There weren't any things that I could complain about. For a solo traveller definitely a great choice. Owner is very nice, knowledgeable about the city. Breakfast all day long and free snacks were appreciated as well as a nice selection of free hygienic products.
Comfy bed with supportive pillow. Spacious room with plenty of shelves for storage. Friendly, homely atmosphere. Host gave a good welcome with lots of information. Nice selection of free biscuits. Fast Wi-fi - we were able to upload batches of photos at a time very quickly, and watch videos.
Had to pay in cash which is more expensive and a hassle. No safety deposit box or locker to keep your valuables in when staying in a private room. We expected more than just toast for breakfast given the price. Other hostels we’ve stayed at in Taipei had eggs, fruit and cereal too. People were allowed to use the hairdryer outside our room until midnight. This was very annoying and disruptive to sleep. The weekend staff were good at keeping things topped up but not the weekday staff. The toilet paper, bread for breakfast and tea supplies were often low/ ran out. They need to stock more so that you don’t have to worry about not having anything/ have to keep messaging the host for more. Often the three bathrooms were all in use which was annoying when you just needed the toilet (they didn’t have a separate toilet anywhere).
The hostel sits at a low-key location. I bet you can sleep pretty well in every room because the hostel is away from the bustling road nearby. (I didn't hear any engine sound at night from moving vehicles during my three-day stay.) Regardless of its quiet location, the house makes for a convenient stay. It's in the neighborhood of quite a few restaurants that sell Taiwanese foods, street hawkers that cook yummy fare, and stores that offer clothes and bags at bargain prices. It is also close to MRT Taipei Main Station---within walking distance---where you can catch a train to many tourist destinations in Taipei. The host and his helper are super-hospitable and forthcoming. I overhead that at a time the host received a call from a guest sticking around in the neighborhood and having little clue to get to the hostel, he went out and picked her up.
Chunky is so friendly and was really helpful with recommending things to do and where to eat! Location was great (right next to Taipei Main Station) and our stay was extremely pleasant and memorable.
