Le Petit Hureau - Saumur - Building
1
9.4 Excellent (351 reviews)
7.5 Good
Pros: Le Petit Hureau is a quirky and interesting building. The bedroom was large, clean and functional. The private parking behind gates was very good and a good bonus. It was unfortunate that the two nearest eateries were closed on Tuesday so we had to drive into the city centre of Saumur. Which is only a short distance away and there is plenty of parking spaces but you need to drive. Breakfast was served in a small cave type room and was adequate.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 15th century house in great location for Saumur and the local vineyards, restaurants with a family based vineyard next door, local brewery over the road 5mins away. The owners were super helpful with ideas to plan days and showed us around the property nicely.
Cons: Nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, helpful, accomodating hosts. Beautiful guest house, like a mini chateau. Clean, comfortable, very traditional. Super breakfast- in a cave.
Cons: Nothing to not like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owner and excellent all round. Breakfast in the cave was an experience in more ways than one!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The lady was so friendly and also the place. The room was big and nice decorated with rustic and modern combination. We had breakfast in the cellar but they used a heating system inside to be comfortable. The breakfast is good with ham and cheese, milk and cereals, butter and jam.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming B&B with delightful hosts.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent English spoken by Madame, who gave us a warm welcome. Superb location for all Loire visits, Breakfast very good 'served in the old wine cellar', garden room was quirky and cosy with it's own small balcony, the property also benefits from private parking ( but take fly spray if you intend windows being open).
Cons: Access to the bath, fixed shower screen made it awkward to turn taps on and enter or exit the bath, especially for us senior people.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quirky, large room, breakfast and Sophie
Cons: Smell in bathroom
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow, I love this place so much! Sophie is amazing, so helpful and friendly. We loved the history, huge bedroom, big bathroom, and walking up to our place on the spiral staircase each day. And lovely to sit in the pretty, flowered courtyard every evening. Perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast taken in old wine cave on which house is built. Very attractive and unusual. Comfortable room tastefully decorated.
Le Patio & Spa - Saumur - Building
2
9.2 Excellent (732 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in the centre of Saumur, Le Patio & Spa is a guest house set in a renovated, 18th-century coaching inn. It is just 100 metres from Saumur Castle and 1 km from the vineyard. The spa area features a hot tub and an original stone fireplace. All of the rooms have a view of the Loire River or of Saumur Castle. Each room features a desk, a TV and a seating area. A continental breakfast with fresh and local produce is served each morning on the patio. After breakfast, you can request a massage from the professional masseuse, and in the evening you can also enjoy a drink in the on-site wine bar. Free WiFi access and bicycle storage are provided. A87 Highway is a 10-minute drive away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owners were very friendly - the room was extremely comfortable overlooking the river with a Château view from the bathroom. Free parking was immediately opposite. Breakfast was leisurely and lovely quality. The courtyard at the hotel is very special.
Cons: We loved everything about the place. Could fault nothing.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Not pet friendly even though they say they are. They do not wash/clean bedding after dogs stay. This came to light when they claimed one of our dogs was on the bed even though they spent the whole time in an enclosed dog bed from which they could not escape. We were asked to leave without any notice. Obviously not experienced or sympathetic hosts. Fortunately the hotel next door could not only accommodate us at last minute but also offered a room with a double bed for us and an additional single bed for the dogs. Soooo dog friendly. So don’t stay at Le Patio stay at Hotel Anne d’Anjou. It’s also cheaper and has far greater facilities including complimentary tea, coffee and water in the rooms, swimming pool and jacuzzi. No such facilities at Le Patio. Disgraceful place. Should be shut down.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The historical setting, décor, atmosphere and views
Cons: Bath not clean enough, no cleaning materials Having booked a double bed disappointed that two single beds made up separately as single beds Although we like low lighting in some places it was too dim and lighting levels need to be adjustable
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very friendly and the location excellent.
Cons: Lack of tea and coffee facilities in room, poor choice for breakfast, towels smelt fausty.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location, free parking on street, interesting building with inner courtyard
Cons: Late check-in at 5pm. This would have been ok if we could have accessed the building and had a drink and sit-down until check-in time, but the whole building was closed until 5pm which we considered quite inconvenient. Our room was on the third floor and only accessible by an old-fashioned staircase, so transporting luggage there wasn't very easy
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome, beautiful courtyard and a very luxurious en-suite bedroom with loads of room to relax .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and location were excellent, as was the parrot!
Cons: Two things about our room. The floors are extremely noisy which means you cannot go to the toilet during the might without waking your partner. Having only a bath and no shower is not good as we only take showers.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Warmly greeted by the host. Excellent size rooms beautifully furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious and the location was incredible. It was a beautiful spot in Saumur with wonderful and incredibly friendly staff. The start of the trip would not have been nearly as enjoyable without this wonderful stop.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is some of the best in town. The B&B itself is very atmospheric, it is a converted 200-years-old post office, full of authentic original details. It is a short walk (about 3min) to the center of the town, and is right below the Chateau de Saumur. The neighborhood is very quiet, we slept with our windows open and there wasn't a sound to disturb us. The owners couldn't be more welcoming! They did everything to make our stay exceptional, and they succeeded! The breakfasts were very fresh continental breakfasts, with great pastry, coffee, etc. Everything (toiletries, towels, etc) were refreshed daily. The owners assisted us with local advice, and other questions we had. It is a short and convenient drive to local attractions in town such as the Tank Museum, vineries, etc. Parking is on the street, is plentiful, and safe.

Cons: The cathedral chimes but that’s the price you pay for the location!!

Alcyon - Saumur - Building
4
9.2 Excellent (267 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Saumur, Alcyon is within a 15-minute drive of Chateau de Saumur and Chateau de Montsoreau. Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Madame was very helpful and also provided secure parking for my motorbike. Good breakfast and a lot of eating and drinking places within walking distance. Very clean, very comfortable.
Cons: Nothing really, it was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Super hotel with typical French charm. Manageress was extremely helpful. Can have varying sizes of breakfast from 3€ to 9€. Highly recommended.
Cons: Great for the railway station only 3-4 minute walk. A little far from the main Town Centre but some nice restaurants on the way.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. the secure parking was very welcome. It's a compound at the back of the hotel with a big gate opened from outside by a security code, we felt happy leaving most of our luggage in the car overnight rather than having to bring it all up to the room; 5 euros for our overnight stay and we could leave the car there until we returned from wandering around Saumur at lunchtime on our departure day. There wouldn't be enough space for all their guests to park, so I'd recommend booking in advance. The room and en-suite were clean and had all you needed for a comfortable night, including a kettle and complimentaries for tea/coffee.
Cons: The location is good as you are on the edge of the two bridges you need to cross to get to central Saumur, 10 - 15 minutes walk, although if it was raining it wouldn't be much fun as there is no cover. But it is right on the main road near a junction and also has a main railway running close by. We were in a corner room, which meant windows on two sides, so nice and light but extra noise. They have supplementary glazing which will cut out most of the noise as long as you're happy sleeping with the windows closed. We're not, generally, so tried sleeping with them open but gave up halfway through the night as the noise from freight trains and traffic was just too obtrusive. I would imagine that a room at the back of the hotel would be much quieter.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and very comfortable. Location was great for the train station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice welcome, secure parking, comfortable clean room, pleasant breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was very kind and knowledgable and spoke good English.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome. Clean and excellent breakfast.
Cons: Slightly more expensive than other hotels but may be due to location.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was very good ,location was very good for rail travelers but its a 25 min walk into the old town
Cons: no aircon
10.0 Excellent
Pros: clean and comfortable, friendly helpful staff, good wifi
Cons: nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome was wonderful, the accommodation was really special and the breakfast was gorgeous - the madeleines were a firm favourite. We brought bread for our youngest who is coeliac and I forgot to mention it when booking. Odile couldn’t have been nicer, ensuring that our youngest had enough to eat at breakfast and making sure we were booked into a local restaurant that catered for her (another wonderful experience!). The trip was in a word - perfect, Thanks. We’ll be back!
Cons: Nothing, all good.

La Jarillais - Saumur - Building
6
9.4 Excellent (61 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Saumur, La Jarillais Chambre d'hôtes is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Maison de Vin and Bouvet Ladubay. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, microwave in a common area, and refrigerator in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful cottage in a lovely rural area. The decor was very elegant, good shower and very good beds.
Cons: Don't bring your dog. There are many animals walking loose at La Jarillais, chickens (with small chicks), other dogs, cats that walk in and out etc. We had to keep our (well bahaved) dog on a leash all the time. There was no toilet paper (we had to buy at a Carrefour) and we had to rent linnens and towles. We arrived late after a long journey and it would have been nice if our beds had been made. When we wanted to ask our hosts something they were never available or near. Payment was confusing and they didn't know if they had received the pre-payment from Booking or not. All in all, a lovely place but don't expect any hospitality or warmth.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Relaxing setting. Hosts were very helpful and they spoke good English.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very kind and conscientious hosts. They went out of their way to make certain I was comfortable and accommodated. This property is just a 12 minute drive from town (better if you have a car, taxi’s do not get excited to drive out of town), so it is very calm and quiet. These are “Gites” not separate houses, but you do have your own full kitchen/living-room/bathroom/bedroom and in some cases a washer-dryer and back patio. It’s well equipped, but bring your own sheets and towels otherwise you pay a small fee to use theirs (basically they are renting you a living space). Breakfast is also additional fee, and it is worth it to be able to walk into the main house and enjoy hot coffee, juice and an array of snacks. The owners are very sweet and rhymes have the cutest pooch -whom I wanted to take home with me. Highly recommend this property. I will be back.
Cons: Nothing comes to mind. Though I do feel that sheets and towels should be part of the rental, I wasn’t upset by their policy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet relaxing location. Lovely huge grounds and clean pool. Hosts were very friendly but left you to yourselves u less you wanted something then more than happy to help.
Cons: There was no where you could walk to in the evening for a meal or drinks, but we were happy drinking outside our gite on the terrace.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: What a great location, just outside Saumur (5 min) but totally in the countryside. Lovely owners, extremely kind and willing to help with everything. Our kids loved all the animals present (dogs, cat, chickens, horses). The garden is lovely with seats everywhere and the Swimmingpool was perfect. The Gite is rustic French with everything you need. Nothing fancy but compared to the price we thought it was a bargain. Franc and Elizabeth, many thanks for the great stay. We would highly recommend it and will come back when possible!
Cons: In the gite an extra couch inside or outside would be nice
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable gite, out in lovely peaceful countryside close to Saumur.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners were particularly friendly despite some mishaps and also spoke English well although they didn't think so.
Cons: No improvements suggested
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very helpful and accomodating. We couldn't have done without them, as our car broke down and they helped interpret what the garage was saying to us.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Best accommodation we stayed at during our trip- extremely nice and helpful owners, use of nice sized (shared) pool, private decked area/garden, rest of the grounds & gardens immaculate.
Cons: This is nitpicking really, but the seating in the living room- could've done with a couple of comfy chairs and/or a sofa!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Owners incredibly kind and helpful. Lovely breakfast. Spacious room. Fridge was really useful.

Pros: The beds were so comfy that we accidentally skipped breakfast! But just around the corner was a bakery with delicious treats, so it totally wasn't an issue. The front desk staff was so kind and despite the language barrier, did their best to help. Thanks for a great stay!

Hôtel du Parc - Saumur - Building

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hôtel du Parc in Saumur, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Chateau de Saumur and Chateau de Montsoreau. Featured amenities include express check-in and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Clean, good location
Cons: Poor breakfast. Ran out of bacon and eggs and not replaced for guests
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Love this hotel and have stayed many times
Cons: Nothing, we always sleep really well here
7.5 Good
Pros: The family room met expectations. We liked that there was a slightly separate sleeping place for children provided by mezzanine
Cons: Overall, dining can be improved. Dinner is quite expensive. The buffet breakfast is a challenge with children. The plates are tiny (not even large enough for the pancakes they serve) and so of you are aiming to feed children as well as yourself, you’ll spend most time on your feet gathering food than actually sitting down and enjoying it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, good sized room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy bed and quiet!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Perfect stopover hotel: quiet, comfortable, good food. Easy to find on outskirts of Saumur, with secure parking.
7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel was very good. It was modern, clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful . The restaurant was excellent wit,h good and original dishes well served. The only downside was that the hotel is on the edge of town, although.. I had been led to believe it was central. A car was needed to go into town. This was to some extent compensated by the fact that the hotel has good parking.
Cons: One small problem. When we arrived there was a notice on the board saying the restaurant was closed Saturday and Sunday lunchtime, so we were surprised that when we wanted to eat there on Sunday evening it was closed. They had forgotten to change th notice.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean, friendly staff and good breakfast
8.8 Excellent
Cons: The only two things that prevent me staying again. It is a little too far to walk into town, and the Taxis are expensive. And it is the first hotel where I have had to pay for the phone call for the Taxi, this should be covered by the Taxi company. My wife and I will choose somewhere else next year
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was nice and clean we had a meal in the restaurant it was lovely the food
Cons: Nothing

Pros: I know the area pretty well but this was the first time I havve stayed here. I have been travelling through France on my way to Spain and use Saumur as ny first night stop Ishall certainly use it again. Breakfast was usual Continental, how I miss ny egg and bacon!!!! Hotel next to river.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent, fruit salad, cereal, boil your own eggs, fresh bread (baguettes and croissants to ) preserves etc. Location close to restaurants. Easy to get to Saumur castle and Richard the Lionheart's burial place at Royal Abbey at Fontevraud. Footpaths & cycle track on South side of Loire at Montsoreau. Car boot sale along street outside hotel on second day worth a look round. Renewed toiletries & towels each day and en suite was excellent.
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find location on the north side of the island. Food shopping and restaurants immediately adjacent to the hotel, and a short (under 10 minute) walk south into the historic city centre. Secure parking on-site, but if you don't want to use that, there is parking in the surrounding streets and the area feels very safe. Hotel facilities are good and the staff friendly and helpful, particularly when my French failed and they immediately switched to English. Would certainly stay there again if in Saumur.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Pleasant hotel overlooking a part of the Loire on the island in the middle of the river. A peaceful location outside the town centre. We traveled by train, and it was a short walk to the station. The historic town is across the river on the other side. Comfortable room and good breakfast service. Good value for money overall. No restaurant at the hotel, and few eating opportunities in the immediate vicinity. But there are many restaurants and cafes in the town across the river.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything....clean;comfortable;good size room; good location; good value; parking if required although plenty of parking around hotel.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location with everything you needed.
Cons: The breakfast was a little steep at £12 a day for a small continental breakfast.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room.
Cons: Could have done with biscuit with the tea and more milk in our room. Luckily not too many people at breakfast or queuing for coffee and other items could have been a pain.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is only 200 yards from the centre of Saumur giving easy walking access to restaurants and cafes, and yet being on the other side of the river is very quiet at night. The hotel also has a very secure, locked, car park, but make sure you book it in advance as there are limited spaces.
6.3 Good
Pros: The hotel was fairly close to the town and chateau. The view from the bedroom was good looking across the river.
Cons: It was very hot, no air conditioning so we had the window open and the roads were very noisy most of the night. There was not enough light to read in the bedroom which for us was a big no no ! Also breakfast was not included in the price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful and friendly staff. Great position, just a short walk over the bridge and into the heart of the town (less than ten minutes). Plenty of parking around. Great for stop-over with some lovely sites in town.
Cons: Light switches in room took a little getting used to.

Pros: A lovely stay in a beautiful area and a very peaceful location. We were even invited to participate in a superb home cooked dinner with wine and canapes on the lawn in front of the property. A delightful couple of owners who couldn't do enough for us. Our room was absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing whatsoever.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful grounds, incredibly friendly and accommodating host, and super-clean and lovely rooms. We were only passing through and stayed for only one night, but the owner treated us as if we were staying for a week. And we wished we were, because the wonderful rooms and beautiful grounds could definitely sustain a longer visit. We hope to return for a longer stay next year... ps to cyclists: a very easy and accommodating place for cyclists.

7.5 Good
Cons: Room toilet/bathroom had that drain smell! Gluten free options were not that great.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A superb arrangement of hotel rooms and separate bungalows within the grounds . Everything you could want was provided in the bungalows even outside table and chairs in your own separate little area. Spotlessly clean everywhere. The actual hotel reception rooms were welcoming and some had fantastic views over the Chateau of Saumur. We will definately return. You definately need transport , too far from the town to walk if you are old or unfit. Not a problem plenty of parking in the town.
Cons: The food ! Very expensive for very little .ie a starter of langoustines had three tiny prawns , very mushy , with garnish 18euros ! Illusion bowls are used so that the serving looks bigger whereas most are tiny . The service . Two hours for two simple courses. 35 Minutes waiting for coffee , having to ask three times and finally walking into the kitchen to ask yet again . One waitress was rather surly and obviously didnt enjoy her job. Asked her to light our candle ….never done .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great view of Saumur from balcony.
Cons: Restaurant food was not that good
7.5 Good
Pros: This place is quite a little gem and we shall make a point of returning for a longer stay next time we are in the area.
Cons: Breakfast was OK but it would benefit with a wider choice of bread, meat and cheese.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice resort in a remote relaxing location. Excellent breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. Room 14 is in the main building, a double, has a separate loo & shower room, and a handy low fenced patio area with table and chairs, perfect for the dog too. A field path lies behind the property for good walks am and pm. The pool is warm and a good size. There was live guitar music in the evening, in the restaurant. The food was nice. Plentiful parking. Stayed one night in a double room with the dog. The view across to the Château is marvellous.
Cons: You will need to drive 5 minutes to alternative food or shopping.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel over looking Saumur. Bar, Restaurant and swimming pool area were excellent. We eat at the restaurant and the food was very good. We stayed in one of the apartment blocks separate from the Hotel which was fine for our 2 day stop over. 10 minute walk to Akerman's caves for some good wine tasting and a further 20 minutes into town. Staff were really friendly.
7.5 Good
Pros: location, accomodation, food
Cons: food was pretty good but slightly disappointing considering the price
9.0 Excellent
Pros: found this hotel by accident, what a find - lovely situation, beautiful views, excellent food, friendly staff!
Cons: wanting to have a drink in the bar before or after dinner - always had to go and find someone to serve us, not always someone available
6.7 Good
Pros: The bed was very clean and comfortable. The staff were mainly very helpful - although despite booking a table in the restaurant for 7.30 we sat without a drink and without our order being taken for 30 minutes. The decoration is eclectic to the point of quirkiness- you might love it or hate it - 1960’s union jacks and Stars and Stripes mixed with pictures of Hollywood icons. The food was delicious, both dinner and breakfast. Parking is great
Cons: The long wait for a drink in the restaurant. The room looked a bit tired and I was dubious about the cleanliness of the rugs on the floor - but I always am!

8.0 Excellent

Cons: No evening restaurant
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is a beautiful old building on the bank of the Loire Island of Saumur. The variety of restaurants close by was exceptional. there was a free hotel car park and whilst the hotel had a lot of steps at the entrance there is a lift down to ground level. A very pleasant experience and all due to the attention of the staff. Breakfast was in the top ranks for this trip.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location was excellent short walk over the bridge to the town. With a lovely view over the river
Cons: Tea and coffee etc in room was very poor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best location and spectacular City views and a great breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view to The chateau and town. Short walk to restaurants. Good breakfast and very comfortable bed.
Cons: I do not understand why hotels of this category use the wall hairdryers. Not really possible to dry and style woman’s hair with.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location is brilliant, fantastic views across the river to Saumur, an easy walk to the chateau and town. Good parking. Quiet location, nice walk to the end of the island along the river. Much better croissants at breakfast than some other Mercures in France.
Cons: Originally given room 345, a supposedly architect designed special room for wheelchair users, which we are lucky enough not to be. However, the design of the room is appalling even for able-bodied people. Unlike other rooms that have a wardrobe with shelves and hanging space, the only clothes storage is a couple of small wheeled racks in a corner, containing a couple of plastic bins in the base which were full of bedding stuff. We lived out of suitcases on the floor, which wouldn't make access possible if you had a wheelchair. The wet-room shower room is a design abomination - large, bare walls with not one hook or shelf for clothes or toiletries etc; the two tight towel rails are in the opposite corner from the shower; with no screen the shower splashes over about 2/3 of the floor including around the loo. Old clothes, new clothes, towels etc have to go on the floor during showering. There is no easy way of drying the floor once wet, and nowhere to dry a wet bath mat. In the bedroom, the noisy aircon blasts cold air straight at your head when in bed. Unlike most hotels these days (such as the Mercure in Angouleme), the aircon isn't a quiet device. We asked to change for our second night and were given a much more practical and comfortable standard room on the second floor, but no reduction for the first night. The hotel seems to know of the deficiencies of the wheelchair room but so far hasn't fixed it. We suggested they should invite their architect and partner to stay in it for a few days. The staff were friendly and obliging but the management need to get a grip. Breakfast was adequate but oddly laid out (eg cereals split between two different parts of the room rather than in one place). We do wish they would use proper eggs rather than powdered ones for scrambled eggs!

Pros: Brilliant location very close to the old town, but our room was at the back of the hotel so it was still quiet. Room was very nice, clean and well decorated and the shower room very good. Tea & coffee making facility great although we had to go down and ask for a second paper cup. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, very welcoming.
Cons: Struggled a bit with stairs up to our 2nd floor room, there being no lift. For privacy purposes, would have preferred a proper door to the bathroom rather than the opaque-glass sliding door.
