: Wi-Fi was really bad
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It's an expensive hotel for our budget, but it was worth paying. The staff were very helpful, they have a free transfer service from and to the ferry, the onsen was a great experience and the breakfast was quite good.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly. They even washed our clothes for free. The lady at the breakfast was very nice and served bfast to my children who overslept and missed their bfast. The pick-up from the Ferry station to the hotel was very convenient specially on the day we arrived which was raining hard. I like the onzen. Overal the stay was pleasant. A bit pricy though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a quaint boutique style hotel. The Onsen was great. Breakfast option was limited but adequate. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The Japanese Experience was fantastic. Location was good and within walking distance to everything. Luggage collection and shuttle was efficient with friendly staff.
Cons: The bed is small. There are no bathing facilities other than the Onsen. The room doesn't have a western bathroom and one is not available. Dinner options were not valid without a previously booked reservation.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff
Cons: Nothing

Pros: The location is superb. Stone throw away from hotel to jetty (going to Miyajima Island).
Cons: 1 bath room in each level. 3 total for entire place. Spent too much time waiting for the turn just to take shower unless u wake up very early, or shower very late at night. Little privacy even though we booked for a family room.

Pros: Beautiful location, gorgeous room, lovely amenities and professional and friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were picked up from the ferry, our bags delivered to the room and we got an on the house green tea with poached apple whilst waiting the 5 minutes for our bags to be transferred. The reception staff all welcomed us as we arrived through the door, felt like real VIPs...only had a standard double! Speaking of which was excellent! Western style beds with large tatami area, everything clean as a whistle an an amazing view over the bay area.
Cons: Nothing, every aspect of our stay was spot on.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel in a good location. Check out should be postpone at 11 instead of 10 am.
Cons: I liked the onsen, the room and the staff of the hotel
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and great facilities, particularly the onset and traditional Japanese loungewear!
Cons: Nothing really, it was more on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Well located, staff were all incredibly helpful. Free shuttle bus to the ferry terminal. Well decorated, very clean.
Cons: The front lobby was a little confusing and requires stairs. It’s so popular that I only had the option of a small western bedroom (I did book very last minute though!!), wish I could have tried a Japanese style room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable, clean and roomy. Great location also.
Cons: Nothing, happy with all aspects.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service throughout my stay, facilities were excellent and the location couldn’t be more perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a wonderful place to stay. This was our favorite hotel during our time in Japan. Superb staff, beautiful and spacious rooms, excellent attention to detail, and convenient location to the Itsukushima Shrine. The hotel reached out prior to our stay to make sure food allergies were accommodated at the dinner. This was greatly appreciated, and dinner was amazing with so many delicious treats from the sea. We booked the room with the open-air bath and garden view; it was incredible. Everyone wanted to take a turn in this private bath and all enjoyed it. For those nervous to try a public onsen, this was a nice compromise. It's an easy walk to the Itsukushima Shrine from the hotel, and it was nice to be able to access the shrine when it was less busy. We wish we could have stayed longer at Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto and highly recommend it.
Cons: English was tough for some staff members, but it wasn't a problem and everyone was friendly. Be prepared to translate if you have atypical requests.

Amenities Don't miss out on recreational opportunities including hot springs and a steam room. Dining At Jukeiso, enjoy a satisfying meal at the restaurant. Business, Other Amenities Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This was our most expensive night in Japan but was worth it for the fantastic experience, I am so glad I booked it. Although the property is slightly dated this only added to it's charm and it was spotlessly clean. The staff were lovely and genuinely seemed to take great pleasure in making you feel special. It is up quite a steep hill and I wish I had known earlier that I could have got the tourist information at the ferry terminal to phone them to pick up our bags. Probably my fault for not reading the information!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great experience at the Jukeiso: the gastronomic dinner, the amazing staff and the Onsen. Everything was perfect, thank you guys for the beautiful moment we spent at your place
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was lovely and we had views out onto the Torii gate. There was a festival taking place down at the shirne and we were able to sit in the room and listen to the music (and the rain) from our room. The evening set meal was really nice and sitting there in our yukata it felt like a very authentic Japanese experience. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and offered us lifts to and from the ferry port (we foolishly chose to walk, don't be foolish like us).
Cons: The hotel is a bit tired and the communal areas could do with some renovation, but this didn't really impact the stay in any meaningful way. The private onsen was a bit disappointing as it wasn't particularly hot, and although you can add more hot water in the 30 mins you have you wouldn't make any meaningful difference to the overall temp. Didn't try the communal one so cannot say how it compares.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great view from room. Extremely clean. Dinner and breakfast very enjoyable. Staff extremely helpful.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Dinner was fantastic, however it was pretty tame by keiseki standards The Onsen was great.
Cons: Opted for Western breakfast since I don't usually enjoy grilled fish for breakfast and this was our third Ryokan in a week. I have to say jukeiso would be better off not offering a Western breakfast at all.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view from the hotel, the staff, the meals and the private onsen!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food and amenities were fantastic. The service was great and everyone was very kind to us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was excellent. Having both a private and public onsen was wonderful after a long day. The view was beautiful!
Cons: Nothing!

7.5 Good
Pros: Very convenient location for miyajima ferry. Staff were very kind and helpful. Restaurant food for included breakfast was good and the same restaurant for dinner was fantastic for authentic Hiroshima style food. View from the room was amazing. Communal areas had great atmosphere, books and things to do along with useful luggage scales and restaurant recommendations.
Cons: We were in the “new building” and it is very run down by Japan’s standards. Carpet was old, stretched and stained and we never felt comfortable walking on it without shoes or the provided slippers. Wallpaper was cracked, chipped and peeling. Furniture was very abused looking, chips and cracks in all the wood veneer. Beds were not hard in comparison to other Japanese hotels however it felt like this was from use. Black mould all over the bathroom, ventilation in bathroom was not good. Shower was average, felt like a constant battle to get the shower head to stay in place.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The quality of the breakfast was very poor and major lack of fresh fruit. Just very 1980’s Hotel
Cons: The dated look of the restaurant and bed room. The smell in the room was damp
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect, easy to get to Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. Loved that there were laundry facilities, with soap provided.
Cons: It was a little musty from the days when smoking was allowed. The air cleaner didn’t help much. Carpeting and furniture need to be replaced / updated.

Cons: Furniture and carpet in rooms were a bit tired despite us being in the “new” build

6.7 Good
Pros: Location + accessibility to Miyajima island
Cons: Wasn’t very clean, could do with an interior uplift
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, location, room was a nice size. View was good too.
Cons: Staff were less Japanese due to amount of foreigners travelling through, I guess. Breakfast was good. Evening meal....awful. Ate there once, never again. That apart, the hotel is fine and location second to none.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location... u could literally see the ferry coming and leaving for Miyajima island. Would have been perfect if could have seen a good sunrise. Hotel staff is very accommodating.
Cons: Hotel is kinda old. For the price paid, it is kinda expensive but they do provide free breakfast (standard Japanese western food). It would have been ok if the hotel has onsen facility to make up for the high price... but the nearest onsen is almost 30min ride away. Not necessary to stay here if the aim is just to see Miyajima at different times of the day. Just visit Miyajima from Hiroshima and prepare to spend the whole day at Miyajima (but stay at Hiroshima).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect breakfast! Very good location: close to the station, and close to the ferry port.

Pros: A beautiful traditional Japanese style hotel. Our room was spacious and very clean. The traditional Japanese beds were comfortable. We all slept very well. The onsen was well appointed and very relaxing. Our room was quite and had a lovely view back to Hiroshima. The staff were lovely and a VERY SPECIAL THANKYOU to the staff member who came running after us with my wallet which I had left in the hotel foyer when we checked out. Miyajima Island is beautiful and very clean. The shopping and food were excellent and the deer roaming the island were very friendly. One of the highlights of our trip.

Pros: Misty Mountain Views from the bedroom Windows.
Cons: Very low level of English, so communication was a struggle. Location was a 5-7mins Taxi ride costing about 1200 to 1500 yen, about USD12 to USD15. Absolutely impossible to walk to hotel , as Hotel was really deep into the countryside (inaka ). Feels quite scary and eerie at night.

Pros: Location
Cons: Air-condition should worked in the whole property!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality was amazing, and the breakfast buffet was worth every yen!!
Cons: I loved every single thing about the hotel!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely Japanese hotel literally across the road from the ferry, so very easy access. Loved the yukatas which you can wear to dinner or to lounge about playing cards or reading in the spacious lobby lounge. Plentiful tasty food at the dinner buffet as well as a couple of sakes to taste, unless you prefer to pour yourself a beer. Staff were lovely and friendly. Easy walk to Torii gate and temple and you’ll meet some very tame deer along the way. You should also check out the ropeway (cable car) for the view of the bay and Hiroshima.
Cons: It was all good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious with a useful seating area that did not take up the entire room. This hotel is very convenient for the ferry port.
Cons: Breakfast was a little bland.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location. The buffet dinner was very good and the room was comfortable, exceptionally clean and spacious. Don’t know why it’s rated as a 3 star as it seems like a good 4 star hotel.
Cons: Rather expensive all things considered.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Well located next to the ferry. Rooms a nice size. Chex in was very efficient. We were given rooms next to each other.
Cons: A bit pricey
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was just a few steps from the ferry landing and was convenient. The staff was friendly. The dinner and breakfast buffet were awesome! This was the first time I've experienced a self-serve drink bar that was included in the buffet. The onsen on the 5th floor had a wonderful view of the waterfront and mainland.
Cons: No issues.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We travel. Every now and again we splurge our shekels on what looks like a nice culturally appropriate hotel. This hotel did not disappoint. It is a delightful place, from the Japanese buffet breakfasts (Western too,if you are so inclined), to the rooms with traditional bedding, to the onsen with a view and the yukata to wear when you in the hotel. Directly opposite the ferry terminal and easy walking distance to all the main things you come to see and do on Miyajima. Reception staff were always willing to assist and forgiving of our poor Japanese language skills. We opted to stay on the island and travel into Hiroshima rather than the other way around and were very glad we did.
Cons: Nothing to dislike here.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location! New property. Nice lounge areas with free juice and tea/coffee that guests can enjoy. Clean.
Cons: Music in corridors a bit loud. Bed could have been more comfortable.

Cons: Absolutely nothing. Service was amazing 10/10! More if possible!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great onsen. Liked the complimentary coffee/teas in the lounge. Lovely room and bathroom, all immaculate. Overall value for money.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing, the dinner exceptional and the room with the private baths just perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Everything was perfect! The room was quiet, breakfast was the best one I had in Japan and the onsen with view is amazing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing from beginning to end! Stunning hotel on Miyajima that mixes traditional Japanese spaces with modern amenities. The staff was wonderful and helpful in every way. The room was stunningly beautiful especially at sunset with an ocean view and huge by any standard. The bed was super comfortable and I slept wonderfully. The rooftop onsen was clean and super relaxing especially the outdoor onsen at sunset. The Japanese dinner and breakfast were great. The staff went above and beyond explaining ever element of the meals and ensuring guests' absolute comfort. I cannot say enough good things about this property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had two wonderful days at Kurayado Iroha. The hotel is wonderful, the service is excellent and the staff is professional, careful and genuinely nice. If you decide to spend the night in Miyajima (which I strongly recommend to live the magic of the island), this hotel is highly recommended. Last but not least, the kaiseki dinner we had in their restaurant was a wonderful experience on its own.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: On entering there is a fine lobby with beautiful parquet floors. The staff are warm and friendly and were easy to chat to. Our rooms were spacious and very lush. The futon beds were really well padded and fitted with glorious, crisp hotel sheets. The upstairs outdoor bath is a true highlight here, so too is the wash area. The showers had amazing water pressure as well. The location is well situated, right onto the street and so close to the Torii gates. Both breakfast and dinners were exquisite, beautifully presented and well explained by the attentive staff. Dinner is an extra charge.
Cons: Unbeknownst to us the breakfast was an additional charge, however it want as much as the dinner. For the money we paid for this, it would have been lovely to have a room facing the water.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff, location, kaiseki, size of room and bathroom (vs. Japan standards). Sea-side view is breath-taking (especially at sunset) so if you have the choice, I recommend!
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pure Ripken Japanese experience
Cons: All was good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner provided was a cultural experience and adventure by itself—I would have stayed just for the dinner. Staff were also incredibly accommodating upon seeing a soaked traveler stumbling in (I arrived during thunderstorms). I couldn’t be more grateful for the hospitality of the staff at Kurayado Iroha.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: A really nice location, easily accessible and with friendly staff. We had Japanese style rooms with futon beds and sea-view orientation which was really nice. We also had a good breakfast in the hotel lobby at a decent price. Overall very satisfied.
Cons: Nothing to mention here, it was all good. It is a different style than big-city steel and concrete hotels, so it's meaningless comparing them. But it fits well into the Miyajima landscape and definitely doesn't disappoint.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an absolutely beautiful tatami room with a balcony overlooking the sea with the ferry port within sight. The facility is spotless. The staff was very kind and helpful. It was a beautiful and peaceful stay.
Cons: The room is over the front porch where people smoked, so we could smell smoke from our room on the 4th floor.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great Location
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location and outlook fantastic; beautiful view and close to Ferry terminal
Cons: Futons and pillows very hard. Bathroom tiny and extremely dated. At almost $500 AUD a night - very poor value for money.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked that in our traditional Japanese room, the futon beds were already rolled out so that we could rest a little before going out again. The room was spacious, with beds, a Japanese low table with cushion 'chairs', and two real chairs at the window overlooking the water. The location is great, close to the ferry terminal. The staff was very helpful, and breakfast (ordered the night before) inexpensive.
Cons: Laundry was in high demand.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: So comfortable wonderful staff and practically adjacent to ferry
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff.Property on the main promenade with deers roaming. Easy walk from station and to ropeway
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is just perfect! Awesome sea views (not to the tori but still awesome!)
Cons: Its quite expensive considering how simple is the building and bathroom! Nice main/bed room dough
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great value. I would highly recommend.
Cons: Softer pillows. More tea and coffee options than 2 green tea sachets.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The host and the personnel are very nice and friendly. Great hosts. The main room has beautiful tatami floor. The location of this ryokan is excellent. It’s right on Miyajima island. At night and in the morning it’s nice and quiet without all the tourists. Already stayed at this ryokan twice. And would come back again!
Cons: Not all rooms have a private bathroom. There’s a shared bathing area. Be careful not to bump your head on low doors.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location is well located in front of the sea. They offer a tipycal beds in Japan, nice experience. The room was clean and fairly wide but the restroom was too small and old. Quite place and respectfulness.
Cons: Knowing, this magical island, they should improve the rooms. The Hall is ok but as a whole it’s too expensieve for services that they offer.
