10.0 Excellent
Pros: The dinner was superb and the breakfast too!! Never expected to find such good chef and food in a resort in the midst of the mountains. Definitely worth the price paid for!!
Cons: Everything was great!!
7.5 Good
Pros: The service staff is awesome. The room is big and comfortable. The amenities in the room is good. The onsen experience at Sukayu was wonderful. The water is excellent, and the changing rooms are well thought-out for the women's section so it doesn't feel awkward as you get to the mixed bath. We went twice in a day, and were fortunate to have a traditional song performance right at the mixed bath. Wonderful experience.
Cons: The dinner was mediocre. Breakfast is close to awful - we had the american as well as the traditional selection. The meals is big part of Japanese hospitality and the expectation, and it was disappointing. We've stayed at different hotels and ryokans and have had better food and experience. The wing at A block where we stayed was far from reception. We went on to stay at other onsen places after this, and it was much more memorable than the stay here, in terms of food, scenery, and onsen experience. Not worth the price paid.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a great hotel. We went in winter, for the Hakkoda Powder, which is amazing, the hotel provides a shuttle service to and from the Ropeway, which is great. There is not a lot to do here, Ski/Board, onsen and sleep. Perfect for us. They have English, Mandarin, and Japanese speakers, and work extremely hard to keep you happy. Things they dont tell you on web sites :- The mountain Road closes at 9:00pm and opens at 7:00 am, the best way to the hotel from Airport is Taxi 8300 JPY (40 min in weather). Hakkoda-San is amazing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Wonderfully located in the Hakkoda mountains with easy drives to Lake Towada, the Oirase River and the Hakkoda Mountain cable car. The staff were excellent and helpful. We were given a free upgrade to our room and it was enormous, but all the rooms are much larger than normal hotel rooms in Japan. The onsen is great as well.
Cons: Due to the location, you are tied to the hotel's restaurants, unless you bring your own cold food. While the food in either of the Japanese or French restaurants is excellent in quality and presentation, it is very expensive. There are no alternative options within easy access.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Free car rides to an attraction outside the hotel. Very personable staff
Cons: Charge us onsen fee when we didn't use it.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was traditionally Japanese and beautiful. We had a spacious room with great amenities and a large window facing Mushu Bay. I have great photos but can not attach at the moment.
Cons: No complaints at all. The dinner you can get is good but kind of expensive for what it is.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: - near the train station - the view is fantastic - the public bath is good and the view is also amazing - staffs are good
Cons: - a little bit pricy
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff hospitality and food was more than we expected. They do have some activities that we missed - trip to see fireflies. shamisen performance was also a good choice for guests. Traditional dinner was incomparable and breakfast was the best selection of Japanese unique menus and western ones.
Cons: Staff cannot communicate much in English and not many things to see around the hotel. The town was quiet and not like the other resort where you could enjoy the scenery or walking through the nature. the room was slightly shabby.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good see view with spring
Cons: Dinner is buffet after 3 kinds Japanese food. It is not similar with general spring hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful onsen! Nice opportunities for walks (hikes) in the surrounding mountains/forests, close to the beach. Pleasant small town. Japanese style rooms are insanely large, for two people it actually was a bit excessive.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: - Room is excellent - Dinner is superb (Love Dinner here so much) - Nice View Room - Very Good facility Onsen - Very Clean and neat - Very Service mind staff - Staff can speak English (Conversation level) - Have Samisen show at night - Very Good location for travel by train (5 minutes walk from station)
Cons: - A little bit expensive (but acceptable) - Outdoor Onsen bathtub is small
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Onsen with spectacular view.
Cons: Not the fault of hotel, just uncomfortable in Japanese style room because of knee injury
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The Onsen is nice. The facility is good though this is a very long-established hotel. Staff were nice and friendly. Breakfast is great with a good variety.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Good location, close to seaside and has a superb view from the public bath area.
Cons: The room is too small, facilities are too old.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The view and sunset was amazing. It is 15 mins from Big Buddha. The staff was very friendly and tried their best with English, which was great and made me feel cared for! The sashimi in Set A was wonderful. The buffet food was ok. There was a quick show that was really nice. There is a convenience store only a couple blocks from hotel. Very relaxing hotel with yukata. I only wished I stayed longer.
Cons: 30 mins from Aomori city but there was a train available. I expected our food to be brought to our room like a ryokan I've stayed with before so that was a little disappointing that it was not even an option, but the food we did have (Set A with the sashimi) was absolutely delicious.

7.9 Good
Pros: Excellent attention from the staff. They were very accommodating.
Cons: Upon entering our room smelled a little bit of tobacco and we had to keep the windows open to air it out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were wonderful and made us feel at home immediately. Especially the two ladies who served us breakfast! Thank you so much for the special breakfast we had on our second morning. The onsen itself was great. We went in the morning and evening to try and make the most of it. We would highly recommend staying here. We hope to visit again in the future.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was so filling and absolutely delicious with a local flavor. The staff were amazingly friendly, especially the kitchen staff who explained the food and talked about local attractions. The onsen was very nice and great to relax in after a long day. It is a bit of a ride from Aomori city proper on a train, but there are also hikes and other things to do in the area!
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff doesn’t speak English but they help themselves with translator so it’s okay. There is private onsen if you have tattoo. Good for sauna (but that’s only in the public bath so no for tattooed people!)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved the Japanese tatami room and futon. They are unbelievably comfy. Free green tea and snack from local ingredient every day. The staff brings Yukata to change daily. Onsen are nice and relaxing.the source of water is one of the drinkable hot springs in Japan. Japanese breakfast that change every day the menu., Free transfer to train station. Super staff, they are not speaking fluently English but the service was top notch. Order food from restaurant near by to the room is also available at the reception.
Cons: None
9.6 Excellent
Pros: First Ryokan that has Yukatas in Westerner-size Nice bath, large breakfast Incredibly large rooms
Cons: Bathroom could be 10cm longer. Your knees literally hit the wall when you are on the toilet Still no sandals above size 41 (EU)

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Richmond Hotel Aomori in Aomori, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Uto Shrine and Aomori Prefectural Digital Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A cheap option to wash your cloths with the coin washers. 200 Yen for washing and drying.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, convenient automated check in and out procedure. Convenience store right next-door.
Cons: Had some confusion going up to the fifth floor to find my front desk.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great staff, clean, comfortable and about the most generic hotel you could get! That’s not a bad thing as it means reliability every time!
Cons: The distance from the Shinkansen station was pretty far, and you have to get a secondary train into the centre of Aomori.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was good with quite a few options (though be warned, western options were limited). Room and facilities were very clean and comfortable. The restaurants beneath the hotel are good and there's a convenience store right by the hotel entrance. Great for a quick snack, light meal, or if you need an ATM. Staff was very friendly (English seems to be limited, but they have multi-language picture cards for those who do not speak Japanese). Appreciated being able to choose from a variety of bath and beauty products at check-in!
Cons: The hotel's elevators require you to insert your room key before selecting what floor you want to go to, but this didn't always work on the first try. It was a bit frustrating at times.
7.5 Good
Pros: Dry clean and great staff. The screws on my glasses came out and the staff at the front desk helped find a way to get my glasses back together. The bakery downstairs is amazing as well.
Cons: It’s a bit far from the train station, but that was clear from the map and we did not mind the walk.

7.1 Good
Pros: The location
Cons: No showering facility before bathing in the Onsen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Possibly Japan's best onsen. New words would be needed to describe this place or we would have to start using words for their real meaning again. I was happy there.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One of the beat ryokan experiences possible. No electricity, no cell service, 3 onsens, beautiful environment on a babbling brook and fresh [locally sourced] meals. I love great lodging, independent of streaming and being tortured by screen time. If your life requires a constant media connection you should find a Double Tree. If you’re comfortable with yourself and sharing a quiet moment with other respectful travelers this is an amazing experience.
Cons: Nothing to not like.
7.0 Good
Pros: Amazing location!! The environment and general atmosphere with the oil lamps were magic. Also, the four onsen were among the best ones we could experiment during our stay in Japan. The staff is doing a great job of taking care of beautiful garden and surrounding.
Cons: The price was still quite high. Dinner was average ok. Dinner room was quite crowded (not so comfortable). The old building has a great charme, but consider you may hear a bit of noise from people upstairs and in the corridor. Small last detail: you have to prepare your futon. This was really no big deal, but as this was the first time we had to do it, and in view of room price, we were a bit surprised. Overall, as the location and onsen are REALLY beautiful, those details did not bother us, but the ratio price/service could be better.
7.5 Good
Pros: Fabulous location in the forest
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location, baths, dinner, room, ambience.
Cons: Japanese breakfast not to my taste. I dont eat fish. But beautufully prepared and locally sourced.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staffs, the view is beautiful, very peaceful place.
Cons: A little far away from Aomori city.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service was impressive, the dinner was beyond the expectation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This Ryokan was very close to the train station....like less than 100 meters walk. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were large and well appointed. The inn was very clean and the onsen bath was nice after a day of travel. The breakfast was also very good.
Cons: The onsen baths were closed after 8:30 AM until 1:00 pm for cleaning, so we could not take a bath on our departure day. This was surprising and unfortunate.
Hotel Jogakura - Aomori - Building
9
8.0 Excellent (255 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Jogakura in Aomori, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Hakkoda and Sukayu Onsen. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: friendly and hospitable staff
Cons: 1. Our duplex is soooooo scantily furnished. Very basic. 2. Big plants along hallway withered, yet they were not attended to. this is a small matter but it reflects badly on the hotel management.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely onsen hotel
Cons: Onsen robes horrid acrylic material. Food was under whelming which was disappointing.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Bathroom very small and very cold
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff were super helpful generally, including about hiking and other outdoor options in the area. The hotel accommodated two vegetarians for meals that were included (breakfast and dinner) and the food was very good. We are very grateful to the chefs! The public baths were outstanding. Overall we had an excellent experience.
Cons: The hotel is an alpine ski/adventure hotel and the decor (carpets) etc. are a little tired; the common areas could use a refresh. The rooms were nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If your booking Jogakura for the winter your there for one reason, the Hakkoda powder and boy did it deliver in that department. During my trip it snowed 1m per day! 2+ Meters (6 ft+) in 3 nights I was there ! Although the hotel is about 3 miles away from the Hakkoda ropeway, If you coordinate with them they will accomodate you they have a few vans that can do pickup if you call them. They also have guided tours of Hakkoda mountain which I think is a must since Hakkoda is not your typical ski resort. (Its a Back country Pow paradise!) Some of the guests are regulars and although their english is not so great they love to share their stories if you talk to them. One of the regular guests has been skiing hakkoda for 30 years and he stays in Jogakura for 3 months over the winter. (the dude is in his 70 to 80s but still skiing) I wish some day I could get some pow legs like that! They got a hotspring to sooth your muscles after a hard day in the pow and the lodging includes breakfast and dinner. (typical Ryokan style)
Cons: Not much to complain about. If you like skiing back country Pow, this is the place for you! I think Hotel Jogakura does a better job at catering to the Pow crowd. (I've stayed in Hakkoda Hotel which is walking distance to the ropeway and I prefer Hotel Jogakura because of their guided tours, the regulars that are there every year, and the nicer Hotspring / Facilities.)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Outdoor public bath with great view, spacious double floor room, high class fine Japanese cuisine
Cons: The heating was a little too warm for us and couldn’t find adjustment, however opening window a bit helped.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: GREAT experience. Good spa good meal
Cons: NO, nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: Excellent public bath. Helpful staff. Very good location for hikers
Cons: Food is rather poor, below Japanese osen standards that I visited before ( 6-8). Rooms are very small for rural Japan. The carpet in the hall needed cleaning. It's at best a 3 star Inn.

Cons: a bit old no view from the room to the city the room is a bit small for more than one person but I came alone so it was fine for me
5.4 Okay
Pros: The hotel is just right in front of the train station and next to the Tourist Information. Within the walking distance to the port where the Ship Museum, Lantern museum, and A Factory are. We have only one day in Amori and luckily we chose this hotel so at least we do have a chance to spend the afternoon to cover a few museums before leaving the town on day after.
