Went to Takamatsu during Obon week and this hostel was the only one left with reasonable prices (but still rather expensive). Additonally the 'interesting' design of the dorm room offers more privacy than typical hostel dorms. Rooms are clean and well maintained.
No kitchenette for cooking though they at least provide a fridge and microwave. The separate cubicles are indeed very private, however, air circulation is lacking and unless you leave open your door it'll get very warm (stayed there in August). JR Takamatsu station is quite some distance by foot but still manageable.
It was generally clean, close to the Kawaramachi tram stop and downtown area, friendly and professional staff, individual lockable capsule.
It would be nice to have soap in the toilets (currently only at basin in the hallway), sometimes the main door and the door to the dorms were both unlocked which seems insecure - perhaps emphasise to guests the need to lock the door after themselves when they come in late or leave early.
All in all super happy to have stayed in Kawaramachi Dormitory! Sweet staff made it feel like home instantly and gave great recommendations for the area (also, kawaramachi area is very nice). Facilities were nice, clean and well-designed, and having a ‘booth’ to yourself was such a luxury compared to the usual bunk beds in dormitories/guest houses. Everything went smoothly thanks to simple and easy procedures for everything:)
It’s not a lot of room for both yourself and your baggage, but really it was sufficient and not a problem. The privacy definitely made up for it.
delightful and knowledgeable manager with lots of info to share; very hot showers and everything very clean; terrific restaurant for dinner right across the tiny road
no breakfast on offer in hostel nor in nearby restaurant; the very unique charming and very very clean space could have had slightly higher ceilings in the tiny (but adequately convenient for lighting and cleanliness and heat and coziness) as I am 5'5'' (average height) and could not stand upright in my cubicle.
Close to the station. Interesting interior space and nice staffs. Really good experience to stay here.
