Yuzawa New Otani

1. We booked the japanese room and it gives different experience but yet still practical, it has table and seats that we can use during the day. 2. Onsen ! There is private onsen which comes with additional charge good for family. But also free onsen with specific gender. 3. Shuttle van to and from echigo yuzawa station every 20 mins make it convenient esp if you have luggage. 4. Location ! Lots of restaurant in walking distance, walkable from echigo yuzawa station and also the ropeway of yuzawa kogen (there is shuttle bus from hotel too to go to some ski resorts) 5. Good selections for breakfast at the hotel that the whole family can enjoy

Its located in uphill, so even if its walkable from echigo yuzawa station it would be quite challenging if you carry big luggage

The hotel was very well organized for skiing - ski rental shop is attached to the hotel, has a direct shuttle bus, gave us lots of information about the slopes. The location to the Yuzawa Kogen ski resort was great - a short walk and no need for the shuttle bus! I liked that all the Japanese staff spoke a little English and some had excellent English. The bathroom in the room was a pleasant surprise - a good size for Japan! The onsen was nice. The lockers for storing ski equipment and after check out were very useful. The breakfast was good, but mostly Japanese food and a smattering of international dishes. Dinner was pricey, but excellent. But not quite kid friendly. I wouldn't recommend the dinner for non-Japanese kids because it was hard to find something they would eat even though there was plenty of variety.

The room itself is a little dated (although the bathroom seems renovated). But this is often the case with rooms in Japanese hotels.
