Pros: The food was amazing and we appreciated the care taken in translating the menu and in the presentation of all the beautiful dishes. We loved having our own two private baths, and felt very comfortable in the futons.
Cons: The check out time was 11, and we wanted to use the Family Bath at 10:00, but someone was in there. Just after they got out, the cleaning staff went in (at 10:30). We went in anyway, but felt we were not supposed to do that. Maybe the cleaning staff should go in after the check out time?

Pros: High level traditional Japanese hotel. The staff was unbelievable, amazing. The facility is beautiful, clean, quiet and very relaxing. The family Onsen and the private onsen are well maintained, nice and clean. Food just perfect, great culinary experience.
Cons: I don’t take it as a critic, but as a warning to western travelers! Being a traditional Japanese hotel (with the beds on the tatami and so on..) the meals are Japanese. The Japanese breakfast is very big (rice, soup, various kinds of fish, pickles) and could be a bit difficult to approach for some Europeans... But, as I said before the food was just perfect.

Pros: Wonderful staff, excellent food, great Onsen very clean.

Cons: There had been a misunderstanding about a special diet requested in advance. However, after clarification the staff was able to fix the issue by the next day and the updated menu was excellent.

7.1 Good
Pros: Dinner and breakfast are very good with great service by staff.
Cons: Facilities are comparatively old, especially the hot spring facility. We arrived on on a 0 degree day, there is no buffer zone from warm to cold. Only one shower tap look in good condition and water pressure at the large bath. My wife just quitted. In fact, there is no other use the facility for the peiod after dinner.

Cons: it seems cats live in this Ryokan. It happened that in my room a cat suddenly came out from the closet when I opened it. It made me frightened. If somebody is allergic to cat's fur or afraid of cats, consider again. But totally, this Ryokan Hosanso is good to stay.
