Los Amigos has a spacious, quiet garden, with a high wall and locked gate by a beautiful pool and NO raucous music! It is a pleasure to hear the birds chirping and the geckos calling. The kitchen is large, well-equipped, and well-maintained. Wifi is good, The hostess/owner is expert on local culture and events, a fount of useful info about Cozumel, and bi-lingual (at least). Drinking water is available at 2 pesos/litre - a great deal. Instant coffee is provided. But there is a drip coffee maker, microwave & toaster oven, and gas stoves w/kettle. Outside clothes lines are abundant for hanging stuff to dry. COZ has a great bike path around the island, 64km, maybe the best in the world!
The a/c comes on only at 10pm and shuts off at 6am. Mosquitoes are abundant. Amigos is 1.5 kilometres from the ferry. Beaches are at least 2 kilometres. NIce beaches on COZ are a hike or a taxi ride from town. No public transport goes around the island.
I do recommend to come to los amigos. The owner, Katy is great, the place is beautiful, everything you need is there. During my stay, the people there were really great too, it was like a small family, easy to talk with everyone, about everything... The disposition of the hostel helps a lot with that! Before arriving and once there, Katy gave me plenty of interesting information about the island and what was possible to do, prices, etc. She is really invested in her business.
I have nothing to complain, everything went perfectly.
Really helpful host, kathy gives you all the information about the island, nice garden with pool, clean, lockers, kitchen, nice vibe, outside the really touristy area and still everything you need in walking distance
Kathy and her staff are more than welcoming and the property with garden and pool is really spacious. It’s just fun to hang out in the place, you can easily spend several days here! The hostel is rather small, so it’s easy to get in touch with others. Stores and restaurants are still close by, but you can escape the crowds downtown. All great!
Internet’s a bit slow.
I chose this hostel because I saw the photo of a pool table. Table was lopsided beyond the beyond and the longest unbroken cues were a yard long.o
