The excellent service of the staff, especially Mr Minh, Mr Thien and Mr Hong. My request to a cleaned room with minimum dust was prepared prior to my arrival. Breakfast spread was good.
The mattress is quite hard for Asian with lower body weight and mass.
Water facilities in the toilets where weird
The staff (in particular all the male ones) were friendly and always had a smile on their faces. The female front desk staff always had their heads down and never said hello/goodbye. They allowed us to check in slightly earlier which was a huge bonus.
Unfortunately there are quite a few things we were not happy with. Firstly the location is not as close to Old Quarter as I expected. We migrated to The Ann for some pool action. We had stayed in a gorgeous boutique hotel in the Old Quarter for 4 days and moved to a new location for a change of scene. The area The Ann is located in is quite urban, upmarket shopping and more of a business district, so I would not chose it again. You have to get a Grab or taxi back to any sign of action, which doesn't take that long - but inconvenient. The air conditioning in our rooms was set at 25 degrees, so you in fact could not make it cooler - we had to ask Reception to get a technician to adjust it for our stay - however they turned it back to 25 degrees before our check-out time. The sun beds around the pool need upgrading, they are cracked and uncomfortable. The bed in our master room was SO uncomfortable. It was so hard (and I like hard beds) that it resembled sleeping on a concrete slab!!! Had the breakfast one morning, unmemorable. We were also called by Reception at 12.00pm right on the dot, asking when we were leaving - a bit tacky. It's a nice clean hotel with good sized rooms, and the male staff lovely, but I would not stay again, it's overpriced for what it is. We prefer the bustle of the Old Quarter.
Everything appeared to be a money grab
I liked that it was located in a nice neighbourhood. If you face the road, early in the morning you can hear Hanoi people waking up and going about their business. I liked the duck stall at night just a few doors down to the left. I liked the pho stall in the same location, in the morning. Just across the street was a convenience stall. A few doors to the right there were a few cafes where you could sit down, order a iced coffee, and watch the world go by. I loved the luxury of the room. There was a sofa by the window where you could spend a beautiful afternoon just reading or relaxing. There was a bathtub if you wanted a good soak. And the staff who took the time to talk to you. It felt very homely.
Because it was located about 5 minutes away from the old quarter, you had to take taxis to and from the old quarter. This meant spending money and negotiating with drivers for transport. However it is quieter and has a less crowded and touristy feel.
