Quick check-in and free wifi on 1st night
The room had a smell, broken bathroom light and toilet is clunky. At about 3am I heard some loud music and at first I thought it was the room next door or above, then I noticed it was someone outside my window playing his music. I talked to the help desk and they were not eager to do anything with it. I would not stay at this place again, there are other options available.

I showed up to this hotel in the middle of the night to the non-descript front door, to find myself unsure of how to enter in the first place. I picked up the house phone on the wall opposite the closed front desk window only to find the voice of an extremely unhelpful staff member who proceeded to tell me OVER THE PHONE that my reservation had been cancelled and that I'D RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT IT - which I HAD NOT. He made no apology and simply explained that the hotel had been overbooked and that I had been emailed about this and that there was nothing he could do. After some complaining and coaxing from me the best I got out of him was that I could try this one hotel down the street and then send him the cost difference in the room and they'd pay the difference. How a hotel can allow itself to overbook is completely beyond me in the first place. I had arrived late to be at a conference in the morning in 7 hours, only to find myself bedless for the night. I would only be in Illinois for less than 24 hours, and needed a place. This hotel let me down tremendously, and then I received no sympathy and very little accountability - and that only from one person who was on the premises and yet still did not show his face to me, and would reluctantly offer me an sub-par solution at my urging. Then when I called a couple of different corporate numbers about it, I received from one person an excuse about how she worked at the office and only handled a certain type of affairs (I don't remember which). She connected to a number for a person who wouldn't be available until after the weekend, so I left a message. I tried a different number and sorted through automated systems that ultimately led me to the same end. By this point, I'd made my way in the car to the hotel a few miles away who did a marvelous job taking care of me and even selflessly waived my fees and said they would take it up with Value Place Champaign themselves. I ended up with 4.5 hours of sleep going into my conference and will be a faithful customer of this other hotel if ever I return to Champaign/Urbana. I never received a follow-up phone call from either of the messages I left that Friday night. I will never stay at a Value Place Hotel.
