Lovely pool, beautiful grounds, excellent breakfast, helpful staff. We would rebook.
Not secure parking. Our rental car was damaged by someone trying unsuccessfully to break into it, despite the fact that it was parked directly near the office.
This is a small hotel set back from the busiest part of the town. We stayed in a one room apartment which was big but with a tiny and rather tired shower room. There was a proper kitchen and you could self cater here - there is a supermarket on the other side of the road. This is a modest place and best described as basic. However there was a big bed and the a/c worked well (bedroom only). No real outside space (there is a hammock, but no where to sit). The hotel has a small pool with sun-loungers. The town is busy and noisy but it is relatively quiet here. You have a very short walk to many bars and restaurants. Breakfast was surprisingly good. Staff are pleasant.
We did like the place and enjoyed our stay. However, you must accept that this is a busy young people’s town. If you want to escape the crowds drive 30 minutes to Playa Grande on the other side of the bay - quiet and beautiful with a couple of small hotels. There is an issue with a pulsing noise which might come from the fan in the next room. This needs to be fixed. I wouldn’t in truth stay in this town again. Finally, the hotel is far too expensive for what is on offer.
There are many reasons why this was our favorite hotel of the whole trip (we stayed at multiple places, a few days each - and enjoyed this one the best). The location is excellent - right near the beach, fun bars, great food, music - yet it felt quiet and secluded. The staff was wonderful. We were met with smiles (and a "Welcome" bottle of beer). The breakfast (DO opt in on it!) was amazing. A combination of buffet and cooked to order, with excellent service. One night there was music in the dining room and I ended up dancing with several other women from Toronto - just unexpected fun that seem to be part of the casual yet friendly atmosphere. Finally, I accidentally left behind something precious to me and the Manager was very responsive in looking for it (found, thank goodness) AND offering to mail it back to me. I wish every place I stayed - anytime I travel - was this enjoyable.
I really won't change a thing, honestly.
We had the breakfast once and it was a good value for the price. The grounds are lovely. Nice pool area. The location was close to town. The staff was helpful when there were problems. Staff was also helpful with transportation and restaurant requests. They are currently working on increasing security on the property.
Trouble with the A/C. Difficult to use the safe and door locks. No comfortable seating in room. Very dim lighting and impossible to read in the room. Beds very hard. Only one English TV channel. Very loud late night music from nearby bars
There's a lot to like about Pasatiempo. Even though the town can be loud and busy, the hotel is a quiet and peaceful reprieve. The pool is comfortable, breakfast is very good, and the staff is amazing. We stayed 6 days during the 3rd week of February. Pool/Weather- We went in February and it's very windy in Pasatiempo then--I saw previous reviews complaining about the cleanliness of the pool but I think they do a fine job cleaning it considering there are things getting blown into it constantly. There are monkeys living in the trees on the property which was really entertaining to watch them do their thing. We don't have kids, but there were families playing in the pool continuously and having a great time. Was also never over crowded. Room- We stayed in 3 rooms. I will elaborate on the experience more in the other part of the review. But we loved the second room we stayed in (room 12 I believe). The feel of the room was very, very comfortable. The AC worked great. The bed was very comfortable Staff- Every staff member we worked with was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. Thank you so much for making our stay enjoyable. Location- Location wise it's incredibly easy to get anywhere from the hotel. Loads of food options. Very easy to walk to the beach. And parking our rental care was never an issue. The hotel has live music several days a week, which can draw a crowd and can be fun to join in on. Alot of the other guests we stayed with were families or retired couples (we're a childless couple in our 30s). If you want to go out and enjoy the party/club scene you can, but then you can come back to the hotel and get peace and quiet (so long as the monkies don't drop mangos on your roof lol). Breakfast- Worth having it included and its really nice to wake up and have breakfast when on vacation. Fresh and easy. I would highly recommend staying at Pasatiempo over almost any other location we saw in Tamarindo.
This was our only 'negative' experience but it was handled very well so I believe it's worth sharing: Room 1- We arrived later in the evening to check in, so the night staff/security checked us in (Which was very nice of them) to room number 01. Unfortunately, our first room was not enjoyable. It was incredibly outdated (thread bare towels, stained sheets, rusty lock to close the bathroom that didn't work, rock hard bed, stains/marks all over the wall). It just, wasn't a great feel. Around 9pm the room became a rallying point for a bunch of larger orange ants that we spent the rest of the evening killing bc they climbed the walks/bed/etc. (Could never locate a single entrance point for them they were just coming in from the floor boards). Resolution/Room 2&3- We went to the office in the morning to tell the manager on sight about our plight and they were immediately helpful. We were moved to another room right away. And the second room was SO MUCH BETTER. The vibe of the second room alone was a vast improvement. The bed was so comfortable. Everything in the room seemed well cared for (newish towels, sheets, locks, cleans walls etc). Because the hotel was fully booked, management had to set us up in two rooms over our stay (thank you). At the end of our stay we were put up in a larger room that came with the bigger space/bed and fridge. Honestly, we loved the second room the most. The fridge is a nice thing to have if you really want cold water or to store some food. Point: if there's an issue the staff will definitely help you find a happy resolution.
