Overview Reviews
Luxury accommodations in the Spirit of the Old West. Located in downtown Durango, walking distance to shops, restaurants, activities and the Durango-Silverton Railroad.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location. Within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
Cons: Very noisy. Our room was under the stairs. Other guests were moving around all night. Little to no sleep.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was creatively prepared and very hearty, fresh, delicious. Shower was roomy and nice. Bed very comfy. I enjoyed the subtly sophisticated décor. The hotel is recently redecorated, fresh, hip, very friendly, intimate. Would be a great place to have a group of friends stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and friendly staff. Also, we chose this hotel because they have a facility that allowed us to charge our electric car overnight.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Received an upgraded room with kitchenette and sitting area. Delicious breakfast, wonderful afternoon cookies, pleasant staff. Great location for walking around Main Street in Durango.
Cons: Old building and the heating was reflective of that, but we did stay warm enough. Old building is part of the charm. Parking lot view from window.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We're repeat visitors and just enjoy everything about the hotel. The breakfast in the morning is fantastic and the staff who serve it is super friendly! The cruiser bikes that are available to guests are very convenient to zip around town. All of the stores, restaurants, bars, etc. are very close so no need for a car, which is huge. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spotless. You are definitely made to feel welcome there. We look forward to our next visit!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Tremendous downtown location
Cons: Toilet clogged!
5.0 Okay
Pros: how clean everything was, the comfort of the bed and how quiet is was. No phones in the room, without a cell phone and no staff on premises a situation could cause a death. We did have a cell but our parents would not have had one.
Cons: The price of the room was not bad considering we were to get a free breakfast. Your ad showed scrambled eggs which my diabetic husband can eat but they were only serving pancakes, thus we purchased food elsewhere.
7.0 Good
Pros: The ambience was great. The breakfast was delicious. The toiletry was very nice.
Cons: Rooms were very loud. Did not have a good night's sleep at all. Our room was right next to the entrance and we heard everyone coming and going all hours of the day and night and then if anyone moved in the room above us I thought they were in our room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fresh cooked breakfast, scones, cookies in the afternoon
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a friendly staff! Loved the breakfasts. Was pleasantly surprised that our room was equipped with a comfy dog bed and water and food dish, too. Location downtown is perfect for the holidays.
Cons: Tiny annoyance-bathroom door needs some Wd40 for a very loud squeak.

Cons: A dog barked a lot in a room and this did not seem to addressed by the hotel staff. It seems the dog owners left the dog in the room unattended. The room had a refrig and microwave. I would have liked the refrigerator better if it also had a freezer.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location close to trails. Had just about everything you needed in the kitchen, although the freezer inside the fridge is very small and the fridge was a bit temperamental (it froze eggs on the third day and we didn't change the temperature). Nice to have access to the fitness room for stretching as the room is cozy. Hot tub and pool available too. Fast WiFi. We would stay again.
Cons: It was a little stuffy in the room - a fan would have been helpful to get some more air in via the balcony door. We were on the highway side so leaving the door open at night for airflow was noisy. The overhead fan was helpful but getting cool air in would have been even better!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The condo was perfect for our visit. We picked up our daughter at Ft. Lewis College, it was an easy 30+ minute drive to the condo, Opened the door and found everything we needed to spend some family time to ourselves. Easy drive to Silverton, and came back to just a very relaxing place. Clean, kitchen had everything, beautifully decorated, comfortable place.
Cons: Had we known how much was provided, we would have come with a bit more groceries.

Pros: The room was great with the loft area upstairs. We got the room so we could come with our 2 kids (we decided not to bring them) which would have been perfect! Price was awesome for the "2 bedroom" size. Free continental breakfast is always nice. Nothing special, but they have what you need.
Cons: Extended stay guests. Recently heard that the hotel also started renting monthly. This should stop, hopefully when the hotel is sold as it is for sale currently. Needs updating: carpet, fixtures, art, paint, etc. But still kept up pretty well.
6.2 Good
Pros: The location and outside scenery
Cons: The shower wouldn't drain, the "clean" sheets had someone's hair on them, the towels and the carpet had stains

Pros: The food service staff went above and beyond! Hotel employee in the kitchen baked our pizzas we made since there was not an oven in our room. She was very kind and helpful each day. She truly embraces the "customer service"
Cons:  she is the manager in housekeeping, was very rude to other staff in front of us. She made us feel very uncomfortable and I can not believe she has the position she does in a customer service industry with her attitude and demeanor!

5.4 Okay
Pros: Hotel is in a good location. There are some great restaurants and shops in the area.
Cons: There was no bellman available or bell cart available to help with our bags when we arrived. The furniture was dusty, wallpaper was starting to peal off the walls and ceiling. Thermostat was locked and we were not able to turn on the heater in the room. There was black mold in the grout on the floor. Ate in the restaurant/bar on property, food lacked flavor and was very greasy and not well prepared. On check out the elevator was not working so we had to haul our bags down three flights of stairs. My mom has had two knee surgeries and had some discomfort after the ordeal. Would not recommend this hotel.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location is nice and very romantic. Rooms are clean and quite large. I was surprised as many period hotels are cramped. Right downtown in the old town.
Cons: The air handler in the room did not work so there was no way to control the temperature. I notified the staff three times with no action. The hotel is located across from the train station that uses as period, COAL fired locomotive. VERY VERY bad air pollution. I asked for directions form the staff and got bad directions.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the retro touches and the modern amenities
6.0 Good
Pros: The bed was very comfortable along with the pillows and very clean.
Cons: I didn't like that my room didn't have any windows!
7.9 Good
Pros: - Excellent location - clean - Nice evening corner overlooking the Main Street with free tea and coffee - Friendly staff
Cons: - As it’s old and historical and falls in downtown, then you have all the noises that comes with it, that’s if you were planning on good night sleep! - Windows are also historical so they’re small and don’t prevent the loud noises of now a day vehicles
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to dining and shopping. The hotel is old but beautiful.
1.0 Poor
Cons: Room was extremely loud and we couldn’t sleep, Front desk would not help us, room was not cleaned well (dirty soap left in shower).
5.0 Okay
Pros: Description of room and location were not accurate, our room was suite but was not even attached to the actual general Palmer building.
Cons: 2 locations and we had to walk across a parking lot to get to breakfast. Kind of thought we should have been in just 1 building.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful and well maintained. The hotel looked brand new, but from the late 1800s.
Cons: The elevator was also from the late 1800s and was barely big enough for two and luggage.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, plush robes, water and coffee in room, coffee and cookies in lobby, many sitting areas in lobby(all with great views)
Cons: The first night they put delicious chocolates in the room; so good with coffee. Then they ran out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Central location. Historic nature of the hotel
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location & historical character
Cons: The breakfast bar was limited & understocked. A waffle maker would have been nice. The inner rooms get hot (even in winter) & guests can neither control temperature nor crack a window.

Cons: I liked everything!

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, events were nearby. Beautiful scenery.
Cons: A fridge would be nice to add to rooms.
7.0 Good
Pros: There was no breakfast. We were casting around for a place to have Christmas lunch/dinner. NOTHING but big hotel brunch next door which cost $45 whopping dollars, and didn't measure up. Not our hotel's fault, but if they had known there was a Napalese/asian restaruant open we would have ventured uptown to it instead of being held hostage at the other place. Love the 3-mile trail along the Animas we got to walk the two mornings we were there. Saw a bald eagle and many wonderful ducks on the river. Durango is beautiful
Cons: Our healter in room 122 was amazingly loud and inefficient. It needs repair. I will let the place know. Front desk was lovely.
