1) The staff: Never saw anyone at the hotel who WASN'T smiling. They went above and beyond to provide relevant and useful advice, arrange any excursions, and improve the stay.
2) The facilities: The common areas were beautiful, the room was spacious and comfortable.
3) The convenient location: The hotel is located across from a couple shops (including a grocery store) and just down the street from the nightlife and tourist attractions- without being so close that you have to hear the bass of the clubs all night (unless you are into that!)

Cons: Location is terrible. Particular if you choose the premium priced volcano view rooms. You will probably not sleep due to traffic. Volcano view - yes - but with a busy road right outside your balcony and a dump right on the other side distorting the view terribly. It needs to be said that we were given a different room without discussion.

Pros: We only stayed for one night after our flight home was delayed. The owner was welcoming and very hospitable. Our room was clean and beautifuly decorated. We were situated only 10 minutes from the bars, shops, and restaurants of the town centre We would have been very happy to have been able to stay longer.

Cons: Zero sound insulation - had very noisy tenants the first days. The toilet flush was not working and was not repaired during our stay. Towels and sheets changed every 4th day. Breakfast not buffet and coffee was rather terrible - otherwise had ok quality. Very steep uphill when leaving can be tiring especially when carrying luggage.

Cons: There is a great big hill / driveway that you have to go up and down to get into the hotel...we hired quads so only had to walk it once or twice but if you have a heavy suitcase can make it difficult. The room was very basic and cramped but ok otherwise

Cons: Far away from the center. Rooms had old furniture and bathroom very small. I sent two emails asking if the hotel offers transfer from the port. I never received an answer. It would be sufficient just to reply they do not offer this service.

Pros: The hotel was in a convenient location. We splurged for one night and we had no regrets. We were greeted by friendly staff who went above and beyond to ensure a warm and comfortable stay at the hotel. The breakfast was delicious, complimentary drink, tea and a private balcony made our wedding anniversary special. The staff at reception offered us a complimentary taxi back to the airport to avoid us the trouble of dragging our suitcases on cobbled streets. Request a higher room with a private balcony if you are spending the $$

Pros: Beautiful historic hotel. Our room was comfortable, and we had our own balcony where we could eat breakfast while admiring the beautiful vista. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We were greeted with rosewater cool towels, as well as a refreshing drink. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a lovely bottle of wine were offered to us to enjoy at our convenience. The dinner we had there was excellent, everything was made in house, fresh, and incorporating local ingredients, and in my opinion comparable to any other 5 star restaurant. Location is great too, just a quick 5 minute walk to city center.

From meeting our ferry to the fresh orange juice on arrival and the dinner on our balcony, no detail was left unturned. The views from the hotel are incredible as is the beauty of the hotel itself. We were treated with such grace and consideration, it was difficult to leave this beautiful place.

Cons: The swimming pool was tiny and by the side of the bar. There was no space for relaxing or sunbathing next to the pool, so it was really unusable. There was a one-person jacuzzi, next to tables and chairs, which made the place cluttered. The rooms varied, so that some superior rooms had a shared balcony and stand-up half shower (shower head at waist height) and others had private balcony with full bathroom. If a private balcony is important, then guests would need to stipulate this in advance. The dinner menu was expensive e.g. up to 30 euros for a main course. There were many feral cats around, which were fed by the hotel. There were cats and cat smells in the balcony and breakfast area, which we found unpleasant and unhygienic.

Cons: The bed was very hard (I am used to pillow top mattress) and the shower was a very small bathtub with a shower head that you had to hold to take a shower. The lighting could have been better inside the bathroom and throughout the room. These were minor concerns as overall I still give this hotel an A+ because of the service and location.

Cons: For a 5 star hotel, we found the linens/towels to be sub par, the bathroom was not in particularly good condition (the sink did not drain), and there was no hot water. While there is a small pool available, what you do not realize is that it is in the lobby area/dining room with no lounge chairs available, making it awkward if not impossible to utilize.
