Royal Bath Hotel

The Royal Bath Hotel and Spa was the first hotel to open in Bournemouth in 1838 and is said to have once been a regular haunt of Oscar Wilde. It’s a grand old building on the seafront with three restaurants, a bar, a leisure centre and a full spa. The rooms have been tastefully renovated and designed to reflect the history of the building. Most have views of the sea or the hotel gardens.

There is a heated indoor pool as well as a splash pool for children. The spa has a steam room, a range of beauty treatments such as pedicures and facials, as well as massage. The fitness suite has a range of cardiovascular machines and free weights. The gym and pool are open to guests and there are additional charges for the spa beauty treatments.

Couples report that the atmosphere of the rooms, the sea views and the in-house restaurants make this a lovely place to organise a couples retreat. The spa facilities as well as the fitness centre are a strong attraction also.

Breakfast and dinner is served in Oscar’s Brasserie, a wonderful historic dining hall that serves a buffet and cooked breakfast as well as an à la carte menu for dinner. The Lounge is open throughout the day and serves lunches as well as snacks and sandwiches. The Cafe Promenade offers great views of the coast and the promenade while serving light meals and hot and cold drinks.

There are two late night bars: Wilde’s Whisky Snug and the Lounge Bar. Both serve a range of real ales and other English and international beers as well as a wide range of wines, spirits and soft drinks.

With honeymoon suites and lavish Victorian ballrooms as well as smaller, more intimate rooms, the Royal Bath Hotel is a popular wedding destination. The gardens and seafront location make it an ideal place to host your wedding and guests receive discounted rates on rooms.

The Royal Bath Hotel and Spa is pet friendly, and you can bring your dog or cat to stay. There is a surcharge for this, which is payable for the first two nights and no further charge if you stay longer than that. You’ll need to bring your own bowls and pet bed.

The hotel is largely accessible to wheelchairs. There are lifts to some floors and there are ramps in areas that are not immediately accessible.
