I’ve stayed at APA Hotels a few times in the past, and prefer this chain, as the rooms are always clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Also, the beds are always easy to sleep on, something I don’t find often in hotels. This branch also meets all of these criteria, but is somewhat older, even lacking a keycard system. One positive thing specifically about this branch is that the staff was quite friendly and welcoming, as opposed to larger hotels which can be somewhat impersonal.
The rooms at this hotel and other APA branches, as well as many hotels in Japan, will seem quite small to some Western travelers. This doesn’t bother me personally, but if you need spaciousness, this may not be a good choice.
Hotel does all the basics just fine and is close to a range of decent restaurants, bars etc. It seems to be cheaper than other APA hotels in the area
Of the various APA hotels in Kamata this is the least convenient one in terms of location and it seemed a little older an shabbier. Not bad, but not as good. That might explain why it's a bit cheaper
Central location about 400m from the main train station. Roughly 20 mins from Tokyo so if you're looking to stay out of town then this is the place. Plenty of cafes and retail stores around. Friendly staff always welcomed and fare-welled us and even tried to remember our room numbers and would have our keys ready for us upon our return to the hotel. Laundry facilities are great and not too packed. Staff were always helpful if we needed anything such as new pillows, towels or toilet paper etc. and were very punctual in doing so. They were also helpful when we felt like staying in for the night and helped us with directions to the local pizza shop to order our dinner. They were also very accommodation upon our arrival as we arrived 3 hour prior to check in. They held our bags and checked us in so when we returned at check in time all we needed to do was pick up our room key. They were also very helpful when I booked the wrong departure date and needed an extra night at late notice, they were able to provide the same room we were originally staying in for that extra night and booked on the spot.
Very noisy hotel. Its located right near the Ambulance/Fire Station so at all hours of the night you are hearing sirens which tend to wake you up. The walls are also paper thin so you can hear when other rooms are going to the bathroom, talking or watching TV. Some nights it was a battle of who was the loudest. We arrived with rock hard pillows on the bed however after the second night of no sleep I went down stairs and the staff quickly changed them for softer pillows. The room had poor ventilation so when you had a shower you are advised to keep the bathroom door closed to prevent the smoke alarms going off however, with the two of us having a shower back to back the room became extremely hot - the windows barely open (for safety reason) and there was no english panel on the air con so had no idea how to turn it on and adjust the settings, sometimes we just opened our room door to let some air in.
The hotel is near the railway station and bus terminal so transport is not a problem. Food and shopping is can be done easily.
Lack of information about Kamata before arriving in Tokyo.
