Nice yukatas. Public bath was nice (only for people without tattoos). There is a free shuttle service from Gora station, which is very nice as the way to the hotel was very steep.
It was not mentioned that it was forbidden for people with tattoos to access the public bath. No solution was proposed by the hotel (no shower at all for people with tattoos) or indication of which onsen would allow people with tattoos. Otherwise, futons were a little thin and the room is quite small.
The staff: warm, very friendly. The onsen on the balcony: awesome and breathtaking view. The private time in onsen: incredible relaxing. The food: traditional Japanese, very high quality.
It was nice bathing outside
Ok well I’m just gonna start off saying that the for the amount of money this hotel costs, you would expect a lot more. The worst part about it was the hospitality, we had to jump through hoops to get the provided shuttle to take us back to Gora, I don’t understand why it would be only a one way shuttle since you have to go back to pick people up anyway. Also the photos do not match the room. They put a collage of all the rooms that are “similar” together which was extremely deceiving. I thought I was getting the room with the giant open air bath which ended up being the size of a sink. When I asked the front desk lady she said the rooms are “luck of the draw”..... That just doesn’t seem like a fair business model. You want to SEE the room you’re booking. In the end the rooms are ok, it was fun having a traditional Japanese feel but the photos make them seem WAY bigger. The price tag did not match the expectations.
The room was spacious and we loved the outdoor bath. The public bath was disappointing. We do wish that we were able to eat in our room because we were traveling with a 1yr old. The bath tub could have been cleaner.
Very friendly staff, nice onsen and delicious breakfast. Overall a good place to stay in Hakone.
Long and steep walk from Gora station, use the shuttle if possible. Everything around closes at 20h.
